  Chapter 1

Pam stared out the window of the plane as the other passengers stood up to gather their luggage from the overhead compartment. She chewed her lip, wishing she was still back in England. As happy as she was to be done with her Masters degree and all the anxiety leading up to finishing her thesis, that paled in comparison to what she now faced.

Brent leaned in close, flashing her his heart-stopping smile. The one that had curled her toes and sent her heart pounding the first time she’d ever seen him. He’d had a way, right from the start, of making her feel profoundly special. A major feat when she’d felt invisible all her life.

That’s why she loved this man so much.

He rested his hand on hers.

“Don’t worry. They’re going to love you.”

Damn, the man knew how to read her. She hadn’t said a thing about her trepidation at meeting his older brothers. Yet he knew.

“What if they don’t?” she asked, finally verbalizing her deepest dread.

Brent idolized his brothers. If they didn’t like her… She didn’t even want to think about the pain that would cause Brent. Because she knew if forced to make a choice, he’d choose her.

Her heart ached. She still couldn’t believe how lucky she’d been to find this perfect man. She wouldn’t be able to bear being the cause of his pain.

He slid his arm around her waist and drew her close.

“They will. You’re extremely intelligent, compassionate, caring.” He squeezed her tighter, his lips turning up in a grin. “And sexier than I deserve.”

Her cheeks flushed. With his exceptional good looks and his charismatic personality, he could have dated any woman he’d wanted. But for some reason he’d chosen her.

She cupped his cheeks and pressed her lips to his, her heart swelling with love.

He pulled her closer, devouring her mouth with a tender passion, mindless of the passengers filing down the airplane aisle beside them.

When their lips parted, her heart thudding loudly. He smiled and leaned his forehead against hers.

“You know I love you and nothing’s ever going to change that.”

She nodded. He made a point of saying that to her regularly, ever since he’d come to understand how broken she was and how much she needed to know she had someone she could depend on. And understanding how impossible it was for her to actually believe that was true.

“Good,” he said. “Now let’s go meet my brother.”

Brent kept his arm around Pam as they waited in the long line for Customs. She pushed her long chestnut hair behind her ears and gazed up at him with her big, green eyes. He smiled encouragingly. He didn’t chat, knowing she needed the quiet time to ground herself. He knew how terrified she was to meet his brothers and he wished he could help her past it, but there was nothing he could say that would push aside her anxiety. After her father leaving when she was two, then her mother abandoning her in a train station when she was ten years old, Pam had no concept of what it was like to feel secure and loved by family. Or anyone else.

The line moved forward and they stepped up to the Customs agent. After a few brief questions, she waved them through. Thank heavens it was fast and easy. Pam was stressed enough.

As they stepped through the sliding doors, Brent couldn’t hold back his smile. He hadn’t seen his brothers for far too long. Doing his Masters in the UK had been a wonderful opportunity but it had meant leaving his family for two years, with just one trip back home to Toronto for Christmas and a brief visit with Abel when he’d been travelling around Europe last year. He and his brothers had always been close, and he’d never been away from them this long.

He could feel Pam’s fingers tighten around his arm. He turned his head to glance at her.

“Is that your brother?” she asked.

Brent glanced in the direction she was staring to see Drake waving at them through the crowd, a big smile on his face. Beside him was his wife Marie.

Drake and Marie strode toward them, then Drake pulled Brent into a big bear hug. Brent hugged him back, joy swelling through him.

When Drake finally released him, he turned to Pam.

“Hi. I’m Drake, Brent’s older brother.”

Drake offered his hand and she hesitated, then reached out and shook it.

“Hello,” Pam said in a subdued voice.

Brent knew that Drake wanted to pull her into a hug, but held back at the glint of panic in her eyes.

“Hi, Brent,” Marie said and gave Brent a big hug.

He had only spent a few days in Marie’s company at Christmas, but that was long enough to know that she was a lovely, warm person. And she was very good for his brother.

She turned to Pam. “Hi, I’m Marie, Drake’s wife.”

“Hi,” Pam said and shook her hand, too. “It’s very nice of you and Drake to come and pick us up.”

“Of course. It’s what families do.”

