She got off the bed and came towards him. He had propped his leg on a padded seat. She pulled a matching one to him and sat there, her eyes pleading. “I wanted to tell you so many times. I was frantic that you would think I tricked you. When we spoke and agreed to this marriage you said you wanted an heir out of it and I did not know what to say.”
“Even after we have been together and I showed you how I felt?” His tone was cool and for the first time since she had been with him she was afraid.
“I was planning to tell you the night when you had-”
“You said you had something to talk to me about,” he said with a frown.
“Yes, and I said it to you when you were unconscious.” She twisted her hands. “Please forgive me for not telling you before.”
He lifted her chin up, his fingers gentle. “I love you,” he told her quietly. “There is nothing you could tell me about you that I would not understand. I want you to promise me that you will never hide anything from me again.”
She closed her eyes and opened them again. “That’s a promise I can keep.”
“Good.” He bent and kissed her lips slowly. “Doctor Whittingham is a friend and is very good. I will make an appointment.”
*****
She was exactly four weeks pregnant! She had told her husband about the fertility doctor she had been to and otherwise from giving her a look he had not said anything much about it. “I never thought that this was something that could happen,” she said as he finished up his examination. “I have fibroids.” Her tone was a little anxious. “Do you think it will be an issue?”
“Not at all. Everything looks very good but I will be monitoring you all the way. You are healthy, my dear, and that’s always a plus.”
“Thanks, Henry.” Theodore maneuvered the crutch as he followed them out the room. One of the drivers had taken them to the medical clinic and was waiting for them outside.
They waited and filled the prescription before heading out. “Take us to the apartment please, Cecil,” he told the driver as soon as he helped him into the car.
“I thought we were going back to the manor,” she said as she looked at him.
“I want to be with my wife right now.” His blue-grey eyes met hers and something in them caused her to shiver. He reached out and took her hand in his. “I love you completely.” His tone was intense as he brought her hand up to his lips to kiss it. “Even if we never had a chance of having a child, I would never love you any less. I know you are scared because of what your parents especially your dad put you through but it is not going to happen to us. I promise you that our child will be so loved that he or she will never have to question what we feel.”
“And I know what you went through with your father,” her voice was tremulous. “And I know that you are going to be the best dad our child could ever have.”
“I guarantee that,” he told her huskily.
Eaton greeted them at the door and helped Theodore to their bedroom. He made sure his boss was comfortable before turning to Ebboni with a broad smile on his face. “I understand congratulations are in order. If there is anything I can do for you to make you more comfortable, please do not hesitate to let me know. You have made me a very happy man.” He hurried out before Ebboni could say anything.
“You told him?”
“I did,” Theodore said with a grin. “I told you he was like a father to me.” He patted his lap. “Come and sit on me.”
“No. You are still recovering and I don’t want to hinder that.”
“Ebboni, please. Are you going to deny a sick man his request?” His eyes glinted as he looked at her.
“You are far from sick if you are thinking about sex,” she told him dryly but heeded his request anyway. “I love you, Theodore,” she told him soberly. “And I am thinking that if we are having a girl, her name could be Leonora.” She bent her head to his. “And of course if it’s a boy, the tradition continues.”
“I am thinking of breaking from tradition,” he murmured as he clasped her around the waist. “I always loved the name Adam and Anthony as the middle name.”
“So our son will be called the three As?” she teased him.
“Something like that,” he said with a grin. She felt the atmosphere shifted as the smile left his face and he tilted her chin up. “I love you too, baby.” His mouth descended and she met him halfway. It had been weeks since they had made love and the thirst and hunger was well defined as their lips met. His tongue battled with hers and tasted. She clung to him and the kiss deepened slowly. She felt him hardening beneath her and she moved over him automatically emitting a groan from his throat that was swallowed up inside her mouth. She was wearing a clingy blue wool dress and had taken off her boots as soon as she came inside their room. He eased her up, pushing her dress up around her waist. She helped him get rid of her leggings and her lace panties before dealing with the zipper of his pants. She made sure not to sit too much on his broken leg but eased the pressure off by straddling him. She moaned deep and long as he impaled her, reaching in deep, touching her core. Their lips still clung to each other! His hands gripped her hips to steady her as he thrust into her lazily. The door was not locked but he knew Eaton would never dream of intruding no matter what. Ebboni lifted her head from his but only so she could pull the dress over her head. His eyes darkened as he gazed at her full breasts encased in the black lace. He unhooked her bra and dropped the material to the carpeted floor before cupping her flesh. His thumbs teased and drove her crazy as he moved inside her. He was not in a hurry, he was delaying the moment. It had been too long without her and he wanted to savor it. Ebboni arched her back and sighed softly as he bent his head to take a hardened nipple inside his mouth. The cries were choppy and breathless as the waves after waves of passion encased her body. Her fingers dug into his shoulders as she tried to get back some of the control that was slipping away from her but to no avail! He left her nipple and nibbled at the soft skin between her breasts, his teeth leaving little marks along the way. Ebboni rode him, her breath uneven, and her body hot to the touch. He lifted his head and looked up at her, his tanned handsome face flushed with the love he had for her. His wife, his woman, and the person who held his heart in the palm of her hands. Very soon she was going to be the mother of his child and there was nothing he would not do for her! The very thought brought his orgasm closer and with a broken murmur he emptied himself inside her, holding her close as she came all over him, her body curving to him weakly!

