  Chapter 1 - Karen

Life at The Starwatcher isn't really the kind anyone would call perfect, but then again, I'd always appreciate Frank for giving me an opportunity to earn a living in a city like Los Angeles where things are only easy for the young, thin girls. It’s hard for an average person to find opportunities here.

“I'm so happy for you!” I exclaim while smiling at Lacie.

Lacie happens to be my former coworker. Yeah, she's now a former coworker because she won't be working for The Starwatcher as a bartender any longer. Just like me, Lacie came to Los Angeles to chase her music career, but unfortunately, life isn't so easy down here. We ended up becoming colleagues as Frank employed us to serve drinks in his bar. Reminiscing about how Lacie and I suffered day and night, and sometimes got insulted by arrogant rich customers for no tangible reason, I can't help but smile.

“Come on, why are you smiling like this?” Lacie inquires while pouting.

My smile immediately turns to laughter as I look at Lacie's face.

“It's nothing!” I respond and lean forward to gently hit Lacie on her shoulder. “I'm just reminiscing about the good old days.”

“Past, when you had no sense?!” Lacie cuts in almost immediately while smirking.

I'm certainly going to miss Lacie and her sarcasm. When we came to The Starwatcher, I was the sarcastic one. I guess I'm a good teacher and she's a fast learner.

“I'll kill you even before you have a chance to become a star for Getaway,” I joke while gently hitting on Lacie's back.

Since we rarely have customers during the day, Lacie and I continue to chitchat for a while and all of a sudden, the topic changes to my relationship.

“You rarely talk about your boyfriend now. I hope you guys are still cool?” Lacie asks, innocently.

I pause for a moment and I can see Lacie shifting her chair closer to me.

“Hey!” she tries to call my attention back. “Come on Karen! You know it's completely okay with me if you don't feel like talking about it.”

I like the fact that Lacie isn't pushy. She finishes her statement and then leans back on her seat before smiling at me. I've always wanted to open up to someone so I could at least be free within. It's not as if I never considered talking to Lacie about my relationship issues, but then, the problem has always been knowing where to start. Looking at Lacie who is trying as much as possible to remain calm and unbothered by my silence, I somehow summon the courage to start.

For me, loving Ryan was never something I could control. I guess he knew it and that was why he could cheat on me effortlessly and without any iota of shame. I only heard rumors that he was cheating on me. He was smart enough not to get caught. Luck somehow ran out for him when we went to a friend's birthday party. While the party was at its peak and people were dancing, he excused himself to go to the restroom. I noticed that the birthday celebrant had also disappeared. I didn't know what prompted me to follow him but what I saw broke me. Cynthia was sitting on the closed toilet seat in one of the men’s restrooms while my boyfriend knelt on one knee and was pumping hard into her. The only thing I could do was to yell at Ryan before finding my way home with tear-soaked eyes.

“Ugh! That's a huge weight you've been carrying all alone,” Lacie groaned softly after listening to my story.

“Yeah, I know, right?” I reply to Lacie, trying to hold back tears.

“Karen, believe me when I say that you're strong. I mean very, very strong,” Lacie praises me while rubbing her hand on my left shoulder. Looking intensely into my eyes, Lacie encourages me with her words. “You'll get through this. It's a phase and it'll pass, and you'll only get better!”

“Lacie, I know!” I reply, somehow feeling that I deserve someone better than Ryan.

“Shh!” Lacie coos softly with her index finger motioning at me to keep quiet. She leaves her seat and moves closer to me. “Karen, believe me when I say that everything will be fine soon. Let's keep looking at the brighter side of life.” Lacie ends her statement with a smile.

There is a silence between us now. There's something I'd love to tell Lacie but I don't actually know how to start. Or more like, I'm scared of being judged.

After the incident, Ryan apologized to me, but I knew he only did that because he was caught. The fact is that if I didn't catch him red-handed, he'd be denying it point-blank just like he always did. Deep inside I began to plan on revenge. I wished for an opportunity but unfortunately, none seemed to come. Guys automatically became extremely careful when they saw me around Ryan. But, I was ready to have some fun rather than get soaked in my disappointing relationship.

The opportunity seemed to present itself as Ryan celebrated his twenty-eighth birthday. He wanted a small indoor celebration where few friends would be invited. The party was on a Saturday night and I noticed that before the party ended, Ryan had drunk too much alcohol and his head couldn't really carry it any longer. As the party ended, all of his friends left except for one. Austin's car stalled as he tried to leave and with Ryan, I suggested that he stay for the night and have the car fixed in the morning. By the way, I never had any ulterior motive for asking him to stay. But then as we began to discuss things, the topic gradually drifted toward sex. I watch in excitement as his bulge becomes visible in his front trousers. The mere fact that Ryan was lying down fast asleep on the sofa made my panties wet.

