“Fantastic,” he said. “I’ll have to organise a ring and make the arrangements for the ceremony. I’d prefer something quiet and I guess you would too, not having any family and friends.”
I waited for something more. He’d proposed. Shouldn’t he take me in his arms and kiss me at least?
He kept pacing, though. The happiness still radiated in my heart, but there was a tinge of emptiness to it. Something slightly off-kilter.
I swept that aside. Everything was perfect. I’d marry Dom and all those things I feared for my future would be gone forever. I didn’t need to worry or think about this too deeply. He was a strange guy, and it made sense he wouldn’t do things the other men did. It would all work out fine.
Chapter 14. Dom
She accepted. I’m not sure why I’d had any doubts. I was an amazing catch for her, for any woman.
I had to get married sometime and she was as good as anyone. I’m not sure why I suddenly had this weak feeling in my knees. This was a business decision, not an emotional one. We’d be business partners in an arrangement. I had no reason to be crazy happy.
At least she knew how to please me. If I married one of those stupid society girls Mitzy had always introduced me to, they’d have driven me crazy. I had no need of someone like that.
Maybe I should’ve been honest with Veronica. This wasn’t about love or romance. I needed control of the company and this was the most expedient way to do that.
Sure, I’d look after her. She’d never want for a thing so long as she got no stupid romantic notions in her head. I’d never love her, but I’d protect her and take care of her needs. We’d have a satisfactory partnership.
She’d understand it was all about business. Hell, I’d wanted to kiss her when she’d said “yes,” though. I’d wanted to take her in my arms and kiss her like crazy. But that might’ve given her the wrong idea.
Anyway, she’d agreed and it was all working out, and now she’d never leave me, ever.

About me:
Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played.“Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity– totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.
Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.
But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.
