About Last Summer
Page 22
He raised a dark eyebrow. “I don’t know. That might be exactly the way to do it.”
I shook my head, fighting a smile. He wasn’t serious, was he? “Sounds messy.”
“But in a good way, right?”
“I might be willing to try it,” I said, nudging him with my shoulder.
Noah laughed. “Always good to try new things.”
New things. My heart grew even warmer at the sound of those words. Because deciding to date Noah was a new thing. Different from anything I’d done before. Part of me was still afraid I’d screw it up, but I was determined to work on it. To work for it.
I stopped and took his hands in mine. “Because that’s what this is, right?”
A puzzled smile crossed his lips. “Huh?”
“What we’re doing is something new,” I whispered. “It’s not about last summer anymore. It’s about now. About us making something new.”
“Yeah, new,” he whispered. He leaned close, his eyes filled with such hope that I had to wrap my arms around him. He kissed the top of my head. “Um, pie?” he asked, a hint of laughter in his voice.
I smiled up at him, loving the teasing look in his bright blue eyes. “Pie can wait.” And then I kissed him.