As our conversation went further, Austin came over to where I sat and began to rub his hands gently on my shoulders. Austin continued to flirt with me and at some point carried me in his arms straight to my boyfriend's bedroom. It was sexual and erotic. Ryan never for once treated me like this and here was a total stranger treating me like some fucking goddess. Unfortunately, the door to the bedroom was locked and the key was with Ryan. I didn't want to go get the ke
y from Ryan in case I ruin the mood or lose out completely should Ryan wake up.

Still contemplating the next step to take while weighing my options, I could feel Austin pushing the back of my head slightly as I positioned myself in doggy style against the wall. In a swift motion, he pushed my thong down completely to my knee region while he penetrated me deep and fast. The truth is—I liked it. I was very horny and wanted Austin's dick as much as he wanted my pussy. I moaned out loud and I thrust my ass back against his dick while surrendering to a soul shouldering orgasm. From the way Austin was moaning, I knew that he was close to cumming.

Part of me was scared of Austin cumming inside of me while a part of me was excited about it. He wasn't wearing a condom. Like a cheap whore, I hold on firmly to the wall of my boyfriend's bathroom while his friend grabbed my waist and began to pump his dick faster and harder inside of my pussy. In a split second, I heard Austin let out a slight moan as he poured his hot seed into me. With his dick slipping out of my pussy, I could feel Austin's cum dripping down my legs. It was crazy, but this wasn't my kind of life. Immediately Austin left the sitting room to sleep, my conscience kept blaming me. After that day Austin kept trying his luck over and over again but I wasn't interested. I had to break up with Ryan because I couldn't keep up with his cheating ass.

“Karen!” Lacie calls out, bringing me back to reality.

I can't possibly tell Lacie about this part of my story. I force a sly smile as Lacie fixes her gaze at me trying to know what's on my mind.

“You’re acting strange since you started telling me about your relationship,” Lacie exclaimed with her face showing how curious she is at the moment. As a matter of fact, even while Lacie was still at The Starwatcher, she was really one concerned fellow. I know she won't let me rest if I keep acting up the way I did.

“Lacie, trust me I'm fine,” I try to assure her while faking a smile.

Looking at Lacie, she is silent and carrying a stern face.

“Lacie, I know you don't believe me. Come on, I'm fine. Actually, I was just lost in thought….”

“About what?” Before I could finish my statement, Lacie snaps in almost immediately.

“Baby, nothing in particular!” I try lying before covering it up by saying, “I'm sure I wasn't meant to be a bartender forever.”

My statement cracks Lacie up crazily. I watch as she laughs and gently slaps my shoulder.

“So, would you like to work at Getaway?” Lacie asks casually.

The whole question seems like a joke to me. Looking intensely at Lacie, I whisper softly, “You're kidding right?”

“No, I'm not,” Lacie replies instantly.

“Of course, you know the answer already,” I respond while trying hard not to jump for joy.

“No, I don't,” Lacie fires sarcastically at me while shifting away from my reach.

Well, Lacie couldn't go far from me as I jumped on her in a tight embrace. “Thank you, Lacie. I'm so grateful,” I exclaim emotionally.

As we continue to talk, Lacie assures me that she'll speak with Mr. Price Price and he'd help bring me to Getaway. With this, from a mere bartender, there's a possibility that I could be working for one of the best music record labels in LA. Well, I tried not to be so excited about the idea so I don't end up being too disappointed. But then, deep inside of me, I only wished that Lacie would keep her word.

  Chapter 2 - Steve

I'm a career man and all my life that's all I’ve been known for. As a matter of fact, the last ten years out of my thirty-one years on earth, all I did was serve as a sniper on Navy Seal Team 8. As a true American, that's the least I could do to show my patriotism to my country. I was born and brought up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At six-foot-two inches, I'm certain that my height can sweep any lady off her feet. Apparently, I'm handsome too with my short, black, military-style haircut. Due to the nature of my work, I'm not allowed to keep a beard so my chiseled chin is always cleanly shaven. In actuality, due to several years of training, my body is transformed and at the moment I have a body structure that one can refer to as a near-perfect body, if not perfect. Yet, for no real reason, I'm still single with no kids.