“Darling, this is beautiful!” Emma said softly as she wandered around the room. Eaton had been true to his word and had taken over with everything. He had insisted on overseeing the decorating of the nursery. Ebboni had never seen the man so animated as each month passed and she got bigger with the pregnancy. Both he and Theodore had been over the moon when they found out that it was a boy! The large room was decorated in a shell like blue with cream borders. The words ‘Adam Anthony Amberville’ were written in big white letters above the cot. The furniture in the room was all antique and had been dug up from the basement at the manor.
“Eaton is having fun decorating.” Ebboni rubbed her belly automatically. She was three weeks away from delivery and she was getting a little anxious. Andrea had told her that it was natural for her to feel that way. She went out with the other wives almost every week. Since she had gotten too big to travel, they took turns in coming to see her. The apartment building had been sorted out and now had full occupancy. Her husband had renamed it and it was now called ‘Ebbonivale.’ She had cried when she saw it!
“He is over the moon and cannot stop talking about you.” Emma touched her daughter-in-law’s arm. “You have given him another lease on life.”
“I am happy.”
“I discussed leaving the manor and having you and Theodore come there to live. Did he discuss it with you?” she asked.
“No, but I think I know the reason for that. “ Ebboni waddled over to the sofa near to the changi
ng table and sat carefully. “He has a lot of unhappy memories there and I don’t think he wants to raise our child there.”
Emma sighed as she sat next to the girl. “I know, darling, and I am so sorry for that. It’s too big for two people and I was hoping that there was a chance-”
“Give him time.” Ebboni squeezed her hands.
“You are right.” Emma looked around the room. “It’s so peaceful here.”
“I actually love it here,” Ebboni admitted. “There is love in this place and that is what makes it so wonderful.”

Adam Amberville was born on a cold rainy day in September, one day after his mother’s twenty-seventh birthday. She had spent her birthday in labor and had thought that her son would be sharing her day but he had come just a little after one a.m. the next day. His beaming father could not stop staring at him. He inherited his mother’s dark curls and her dark brown eyes with his complexion a cross between both of them.
“I think he is hungry,” Theodore said as he gazed down at his son tenderly. The boy’s eyes were closing as if he was fighting to stay awake. Theodore had brought his family home yesterday and found his mother and sister as well as Eaton waiting for their arrival. Eaton had hovered around them and made sure they had something to eat. He had stared at Adam with tears in his eyes.
“Hi, Eaton. I think Adam would like one of those walks you gave him last night,” Ebboni said as she saw the man standing in the doorway. They were in the nursery and was getting him ready for bed.
“I would be honored to take the little man for a walk,” he said as he stepped forward and took the baby from Theodore.
“Watch his head,” Theodore told him.
“I have done this before,” the man said loftily as he took the almost sleeping baby and left the room.
They watched him leave and saw the gentle expression on his face. Theodore walked over and pulled his wife onto his lap. “I am afraid I am going to have to fight Eaton for Adam’s attention,” he said wryly as he nuzzled her neck.
“He looks so happy.”
“I am over the moon happy,” he told her softly. “I never dreamed I could ever experience something like this.”
“Neither did I.” She wrapped her hands around his neck. “If possible, I want three or four children.”
His eyebrows shot up and he laughed. “I will do my best to make that happen, my sweet.”
The end.

Chapter 1
"Women!" Jay Richard flopped onto the couch and swigged at his bottle. "You can't get them to do as they're told."
Matt Prentice watched his friend with wry amusement. Jay was often moaning about women, claiming they were good for absolutely nothing except for a quick roll in the sheets. He could never figure out where Jay was coming from; he went out to charm every night and he even managed to maintain a relationship for a period of time. While Matt had barely met any of them, he knew Jay wouldn't be settled by a girl back home waiting for him.
It wasn't uncommon for Jay to moan about women so Matt didn't hear any alarm bells going off. Picking up his own beer bottle, he sat in his favourite leather armchair and sat back.
