Can't Fight This Feeling (Indigo Royal Resort Book 1)

With that last sentence, she lost all her resolve. She let out a quiet sob and the tears broke through. Kyle reached an arm around her, pulling her into him. She nuzzled her head into the crook of his neck, continuing to cry and sob. She couldn’t help herself. She wasn’t sure if it was the church, or being with Kyle, or just that she hadn’t taken the chance to miss them recently, but her emotions took over. Most days she was fine with the hand that she’d been dealt. It’s not as if she’d been unloved or had no family at all. It was a weird dynamic with her uncles, but they were still a family and made it work.
“I’m so, so sorry Drea. I don’t remember all that much of my dad, but I do still have a few memories. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have never known them.”
“Some days it’s fine. Others I feel cheated.” She sat back up and wiped furiously at her tears. She hated that she was bawling like this in front of Kyle. This hadn’t been her intent, to take this serious and dark turn; she had simply wanted to show him some place that made her feel close to her parents. “I’m a mess. I’m sorry, this wasn’t why I brought you here.”
“You’re a beautiful mess,” he said, bringing a hand to her face to wipe away her tears. “And I’ll gladly listen to you tell me whatever stories you want, happy or sad. And if they’re sad, I’ll sit here and hold you while you cry. I want all of you, Drea, that includes the tears.”
She laughed lightly at his perfect-boyfriend answer. She thought about giving him a hard time about it, asking if he’d read that line in one of her books or something, but then she thought better of it. She knew that it was just Kyle and that he’d always been there to support her through everything, even when they were just friends. She considered pinching herself to make sure it was all real, but his hand that had moved to squeezing her knee let her know it was.
“Can we go do something happy now?”
“Umbrellas?” he asked, optimistically.
“Yes, please.”
Their visit to the church had taken up more time than Kyle had expected, but they still had enough time to hit up Fortaleza Street before they needed to head to his surprise location. He hadn’t meant to open a can of worms by asking Drea about her parents, and part of him felt guilty for it. But he had meant what he told her while they were sitting there—he wanted all of her, and that included getting to know all the parts she didn’t like to show. Wiping away her tears was a small price to pay for being able to hold her in his arms and having her open up to him.
The walk to Fortaleza Street was mostly uphill from the church and Drea grumbled a number of times along the way. Kyle had offered to give her a piggyback ride, and each time had been met with the response of “but I’m in a sundress,” not that he had any clue what difference that made. All he knew was that once they did make it up there, her reaction would have been worth every step.
As they rounded the corner and the brightly colored umbrellas came into view, it was all Kyle could do to not let Drea’s giggle go straight to his groin. She grabbed his hand and pulled him the rest of the way to the street corner, moving faster than he’d seen her move in awhile. She hopped up and down, giggling as she did so, looking up wide-eyed at the rows and rows of an everyday item that had been repurposed to create something spectacular. While it didn’t bring quite the same level of joy to him as it did Drea, Kyle did have to admit it was cool looking. Watching Drea get as excited as a small child on Christmas over something so simple was easily going to be a highlight in his mind for a very long time. Her giggle rang out, echoing off the buildings in the alleyway, making it that much more potent.
She pulled him close and made him take a selfie (or twenty) with her. At first it seemed stupid—they could just hand the phone to one of the dozen other people milling about taking pictures—but as she continued he got caught up in her antics and started to make silly faces right along with her. He loved seeing this side of her return. Her smile and giggle were some of his favorite parts of her. But to know she was able to recover so quickly, having just been sobbing not all that long ago in the church, showed a resilience that he didn’t know she possessed until today. All combined, it made him respect her even more.
“We came, we saw, we conquered the umbrellas,” Kyle said, when he thought Drea might finally be done with the selfies.
“How does one conquer an umbrella? Especially ones elevated three stories up as a work of art?” she giggled.
“Umm, I’m gonna have to think on that,” he replied. She giggled again, throwing her arms around him and kissing him. The stirring in his pants was starting to get borderline uncomfortable. He needed to figure out how to control his dick around her when she kissed him like that. Going through life with a constant hard-on was not something he looked forward to. “Ready for my surprise stop?”