I had just returned from a tour a few days ago and was invited to see my commander for a debriefing. I'm curious about the essence of his invitation since I had no clue what he would probably say. Pausing a little bit, I breathe in before knocking on the commander's office door. I wait silently for his response. In a split second, I hear his hoarse voice say, “Come in!” and I open the door immediately moving into his office while shouting “Commander!” followed by a quick salute.

In the military, we are taught how to respond speedily to commands or face punishment. Personally, I got used to the whole system that most of the time every single word from a superior or senior officer seems like a direct command.

The commander also responds to my greeting as we salute in quick succession. I remained at attention until he said “At ease. Steve, come in. Take a seat, my son!”

As he finishes his statement, I move slightly closer to where he is sitting and reply, “Yes Sir!” while taking my seat opposite him at his desk.

“You really did a good job during this last tour,” the commander congratulates me by shaking my hand firmly. He pauses for a while so as to light his cigarette and then continues his statement. “In fact, your team did the job exactly as required.”

“Thank you, Sir!” I reply with a smiling face. Deep inside I'm happy. There's nothing that satisfies anyone more than getting to hear that their efforts are appreciated. Unfortunately, in my job, getting straight forward praise only comes once in a blue moon. That explains why I'm already basking in excitement.

There is a minute silence between the two of us as I watch the end of the cigarette glow bright red. In no time, a billow of smoke slowly smoldered at the far end of the cigarette. Again, the commander breaks the silence by saying, “I understand that the tour did not go as planned.”

At this point, I'm confused and don't understand what he meant by saying it didn't go as planned. For goodness sake, he just congratulated me a few minutes ago. “No Sir!” I reply firmly.

However, the commander still insists by asking, “Do you care to talk about it?”

Indeed, my level of patience is gradually getting exhausted by his annoying questions, but I try to be cool and reply as calmly as possible even though I'm fuming deep inside. “With all due respect Sir, not really.” I reply before I readjust myself on the seat and then add, “The job was done exactly how it should have been done. Most importantly, we all came back alive. As a matter of fact, I am more than happy to forget that hell hole.”

Looking at me intensely, the commander blows into the air a smoke ring and then exclaims, “Fair enough!” Pausing to take another puff, he says, “If you keep performing like this then in no time you'll be a Commander.”

I don’t even realize when I shout, “Yes, Sir!” almost immediately. The rigorous training in the military makes us respond subconsciously to statements and orders without a second thought. “That's my goal sir!” I add this time around, a little more softly.

“I guess you are indeed career-inclined. From your response I'm sure you want to climb all the ranks and hopefully retire with honor, right?” he asks, somehow fixing his gaze on me as if he wants to read my mind.

“Yes, Sir!” I reply with a smile before going ahead to add, “Nothing would make me happier!” After saying this, the Commander looks at me directly and then takes a puff of his cigarette. He breathes it out slowly and then flips through my file that’s open on his desk.

“I want you to take a week off. You need a little break. I see a fantastic future ahead of you, but I need your mind in the game. Go get drunk. Go get laid. Do whatever you have to do to unwind,” he said while smiling at me.

I don't understand clearly the condition for the break, so I mumble “Sir?” with a confused look. As the commander raises his head to listen to what I had to say,
he sees the confusion written all over my face. He goes ahead to explain what he said. “Steve, I know you're a strong soldier. But I’ve been in the game a lot longer than you so I know what I'm saying. Mental exhaustion can hit a man deeper than any bullet would. One mistake in a mission and you could end up dead. Trust me when I say that you need this break. Take a week and report back here next Monday.”

Pausing for a while to ascertain if I've taken in all he said, I nod my head and whisper, “Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.”

The commander then instructed, “I'd love you to have a deployment at the back of your mind while coming back.”

“Yes Sir! Thank you, Sir!” I respond with a smile while the Commander closes my file.

Folding his arms, the commander leans back against the chair he's sitting in and asks softly, “So Steve what are you going to do with your time off? I'm a little curious about it but then you don’t have to tell me of course.”

Well, at the moment I'm still very confused, so I turned to him with my right hand rubbing the back of my head, “I am not sure, Sir. It has been a long time since I had a break. I will figure something out,” I reply with a sternly face before pausing a little. “I'm pretty sure alcohol would help me think straight!” I joke with a small grin. I watch as the commander almost gets choked by the cigarette smoke because of my sarcastic statement. “Silly boy. Get out of here! See you in a week,” he replies and smiles at me while blowing another smoke ring into the air.