"Who's upset you now?"
"That bitch I was seeing. The one from the ghetto." Jay sneered at the ceiling. "She had the nerve to walk out on me. And she took money from me. Just took my card and took hundreds of dollars out before I realized it was gone.”
Matt blinked. That was ballsy. He wondered how the woman had managed to do that; Jay guarded his cards with his life.
"Hundreds of dollars isn't much for you."
"It was a lot." Jay's jaw was tight. "That black bitch is going to be in big trouble when I get hold of her."
Friends as they were, Matt wished Jay wouldn't say things like that about women. Jay wasn't discriminate when it came to bed partners but he turned the hate on when a black woman walked away from him. Matt had never figured out the reason for this and it was uncomfortable when Jay went on one of his rants.
While Matt didn't claim to be a perfect gentleman, he never said anything on Jay's level. He'd had his fair share of gold-diggers but he didn't stoop to being that disrespectful about them.
He also knew whenever Jay talked like this, he was going to go looking for the woman and they were going to have it out, primarily with Jay's fists.
"Jay, let your lawyer find her and sue her." He warned. "Don't go after her yourself. You know that's not good."
Jay swigged his beer and raised an eyebrow at his friend. Six-five, long and lean with hard, compacted muscle with golden blond hair and sea-green eyes, Jay was a sight to behold. Women flocked around him, hanging off his arms and were hooked the minute he opened his mouth and his deep Southern twang came out. He was eye candy, for sure.
Just now when he was threatening harm to a woman, which was a big no-no in Matt's book.
"Who's going to know?"
"I will." Matt pointed his bottle at him. "And I won't hesitate to tell anyone. You may be my best friend but friendship and money are not going to get you out of this."
Jay looked like he wanted to protest but thought better of it. While he was bigger than Matt's six-feet, Matt could easily overpower him in a fight. Matt was a thinker through and through; he rarely did anything impulsively. And if he ended up having to fight with his fists he thought with his brain and could end the fight in just a few strikes. Jay had seen him in action against a man who was even bigger than Matt, height and width, and Matt had laid the man out in three strikes.
He also knew Matt was a man of his word. He would tell the police, whether you were his closest friend, his enemy or even his mother. Matt didn't discriminate. He knew Jay saw him as a goody-two-shoes but he didn't care; it was preferable to do something about it and get to sleep at night than say nothing and someone got hurt.
Jay scowled and looked at his bottle.
"It's a good thing she's not pregnant." He grunted. "Then she would be using that little brat as a weapon."
Matt swallowed.
"Yeah." He croaked. "There is that."
"You still broody?"
Matt put his beer down. Suddenly he didn't feel thirsty. He sat back and rubbed his hands over his face. The mention of pregnancy and babies always set him off and it was getting harder to hide his feelings on the subject. Being his best friend, Jay knew about it but Matt kept it quiet from everyone, including his parents. He knew if they discovered he was broody they would set him up with the daughter of a friend and make them a married couple before the year was out. Marriage bef
ore children was a big thing for them.
Not so for Matt. If he could have a child without the issues of having a woman involved then he would.
Unfortunately science was not that advanced and he wasn't prepared to wait that long.
"I don't know what it is," he confessed morosely. "But whenever I see a little baby I keep wishing I was holding that child. It must be amazing to have unconditional love from somebody."
Men his age were either going out having a good time or were settled down for several years with children. It was the latter that Matt had missed out on early on and wished things hadn't gone that way.
If Lucy and Charlie were still alive...
He pushed thoughts of them away. Remembering them would involve a lot of tears and Matt wasn't breaking down in front of Jay; his friend wouldn't let him live it down.
Jay shook his head and raised his bottle to his lips.
"You are way too young to be getting broody." He declared.
"I'm thirty-two, Jay. That crept up on me quicker than I realized."
Matt had been so busy working he had barely noticed his thirtieth birthday come and go. It wasn't until he was nearly thirty-one that he realized he had moved into the next decade of his life. Now his brain was telling him he needed to ease off on his work and think about family before he blinked and found himself too old to do anything except plan his funeral.
Family was a big thing for the Prentice clan. It was just Matt that hadn't got the message until much later in life.
Jay chuckled and sat forward.
"You need to find yourself a baby mama who's happy with having your baby and then pissing off out of your life."
"That's not as easy as you make it out to be, Jay." Matt leaned his head back and stared at the ceiling. "I know the women bond with their unborn child. There are very few people out there who can give birth and not give a damn about the child. And with my luck the woman will not want to part with a baby she originally agreed she would have nothing to do with."
"Then how about a surrogate? Women give birth to babies for other people for money and they don't need to have sex with you. It's clinical and they have no ties to the child afterwards."