“I totally forgot! How could I forget?”
“The magic of umbrellas, I suppose.” She giggled once more and Kyle had to stop to shift himself in his pants, hoping she didn’t notice.
“Well, lead the way, good sir.”
What should have been a fifteen-minute walk from the umbrella street to the beach took them closer to a half hour, due to stopping to peer into shops and taking selfies along the way. The couple of stops he made just to kiss her didn’t exactly speed up the trip either. Not that he had been in any kind of hurry to get there. He was enjoying being able to be with Drea as her boyfriend, open and out in public, not having to worry about who might see them. It hadn’t even been a full day, but he already knew it would be a rough adjustment once they were back on the resort and had to hide things again.
They reached Playa Peña Beach just as the sun was starting to set, and Kyle was all of a sudden more than a little nervous. He hadn’t expected the emotional moment earlier today in the church when he planned this little stop. He hoped that after the afternoon they’d had she would see it as an attempt to be romantic and not him stirring up the memory pot all over again.
“We’re at Playa Peña,” Drea commented, taking in her surroundings. Her eyes started to get that glassy look again, and her voice got small as she said, “this is where my parents met.”
Kyle stopped in his tracks, taking her in. She was taking in slow, heavy breaths, trying to fight back some of the tears he could see forming in her eyes. He should have developed a plan B after her breakdown earlier. He should have just found a nice place to have dinner, or something, anything other than taking her to a place that was tied to painful memories.
“I know, sweetness. I thought it would be nice to sit and watch the sunset here, just like they did on their first date.” He sighed, taking her hands in his, looking her in the eyes. “But I didn’t stop to rethink that after everything you shared while we were in the church. So if this is too painful, then we can go anywhere else.”
“No,” she answered, shaking her head. A tear slipped out, and she wiped it away. “This is perfect. It’s just, how did you know?”
“Know what?” he asked. He was confused by her question. He thought everyone who worked at the Indigo Royal knew that Playa Peña was where Miller and his best friend met their wives. Wasn’t that why the little wedding chapel on site was named Playa Peña? Or maybe he only knew because he was close with Drea. Maybe now he looked like some weird stalker knowing this tidbit.
“Know that I’ve always wanted someone to bring me here for the sunset. And, I mean a romantic someone, not my family. I’ve dreamed about it since I was a little girl, being able to have a moment on this beach just like they did.” She sniffed, wiping another escaped tear from her cheek. “I’ve never told anyone.”
“Anyone? Even Leona?”
“Even Lee. I might have written it in a diary when I was little, but that’s as close as I’ve ever come to voicing it.”
“Well, I promise I wasn’t reading your childhood diary. I know this place was something that was theirs and I thought maybe it was something that could be ours too.” He leaned down and kissed her forehead gently. I
t was as if he could hear the smile spread across her face as he did so, and that let a flood of emotions loose in him.
Taking her hand, he led her farther down the beach and found an outcropping of rocks in a little alcove that seemed like the perfect place for them to sit. The beach was relatively quiet, since the majority of locals and tourists would be heading to dinner at about this time, but the alcove still provided an extra level of privacy for the two of them. Kyle brushed off the top of the large flat rock, that was the perfect chair height, and sat down, scooting back with his legs spread so he could pull Drea in between them and hold her in his arms. She settled into the spot he made for her easily, resting her head back so it lay on the front part of his shoulder. Wrapping his arms around her, he intertwined his fingers with hers, tightened his arms around her, and kissed the top of her head.
They sat there, curled up in each other, not saying anything for a long time, just watching the ocean. It was almost completely dark now, and they hadn’t seen another person on the beach for quite awhile. Kyle reached up and started to massage Drea’s shoulders, figuring after the sentimental afternoon they’d had, she was probably carrying a little bit of tension there. She mewed and moaned lightly as his fingers kneaded her flesh and she tilted her head exposing her neck.