Brent noticed the haunted look in Pam’s eyes as Marie took her hand and guided her toward the entrance, asking her about the flight. It wasn’t the kind of thing Pam’s family had done. In Pam’s world, she’d had to look out for herself from far too young an age. His heart ached at the pain she’d suffered growing up.

Drake chuckled as he grabbed Brent’s carry-on and stacked it on the luggage cart, securing it on top.

“You go all the way to the UK and come back with a Canadian girlfriend. I thought sure
you’d fall for some British beauty. Or that Australian woman you started seeing your first year there.”

  Brent’s eyebrows arched. “Disappointed?”

“No way. She’s lovely. My worry was that you wouldn’t want to come back and,”—he tousled Brent’s hair—“I’ve missed having you around.”

Brent laughed. “Yeah, I missed you guys, too.”

Drake pushed the cart forward. “Pam seems shy,” Drake said.

“She’s not comfortable around new people. That’s why I suggested Abel and Cain not come to the airport, too. She would have been overwhelmed.”

Drake nodded. “I take it she’s not from an affectionate family.”

  “That’s definitely true.”

Drake rested his hand on Brent’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. We’ll do whatever we can to make her feel comfortable.”

  Chapter 2

Pam sat snuggled against Brent in the back seat of the car. She glanced at Drake’s face in the rear view mirror. It was clear he and Brent were brothers. She’d noticed the striking resemblance when she’d first seen him in the crowd at the airport.

Brent’s lips were fuller and his hair a lighter brown than Drake’s, but they both had a similar facial structure with a square jaw and high cheekbones. And both had blue-grey eyes. Drake was older than Brent by about five years and despite his laid-back attitude, there was an air of authority about him. Or maybe she just felt that because he was about the same age as her father when he’d left her and her mother.

She’d never had an authority figure in her life. Her father left when she was very young and her mother had no rules whatsoever. Pam’s friends had hated having rules, but when they were called in for dinner or bedtime, Pam would go back to the dumpy apartment where she lived with her mother in an old converted schoolhouse, not knowing if her mother would be there or not. Often there was nothing to eat and she was terrified sleeping alone on nights when her mother never showed up.

Brent had grown up with parents who loved him and took care of him, and older brothers who looked out for him. From everything Brent had told her about Drake, Craig and Abel she knew they’d look out for her, too, if she needed it.

Drake glanced in the rear view mirror and their gazes locked. He smiled and she felt her cheeks flush. She dragged her gaze away, her stomach quivering.

The car slowed and Drake turned into the driveway of a lovely two-story house with a large oak tree out front and a garden with deep pink peonies in bloom, surrounded by petunias in purple, pinks, and white.

Drake got out of the car and opened her car door, then offered his hand. She glanced at Brent, then curled her fingers around Drake’s big hand. At the feel of it, tingles danced along her arm just like when he’d shaken her hand when they first met. He helped her from the car, then pressed his hand to her lower back and guided her forward.

His closeness unsettled her. Not in a bad way. He was big and muscular and she felt safe by his side, especially with his hand on her back in an almost protective way. But an odd excitement skittered through her, making her cheeks flush. She shouldn’t be so aware of his masculinity. Of how sexy he was.

She should not be attracted to her boyfriend’s brother.

“Go ahead and take Pam in to see the house,” Brent said, “and I’ll get the luggage.”

Marie stepped to Pam’s other side with a warm smile and took her arm then led her along the stone path to the front door. Drake no longer touched her, he just walked by her side, but she still felt the heat of his presence.

Marie pushed the key in the lock and opened the door. When Pam stepped inside, her breath caught as she glanced around at the hardwood floors, the wooden built-in cabinets… the stone fireplace.

“Do you like it?” Drake asked.

“I was worried you might find it a little small,” Marie said.

“I love it,” Pam said, trying to keep the quaver from her voice.

When Brent had let his brothers know he was returning to Canada, having secured a good job in Toronto, Drake had told him about this place being for rent. He’d sent pictures and when Brent showed them to Pam, suggesting they grab the place, she’d fallen in love, not believing she’d actually have a real home.

The reality was even better than she’d imagined.

She walked into the living room, her heart swelling with joy.

Brent came in the door and set the luggage down at the entrance.

