Allegiance (The Chicago Defiance MC Series Book 8)

by K E Osborn

No matter what, this club thrives on love.

The love of the brotherhood, the love of family, the love for each other.

The room breaks into cheering as two women walk in, and my eyes shoot out of my head when I see it’s the actresses, Neve De Villa and Cindi Wray. Ace and Midnight walk over to them and take each one into an embrace. I furrow my brows. When I heard Ace and Midnight were involved with actresses, I had no idea they meant damn superstars. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised anymore.

This club is constantly astounding me.

Brothers drink, chat, and laugh. Brothers from Chicago, brothers from Houston. The Notorious Knights. Freaking Mafiosos and hell even a couple of cops, let alone the Chinese Triads who have turned up obviously when we were in the Chapel.

  The clubhouse is overflowing.

A celebration of life, love, brotherhood, and loyalty.

And I for one couldn’t be happier that I am a part of it.

Chicago Defiance isn’t just one biker club.

  It’s everyone here.

In one way, shape, or form, every single person in the clubroom is a part of this club. They’ve been here through thick, through thin, through the blood, sweat, and tears. Through the good, through the bad.

I might be only just entering the club, but I have seen a lot.

All of us here are Defiance.

I know because I am Defiance.

  VIPER

  Twenty-Five Years Later

I slam my gavel hard on the table at the end of church. The loud thump resounding through the room as I take in my men. My VP, Vex, who also happens to be my cousin, sits to my left. My baby brother and my Sergeant At Arms, Socket, to my right. Around the table of the Chicago Defiance MC it’s a real family affair. My other cousin, Highway, sits at the end opposite of me. While the other men of my club, the family, not by blood, but the men I have grown up with all my life surround the table, Kamikaze, and the younger members, Vegas and Atomic. The thing about us all is we grew up here. Every single one of us. We’re all sons of elders. Hell, Socket and I have the privilege of having our father as the ex-president.

Rylan ‘Torque’ O’Shea—his name is famous in the streets of Chicago.

Synonymous with winning fights against the Yakuza, coming up against an ex-president, turning the leader of the Andretti Mafia into an ally, bringing down underworld organizations.

Yeah, Rylan ‘Torque’ O’Shea is like a myth, a fucking legend in these parts. So, it’s fucking tough to be in my position—the president of this club—while trying to live up to his image and all the good he did for the Chicago underworld. But I’m trying.

We’re all trying, and with my dad, the fucking legend himself here in the background as our ‘Wise One,’ he’s always telling my brothers what to do. He told me that he had the best ‘Wise One’ when he was trying to find his feet as president. Surge, though now old, he’s frail, and his body isn’t working for him like it once was.

As a family, the O’Shea’s go to see him as much as we can in the retirement village he’s in, but we can all read the writing on the wall. He’s not long for this world. Grammy takes as best care of him as she can, but honestly, she’s not young either.

My brothers all stand from the table getting ready to walk out. My attention being brought back into the here and now, I glance up seeing my blood brother, Socket, loitering in the chapel and Atomic sitting at his tech station. I exhale knowing what they want. So, I stand and walk over to them. “Look, I know what you’re thinking, but it can’t be a serious threat, can it?” I ask, my eyes focused in on Atomic.

He grits his teeth while typing something into the computer system. His father, Ace, still tries to come in and takeover often. I guess you never stop being a tech guy for the club. “I don’t know if there is any other way to see it, pres. Unless someone’s sending out false data, it’s pretty conclusive.”

I shake my head in aggravation. “I don’t want this to be true. We’ve had peace in the streets of Chicago for years. My father and the brothers around him brokered that peace, now because of one stupid misunderstanding that could all be blowing up in our damn faces?”

Socket grips my shoulder. “Look, I know you haven’t been wearing that president’s patch for a long time, but shit, brother, if you need advice, you know who to turn to. Dad knows these guys better than anyone. He’ll know what to do. There’s no shame in trying to nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand.”

I flare my nostrils. “Yeah… but fuck! Last thing I want is to go to Dad with this, but I see no other option.” I swipe my hand through my hair. “He’s gonna fucking kill us,” I murmur the last part.

Socket grimaces. “Want me to come with? You know, for back up?”

“Nah… I’m the president. I have to man up to my club’s mistakes.”

I turn, heading out of the chapel. Music assaults my ears as I see Jada and Mish serving behind the bar, their tits practically hanging out of their tops. The two new prospects, Kaden and Ash, are drinking, their eyes firmly set on the club girls’ cleavages, and I roll my eyes as I walk past them. “Go! Now! Clean the damn bikes, prospects.”

They both turn and drop their beers to the bar with shock. “Yes, pres,” they blurt out in unison and scurry off. I may not have been president for long, but being the third generation of presidents gives you mad respect.

I just hope I haven’t screwed it up in my first month of being in the damn chair.

My eyes continue to search the clubroom. It’s a mismatch of the old and new. The next generation is climbing the ranks while the older generation is all slowly taking a back seat.

My parents have entered their early sixties.