Leaning in, he pulled her hair back and placed a trail of soft kisses along her neck as she did so, causing her moans to take on a different shape. She moved her body from side to side against his, causing the erection he’d been managing to keep under control all evening to swell back to life. He moved his hands from her shoulders to back down around her waist, slowing creeping up toward her chest. When his palms reached the undersides of her breasts, she let out another little noise, egging him on more.
He loved the feel of her breasts in his hands. To him, they really were the most perfect set he’d ever seen. They fit so perfectly in his grip and the feel of their smoothness against his calloused hands gave him goosebumps. Her nipples responded to his touch like they were created to be touched by only him, and he loved every little reaction they elicited from her. Sweeping his thumbs over them now he could feel them pebble under the fabric of her dress. This caused her to wiggle some more, turning his cock rock-hard underneath her.
She turned about ninety degrees in her seat, so that both her legs were draped over his left one, and placed her hands on his chest. Tilting her head back, Kyle leaned down and captured her mouth in his, tasting that sweet, unique taste he'd come to associate with her. He was pretty sure he could get drunk off her kiss alone. Kissing her like this had turned an already amazing night up a couple of notches. Everything she did was just perfection and for the life of him, he couldn’t figure out what on earth he had done to deserve the angel that was currently in his lap.
Sucking on his bottom lip, Drea stood up in the sand and turned to face him. She reached for the button of the khaki shorts he’d changed into after they docked, undoing it and slipping her hand down in between his shorts and his briefs. She slowly palmed his cock while continuing to nibble on his lip, and Kyle thought for a second he might just come right then and there. When she reached into his briefs and pulled out his rock-hard length and dropped to her knees, Kyle was so taken aback he couldn’t move.
“What are you doing?” he asked, unable to hide the surprise in his voice.
“You gave me something special, and I want to give you a special memory in return,” she answered, with a wicked little grin on her face. She gripped his cock firmly, and slowly started gliding her hand up and down.
“Sweetness, you don’t have to—” He was cut off by the feel of her tongue circling the tip of his dick. “Oh, God….”
“It’s not about having to,” she answered with another lick, this time from base to tip. “It’s about wanting to.”
With those last words, she knelt down, wrapped her whole mouth around him, and sucked. A wave of lust shot through Kyle at the feeling of her warm, wet mouth taking him in. She bobbed her head up and down slowly, using her tongue on the underside of his shaft on every upward motion. Kyle couldn’t believe the sensations he was feeling. She sucked cock like a goddess and there was no way he was going to last if he let her continue like this. He needed to be inside her and now.
He managed to somehow straighten himself up, unaware he’d even leaned back, and reached down to lift her up from her knees. Pulling her into him, he claimed her mouth, kissing her hard, his tongue dancing with hers in long, sweeping strokes.
“Did I do something wrong? I’ve never...so, I’m sorry if it was bad…” she whispered, looking away from him as she broke the kiss.
“You did everything right, sweetness. Maybe a little too right,” he said with a low laugh. “But as amazing as your mouth feels, I know that your pussy feels even better and that’s the only place my dick wants to be.”
He reached up her skirt, running his hand up the inside of her thigh, slowly moving toward her heat. When he finally reached his destination, he found her already wet, the little thong she had on soaked through. He ran his hand back and forth over the soaking fabric, getting her even more worked up.
“I like when you say things like that,” she murmured through her heavy breaths. She ground her hips against his hand, trying to create more friction.
“Yeah? You like when I talk dirty?”
She nodded, unable to form words as he continued to rub her. Taking his time, he moved the little bit of lace covering her sex to the side, finally making skin-to-skin contact. She let out a sound that was a cross between a moan and a whimper, and it made him even harder in the process. He slowly inserted two of his fingers into her, and damn, was she tight. Her knees went weak when he entered her that way, and she had to grab ahold of his shoulders so she didn’t collapse.
“That’s my girl,” he rasped, continuing to massage her insides.
When her knees quivered again, he gently pulled his fingers out and raised them to his lips. He took his fingers into his mouth and sucked her arousal off of them. She looked at him with wide, shocked eyes as he did so.
