Khelya stood by with a determined expression. Simmad’s hands shook. Matil looked down at her own hands, one of which held Dyndal’s pendant. She went over to Simmad and passed him the pendant. His hands abruptly stopped shaking as he noticed her and then gazed at the pendant.

“Can you hold this while we get ready?” she said.

“I…yes, Miss Matil,” he said, slightly bewildered. Like she had earlier, he gripped it in both hands. “Thank you.”

Uro addressed them quietly. “None of our alva know where Dyndal is now. I’ve explained that he will return when the time is right.”

“And—” Khelya self-consciously cut herself off.

Uro looked up at her. “Speak.”

“You’ll, uh, make sure everyone in Fainfal knows the truth, right?” A faint smile lit her face. “That the Elders ain’t dead?”

He shared her smile. “The tidings have already taken wing.”

  About the Author

Ellias Quinn is an American storyteller. In her childhood amidst the rain and the woods, she stumbled into Eventyr’s border – bruising her head in the process – and through the years has had the great fortune to learn from the bantam residents about its history and cultures. Now, she is humbled by the privilege of relating certain great events from Eventyr’s past for the benefit of humankind.

Ellias’s favorite time of year are the days just out of Vana, when the sun shines warmly through the cold air, as Thrual creeps in and paints the leaves. On those days she enjoys sitting down with her family to a meal of thick squirrel steaks broiled in the Obrigi tradition.