Dad could have stayed on the throne. There was no reason for him to hand it down to me. He’s not sick. He said he wanted to spend time with Mom and maybe travel. He spent his years behind the desk, and he wanted to pass the gavel on. That way he could be here to guide me—me and Socket. When he did that, my Uncle Trax decided to do the same, and so his son, my cousin, Rix, or Vex as he’s known, was promoted to VP.

Vex is just like his father—immature in his actions, irrational in his ways. They say that deviance is an absence of conformity to the normal, and Vex is just like that. His moods are up and down, and all over the place. He’s a loose cannon.

It’s crazy how fucking affectionate all the older couples are. It’s kind of sickening to be honest. All these old folks getting it on all the time. I shake my head from the over-the-top imagery as I spot Medic and his Old Lady, Lotus, sitting while laughing over something. They’re one of the most loved-up couples as Lotus sits on Medic’s lap. Her tiny frame almost being completely enveloped by his.

It’s funny actually. The story goes that before Medic claimed her, her nickname was Tiny, and she was going to be claimed by another brother, but he died in a war fighting for Elle.

Elle and Lift are going really strong, and their daughter, Charlie, is a big part of this club. In fact, our brother, Vegas, who’s Vibe and Rowdy’s son, kind of has a thing for her. Though, he wouldn’t tell anyone about it even though it’s plain to see.

Mom and Dad are sitting in the corner, all cozied up, and I chuckle watching them. It’s crazy even at their age at how loved-up they still are.

I walk over to my parents, their heads turn up to glance at me, and I grit my teeth. “Hey, pres.” Dad chuckles. “You don’t have any clue how fucking proud I am to say that to you, Beau.”

I scowl. “Dad, call me, Viper. You know that.”

Mom smiles. “He’s just letting you know that you’ve come a long way, is all.”

I tense. I know what she’s talking about. “Mom, I don’t want to talk about that.”

Dad sits forward. “Pres, your time in the army taught you how to be strong. You shouldn’t disregard it so easily.”

I cock my head. “Yeah, well, the army is history now. I have bigger fish to fry at the moment. That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you abou
t.” I grab a seat opposite them and drag it out, plonking my ass down.

Dad shrugs. “You can always talk to me, kid. You know that.”

I let out a groan. “I don’t think you’re gonna wanna hear this.”

Dad sits taller. “What did you do?”

Rubbing my face, I let out a huff. “Vex did something…” I grimace, “… stupid.”

Mom snorts out a laugh. “Still taking after his father, I see.”

Dad tries to hide his smile, but I continue, “It’s to do with Nio.”

Dad’s face falls, his face turning red with obvious anger. “Nio isn’t like his mother, Viper. I don’t have control over the Andrettis now like I used to. What. The. Fuck. Has. Vex. Done?”

I rub the back of my neck to ease the tension. It doesn’t help. “You know how Nio was kind of seeing that girl, Isabella?” Dad nods. I exhale. “Vex is in love with her. Apparently, they’ve been seeing each other behind Nio’s back and… he’s fuming.”

Dad slumps with a groan. “So, you’re telling me that after all this damn time, a new reign comes over the Defiance MC, and now the Andrettis and us are going to go back to war… over a fucking female?”

I roll my shoulders. “I don’t want it to come to that, Dad. That’s why I’m coming to you.”

Dad glances at Mom, the worried expression telling me everything. “Nio’s a loose cannon. He’s ruthless. Conniving. He lost his father and had no one to guide him.” Dad sighs. “I don’t know if I speak with Bianca that we can fix this, kid.”

I nod, feeling a sense of courage filling my chest.

  I can do this.

  I can find a way.

I’m the motherfucking president of the Chicago Defiance MC.

We’ve been at war the Andrettis.

We’ve been at peace with the Andrettis.

There’s no way we can’t make it through this again.

Through the decades this club has fought battles.

  In love.

  In war.

  In life.

  In death.

And we’ve come out swinging after all of them.

I might be new at the head of this club, but it doesn’t mean I won’t stand up. It doesn’t mean I don’t know this club inside and out.

This club—this club is a tightknit unit.

We’re family, and we work well together.

  We bond together.

Anything that happens to any of us happens to all of us.

And you know what, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  I love this club.

  I love the members.

  I love my brothers.

  I love my family.

We’ve been through a hell of a lot, and we’ve come out the other end in one solid piece.

And we’ll get through anything and everything that this life, and then next, throws at us.

Am I ready for a fight? Hell, yes.

Whether it be with the Andrettis or anyone else.

A new war might be on the horizon, but this club can get through any shit that’s thrown our way.

I’m ready to stand up as president of the next generation.

  Why?

  Because we are Defiance!

Pay with your body, or pay with your blood.

With a little sister to protect, I did what I had to.

  REPO

  I was born a protector.

Whatever it took, I did it.

My family, my brothers and the club’s name—I made sure that anyone who crossed us, or at least anyone who tried, learned quickly why they shouldn’t.

Seeing her sitting at the bar, I was drawn to her. Her scars, her bruises, and the light around her.

Without knowing me, she instantly had my back.

So it was only fair I had hers.

She walked in with the enemy.

But there was no way in hell I was letting her walk out with them.