“You taste amazing,” he growled. “One more reason to call you sweetness.”
Kyle could see the blush creeping up her face in the moonlight. Reaching into his pocket, he found the condom that he’d grabbed before heading to shore, ripped it open, and rolled it down his cock.
“Come here, baby.” He grabbed her hips and pulled her into his lap, so she was straddling him. She positioned herself over him, and he slowly lowered her down his length. He let out a groan as he felt her tightness take hold of him.
They both remained still for a moment, taking in the feel of them coming together. She kissed him, in little tiny kisses, one right after the other. He shifted his hips to start grinding against her, but she slowed him down by taking on a tempo of her own. He was lost in the feeling of her moving up and down, back and forth on his shaft as she rode him. The look on her face told him she was just as lost in the moment as he was. Making love on the beach in the moonlight hadn’t ever been something he’d thought about, but damn if they weren’t going to have to try for a repeat performance at home.
Drea reached down between them, finding her clit with her middle finger, and started to rub furiously. Her whimpers and whines were becoming louder, but they were both so into the moment neither was concerned with who might hear.
“Yeah, baby, come for me,” Kyle growled in her ear. Apparently those little words were all she needed. She exploded on him, her whimpers becoming silent as she fell apart in his arms. The feel of her pussy gripping him even tighter as she continued to move was pushing him over the edge too. He could feel his own orgasm building, and with a few last thrusts he came, hot and hard.
Coming down from her high, Drea collapsed against him, still straddling his lap. Her breath was labored, and he could feel her heart racing as she rested her forehead on his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her tighter, letting her know that he was here, and he wasn’t letting go.r />
Chapter Nineteen
Their impromptu beach tryst had left both of them wiped, but in a good way. After they’d righted themselves, they walked along the shore. The beach was still mostly quiet, with only a few other couples out and about, looking for the same kind of quiet, alone time that Drea and Kyle had been. The coolness of the ocean felt good against Drea’s ankles—her whole body still felt like it was on fire after what she’d just done. Hardly believing she’d been so bold, she was having a hard time keeping all of her feelings in check.
She thought about her parents, and how they had met right here twenty-seven years earlier. One of the few items she had from her mother was the journal Sofia had kept around the time of meeting Drea’s father. Miller had given it to her for her sixteenth birthday, holding back the tears as he watched her flip through it for the first time. It had quickly become one of her most cherished possessions, having spent hours and hours poring over the pages until she had almost memorized some of the entries.
Her parents had fallen for each other hard and fast, but it was obvious from reading her mother’s words that what they felt for each other was deep and true. The passion was clear to Drea, even all those years later, and for the first time in her life she’d felt a real connection to them. The journal entries chronicled all the major events of those months, from the night the guys met them on the beach, to Sofia’s confusion about whether Dave was serious about his proposal, to the magic that was their wedding day. The very last entry in the journal ended with Sofia revealing that she felt that she and Dave were “about to set out on our greatest adventure yet.” Taped just below it was a printed photograph of a positive pregnancy test.
Her favorite entry, the one she’d read over and over again, had been the one where Sofia had detailed their “first date.” It was the evening after the young men had crashed the party the sisters were at, having convinced them to give them a chance. The four of them had started out together, hanging out and window shopping in Old San Juan, and stopping at a street vendor for food. In her mind, Drea always assumed it was the empanada cart. After they had finished dinner, Dave had stolen Sofia away, giving his best friend a moment alone with her sister. They’d headed to Raíces Fountain, which had long been referred to as the most romantic place in the city. Although Drea had never understood what was so romantic about the fountain—she’d much preferred the whimsy of the umbrellas—she could appreciate that there had been something about it that had enchanted her mother. Their first kiss was in front of the fountain, and they had even taken a picture of themselves kissing. Sofia and Dave’s selfie skills with the old school film camera hadn’t been spectacular, so the photo was at a weird angle, but that only served to make the happiness and excitement all the more palpable.
