Black Hollow: Beating Around the Bush

Shayde tried to hide the fact that a tear was cascading down his cheek at the awed expression on Bishop’s face and the love and acceptance on Kohen’s. A napkin was waved in front of him, alerting him to the fact he wasn’t hiding as stealthily as he liked to have believed. He took it and offered Lennox a half-smile.

“I don’t know what to say.” Bishop rubbed his hands down his face before letting out an awkward chuckle. “This is the best day I’ve had in a really, really long time. I love you guys, all of you.”

“You know what this means, guys?” Bishop asked Lennox and Anubis, “It means you’re welcome here for dinner anytime you feel like stopping by.”

They made small talk for a little bit longer until they noticed Kohen’s head beginning to bob at the table. Anubis and Lennox said their goodbyes, as the guys cleaned up the table. Kohen told everyone goodnight and left, leaving the three of them to stare at each other.

“I’d be lying if I didn’t say this has been one hell of a rollercoaster of a day,” Choal announced as he put the cloth he’d used to wipe the table beside the sink.

“Truth.” Shayde agreed as he put plastic wrap over the brownies they’d not had a chance to eat. “And looks like we have dessert for tomorrow.”

Choal bit his lip, “If I recall I was promised my treat after dinner in our bed…..” He turned and headed that way without waiting for a reply.

  “Our bed?” Bishop repeated.

“I like the sound of that.” Shayde agreed as he grabbed Bishop and pulled him along. “Come on love, let’s go make him scream our names in our bed.”

  Epilogue

  “Stop pushing me dammit.”

Bishop frowned as he heard the voices on the other side of their door. He opened it and stared in shock to see the whole rainbow squad standing there with smiles. “What’s going on?”

“Let them in, babe.” Shayde called out, “It’s rude to leave them outside.”

Bishop rolled his eyes and moved back to let everyone enter. Scowling and nodding at their greetings as they walked by him.

“Choal, we have guests,” Shayde hollered from his place on the couch with a wink to Bishop who just shook his head in exasperation.

“Oh,” Choal grunted as he rounded the corner from the kitchen and hesitated. “Hi, guys.” He said awkwardly. “Did you guys want a drink or can I get you something?”

“No, thank you,” Cade said as he pushed Kian to the front of the group.

Bishop’s eyes widened at the display they were putting on as he moved to sit beside Shayde on the couch. “Alpha?” He questioned.

“Choal why don’t you join them on the couch.” Jason encouraged with a smile. “It’ll be easier for us that way.”

Choal nodded and dropped onto the couch, snuggling up next to Bishop he planted a soft kiss to this side of his head.

“So…” Zander began as he pulled out a bag from behind his back. “We’ve been thinking a lot about what you said yesterday and…”

“We wanted to apologize.” Kian jumped in as he too brought out a bag. “We hadn’t considered how we could come across…”

Teagen held out her own bag, “And we wanted to apologize and give you this.”

Bishop nodded hesitantly as he reached out and took one of the bags. He watched the group as Choal and Shayde did the same.

“Well, look inside,” Tristan called out with a giggle.

Bishop bit his lip as he carefully reached inside the bag and pulled out a T-shirt. His eyes widened as he realized what it was. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding.”

“What?” Choal asked as he pulled his out and began to unfold it. “What’s wrong?”

Shayde burst into laughter and held his up. “You got us Rainbow Squad shirts?”

“You guys are assholes.” Bishop couldn’t help but laugh as he examined his. “You know we weren’t serious.”

Kian shrugged, “We know, but it seemed a fitting gesture. We’re all going to wear ours this Friday night when we meet for the movie in the park and then move onto drinks at the bar.”

“Oh for fucks sake.” Jonathan grumbled, “I didn’t agree to that part.”

Bishop studied the group as he narrowed his eyes at them, “And Johnny?”

“He’s already got his and agreed to meet with us. Its official you’re in, whether you like it or not.” Silver smirked, “It’s like the mafia, there’s no way out alive.”

Shayde cocked one eyebrow and turned to Choal, “Babe, what in the hell did your boyfriend get us into?”

“Right now I’m not sure I want to claim him either. I’ve heard the stories, I don’t want to end up in jail and leave Kohen home alone.” Choal said in seriousness.

“Wow, love you guys too,” Bishop grumbled.

The group all laughed as Bishop finally sighed and laughed too. “What a fucking day this has been. Is life always going to be this insane with you two around?”

“No, but it will be because of me,” Kohen interjected as he launched himself over the couch. “I’m a handful and it’ll only get worse. Seraphine said so.”

Jason laughed as he ruffled the kid’s hair, “See it sounds like you’re going to need the squad to help you keep your sanity.”

“Plus,” Blake offered with a cheeky smile, “It’ll be a few years before he’ll start causing the kind of trouble we do when we’re all together. And when it does happen, you’ll know how to handle it, since you’ve already been through it.”

“Oh fuck me.” Bishop groaned before starting to laugh. “The Gods must be insane for putting us all together like this.”
