Roping A Cowboy (Blazing Eagle Ranch Book 2)

“Son of a bitch,” Carson cursed, laughing.
Wade held his hands up in the air with the football tight in his grasp. He jogged to their makeshift end zone.
“Touchdown,” he announced.
They were playing a friendly game of touch football with Tyler, and just having some fun.
Maddy and Joy sat on the back porch watching them.
“You’re getting slow, old man,” Wade teased Parker.
“It’s the knee.” Parker’s limp was more exaggerated.
Wade chuckled, walking back to his nephew. “I’m calling bullshit. Hell of a throw.”
He held up his hand, and Tyler jumped up, returning the high five.
It had been a month since Wade had proposed to Joy. She had moved in that night, and they hadn’t looked back. They were in no rush to start planning the wedding, since Parker and Maddy were about to jump the broom.
“Are you strong men ready for lunch?” Maddy called out.
She and Joy came down the stairs.
“I’m starving, Mom,” Tyler said.
“When aren’t you starving, little boy?” Maddy snorted.
Wade followed behind Tyler to where Maddy and Joy were headed.
Wade had eyes only for Joy. Her hips swung slowly as she strolled alongside Maddy.
He couldn’t push aside the memories of that morning when she’d climaxed while riding him. The pure look of ecstasy on her face was something he couldn’t wait to see again.
Her moving in with him was the best thing. They were learning more about each other, and Wade didn’t think he could fall any more in love with her.
Since the night of the truce, their fathers had carried out the deal that had been struck.
The land Jonah offered had officially switched hands, and was now Whitaker property.
Wade was impressed with how much his father had changed. He was stronger, and no longer walked with the cane.
Even Joy’s parents were starting to accept their relationship. Lexi had already been to their house a few times, helping Joy decide on some changes she wanted to make.
It was now their home.
Junior hadn’t really come around, and Wade frankly didn’t care if he did or not.
As long as Joy was happy, that was all that mattered.
Now, if Junior was a reason for her tears, then Wade would have to have another chat with her brother.
“What do we have here?” Wade murmured.
“Um, y’all need to go wash your hands,” Joy announced, pointing over to the patio’s sink.
Wade was impressed by his brother’s patio. He had renovated it to include an outdoor kitchen, along with a large grill, sink, and prep area. A fridge was located under the counters. It was giving him some ideas of what they could do with their home.
“Do we have to?” Tyler asked, looking at his hands. “Mine look clean.”
“Tyler Brooks!” Maddy stomped her feet. Her small belly was more pronounced, and Wade couldn’t wait to meet his future niece, or nephew.
“Come on, little man.” Carson slapped Tyler on his shoulder and guided him over to the sink. “There are some things you just don’t argue with women. Keep that in mind.”
Wade laughed. He had to agree.
“Picked a date yet?” Parker asked, coming to stand next to him, while Carson and Tyler went first at the sink.
“Not yet. There’s no rush.” Wade grinned. He was still in awe that Joy had agreed to marry him. Each morning, he just stared at her as she slept.
There was something about seeing his ring on her finger he couldn’t even begin to explain.
Parker chuckled. “I hear you.”
“Maybe next summer.”
He glanced over and watched Maddy and Joy work together to put the food out on the table. Carson and Tyler took their seats, and his gaze landed on Maddy’s stomach. He was suddenly hit with a small twinge of jealousy.
One step at a time.
He turned back and ran his hands underneath the water.
The sound of someone gagging drew his attention. Joy was bent over at the edge of the patio with her hands braced on her knees.
The contents of her stomach hit the ground.
“Are you okay?” Maddy asked her.
Wade rushed over to her, wiping his hands on the back of his jeans as he arrived at her side.
Resting his hand on her back, he asked, “You all right, babe?”
She lifted her head and straightened. “I think so.” She grimaced and shook her head. “I don’t know what came over me.”
“Was it something you ate?” he asked, holding her close.
“No, I don’t think so.” She blew out a deep breath.
Maddy stood by, looking concerned. “We have some ginger ale in the fridge. I’ll grab you one.”
When Joy nodded, Maddy spun around and jogged away.
“Do you want to go home?” Wade asked.
She didn’t look well at the moment, and he was worried. He could have her at the hospital in under an hour if he needed to.
“No, I’m sure it will calm down.” She smiled softly, and leaned her head against his chest.
He kissed the top of her head. “Just say the word and we’ll go straight home.” He rubbed her back gently in soothing circles. He wasn’t sure who he was trying to comfort, though, her or him?
“Here you go.” Maddy appeared with the soda in her hand.
“Thank you.” Joy stepped back, away from Wade, and took the can from her. She popped it open and took swig from it.
Maddy eyed Joy with a small smile before she went back to the table with the others.
“Better?” Wade asked. He watched her close her eyes and breathe in before blowing the air out.
“I just hope it doesn’t keep happening.” She moved closer to him and played with his T-shirt.
“Why would it happen again?” Did he need to take her to the hospital? Was something wrong with her?
“Hopefully, it won’t last for the next six months.” She paused and glanced up at him.
“Six months?” Wade swallowed. He ran a hand along his face, unable to believe what he was hearing. “Are you serious?”
She giggled. “I was planning to tell you tonight after dinner, but apparently, this baby is wanting you to know now.”
Wade whooped and scooped her up in his arms. He swung her around, unable to contain his excitement.
“What the hell is going on?” Carson called out.
“We’re having a baby!” Wade hollered back, holding Joy up in the air.
His brothers, Maddy, and Tyler, all cheered and clapped.
Joy laughed, swinging her feet. “Wade, put me down!”
He set her on her feet and took her face in his hands. He pressed a hard kiss to her lips.
“I love you, Joy.”
“I love you too, Wade. I’m so happy right now, I don’t even know what to do.” Joy gripped his shirt in her hands with a wide grin on her lips.
“Well, Whitaker, when we get home, I’m sure I can come up with a few things we can do,” he joked.
“I look forward to it, Brooks.”
Wade covered her lips with his. He couldn’t wait to get his woman home so he could show her just how happy her news had made him.
A Note From the Author
Dear reader,
Thank you for taking the time to read Roping a Cowboy. This is book two in the Blazing Eagle Ranch and I’m having fun with these cowboys. Writing Wade and Joy’s story was so much fun. These two are meant for each other.
I need to know if you want me to keep going with this series, so that means I have to hear from you. If you don’t know what to say, just say, “Peyton, I need Carson’s book!”