“Wow, this is really nice.” He walked to her side and slid his arm around her. “What do you think?”

All she could do was nod. The unfamiliar feeling of being in a real home, tucked closely against the man who wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, was overwhelming. Warmth washed through her and she felt tears welling in her eyes. She quickly blinked them back, but not before Brent noticed.

  “Are you okay?”

“Yes, of course. I’ve just… never lived in a house before.” She squeezed his hand. “And it’s so beautiful.”

He smiled. “I hoped you’d like it.”

“And the best part is, we live two doors down,” Drake said with a smile.

Marie laughed. “Don’t let that worry you,” she said. “We’ll try not to be underfoot all the time.”

“Come on, I’ll show you around,” Drake said.

He grabbed two of the suitcases and Brent picked up the two carry-ons and followed his brother up the solid oak staircase. Marie and Pam followed, Marie pointing out all the lovely features of the house. Wide stairway and halls. Window seat in the master bedroom overlooking a lovely backyard with a big tree and flowering bushes. Even a lilac bush, which Pam adored.

Along with the master bedroom, there were two guest bedrooms upstairs. The main floor had a comfortable living room overlooking the front yard, a dining room, and a large kitchen with a breakfast nook. It was everything she’d want in a home.

“We did a grocery run to ensure you have the staples.” Marie said as she led Pam to the kitchen, then opened the fridge to show her the stocked shelves and drawers. “If you need anything else, we can do a run to the store. Just let me know. And feel free to drop by to borrow eggs or milk or whatever you might need.”

Drake pulled a key from his pocket and handed it to her.

“Here’s a key to our house. Feel free to go in if we aren’t there.”

“If you knock and we don’t answer,” Marie said, “we might be out or we might just be in the pool in the backyard. Either way, feel free to come inside and just grab what you need.”

Pam stared at the key in her hand uncertainly. “You don’t mind if I just come into your house anytime?”

Marie squeezed her hand. “You’re family, so you’re always welcome.”

“You must be tired after the long trip and the jet lag.” Drake took Marie’s hand and they walked to the door. “We’ll let you two settle in. Don’t forget, dinner tomorrow at our place. Everyone’s looking forward to meeting Pam.”

Once they left, Brent took her hand and drew her toward him. “So you really like the house?”

She beamed at him. “I love it.”

“And what do you think of Drake?”

  Chapter 3

Pam’s stomach tightened. Did Brent somehow know how Drake affected her?

“Oh, I like him,” she said cautiously. “He’s very nice.”

“Yeah? What do you like about him?” Brent asked.

“Um, he’s very friendly and warm-hearted. I can tell he really cares about you.”

Brent grinned. “And he’s taller than me. You’ve always told me you were attracted to me because I’m tall and good-looking. Everyone says how handsome my brothers are.”

At his playful tone, she smiled, relaxing a little. She’d said a lot of other things about Brent, too, but she knew where this was going.

In an attempt to make his big brothers seem less intimidating to her, he’d told her that women often threw themselves at the triplets and teased that she might fall und
er their spell, too.

“So you’re worried I’ll be tempted away from you.”

“Well, there are three of them and only one of me,” he continued. “A lot of women have told me they’ve fantasized about being with all three of them.”

A tingle danced down her spine at the thought of three identical, gorgeous Drakes, all giving her pleasure at the same time. The crazy idea unnerved her. And also excited her.

But she loved Brent and he was the only man she wanted to be with.

She glided her hands up his chest and around his neck, grinning.

“Oh? And who are these multitude of women who were telling you about their sexual fantasies?”

His arms slid around her waist, then glided up her back.

“Just women. Maybe I dated the odd one.”

She giggled. “Well, maybe it was just the odd ones who’d have you.”

She pushed herself on her tiptoes and kissed him, luxuriating in the warmth of his arms around her.

“But don’t worry.” She glided her hand down his chest, then over his stomach. “I find you more than enough man to keep me happy.”

He groaned as her fingertips teased lightly over the growing bulge in his pants.

Brent loved Pam’s touch. When she glided her fingers over any part of him, his pulse would race and his body ache. But when she touched him there… it was like igniting a fire inside him. His cock instantly surged to life, hardening to painful fullness.
