“Can I open my eyes now?”

“No, just hold it and see if you can figure out what it is.”

She smiled even more as she let her hands explore it. Her brow furrowed as she tried to figure it out, but he could tell she was completely stumped. He pressed the remote and it started vibrating in her hand. Startled, she dropped it on the floor and opened her eyes wide.

“What the hell…” she picked it up off the floor and burst into boisterous laughter. “Oh Michael, you didn’t! How did you even get this past airport security?”

“It helps when the TSA agent is a woman.”

“Umm hmm. I’ll be it does.”

“The technology has improved considerably over the years. I can use this one near or far.”

Still giggling she asked, “What does that mean?”

He sat down next to her and whispered, “I can use this when we’re in the same room together, or when you’re back in Indianapolis working on your computer. I can activate it through a signal with your Internet connection.

  “Shut up! You’re kidding?”

  “No, I’m not.

“Oh my God!! I can’t…” she burst out laughing even more.

He loved seeing her laugh like that. It was natural joy overtaking her. Janine was laughing so hard tears were forming in her eyes. She was actually gasping for air while holding her sides.

As her laughter subsided he asked, “Do you want to try it out now?”

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t contain her curiosity. “Sure, why not? How do I put it on?”

“Hold on.” He washed it off in the kitchenette and returned to her. “Stand up,” he said. He lifted her maxi skirt and reached delicately into her panties. She squirmed a little as he placed the device against her clit, adjusting it so the small prong was inserted into her vagina. He then pulled her panties back up and let her skirt hem drop. “How does that feel?”

“I guess it’s okay.” She looked down clearly trying to determine if it was visible from outside her clothes. Then she adjusted it slightly.

He stealthily turned it on taking her by complete surprise. Her eyes widened as she shifted her stance to take in the sensation pulsing against her.

“So how does it feel now?” he asked watching every breath and twitch she made. He smiled devilishly as she tried to find her words to describe what she was experiencing and clearly enjoying. “Janine?” he toyed.

Finally she said, “I like it…a lot!”

“We’re going to have fun tonight,” he said mischievously. He watched as she shifted her weight from one leg to the other as if trying to find her balance. A few times she giggled as she fought to stand erect through the sensations. Occasionally she’d bend slightly at the waist shaking her head before biting her bottom lip. He could tell she was trying to pace her breath, but it was clearly getting increasingly difficult for her as the minutes passed. Through it all, she kept her eyes on his as if it would somehow anchor her.

Eventually, he stood up and kissed her deeply as the device continued vibrating against her clit and inside her. Ending the kiss, he held her closely while slowly swaying back and forth with her. He switched the remote to the next level increasing its speed and intensity. Her breath was getting heavier. He could feel her heart pounding against his chest. She let her head drop back and closed her eyes as she lost herself to the feeling. Jesus! Look at her, he thought as his penis began to swell. Still holding her, he could feel her body going limp. She opened her eyes fixing them on his as her body began to shudder in his grasp.

“Michael…” she whimpered as the mounting orgasm was beginning to peak.

“Go with it Baby,“ he said as her legs went completely weak and her body convulsed in his arms. It seemed to go on and on as she moaned several times as he held her. He slowly lowered her to the floor as the convulsions continued. When it seemed she was ebbing, he turned it off and raised the front of her skirt to pull her panties down to remove it. He unzipped his pants and slid his penis out of his briefs and entered her.

Oh my God! “Baby, you feel so good,” he whispered as he moved in and out of her. He didn’t think he could ever get enough of her.

She wrapped her arms and legs around him and with equal vigor giving more of herself to him. There weren’t words to describe how she felt wrapped around all of him. Together they writhed on the floor trying to take each other deeper, further and beyond. She arched her back, released her legs and planted her feet on the floor allowing him even greater access to her wondrous pussy. And then he felt it. Her pulsating walls were grabbing and releasing him from within. It was over. He couldn’t hold on or control any of this. He didn’t want to and he let go— giving everything he had inside to her.

They both lay quietly on the floor letting their natural breaths return to them. On top of her, he didn’t want to remove himself from her even though he was slowly slipping out.

“That was amazing,” she whispered. “Thank you for my present,” she said sheepishly.

“You’re welcome. And thank you for mine.” He kissed her before rolling off of her and laying next her on the floor.

She started giggling again and said, “Jesus! We haven’t even been together for an hour and look at us!”

“Why waste time?” he said chuckling.

  “Right…we’ve done enough of that.”

Understanding perfectly what she was alluding to, he turned to look at her curious if she had anything else to say on the subject. When she didn’t he simply said, “But we’re here now.”

  “And I couldn’t be happier.”

Michael couldn’t be happier either. They were finally together again. He stroked the side of her face, kissed her again and drew her close to him as he tried to make them both a little more comfortable on the floor.

“We probably should start getting ready to head over to Kelly and Jason’s,” she said softly.

  “Let’s skip it.”

“You’re kidding, right? They’re expecting us.”

“Only a little,” he said smiling.

She rolled on top of him resting her forearms on his chest and said, “It’s only for a couple of hours, Baby. We have the rest of the night, most of tomorrow and all day Sunday.”

“I’m feeling greedy,” he said while tightly gripping her behind and pressing her pelvis to his.

“Well, I promise you won’t go hungry.” She kissed him before straddling him with her knees on the floor. “But we need to get ready now.” She stood up and headed to the bathroom.

He sighed heavily knowing she was right. “You’re sure I can’t change your mind?” he shouted.

“You wanna explain why we didn’t come for dinner to a pregnant Kelly?” she shouted back.

“No. Probably not the best idea,” he laughed as he got up to join her.

  CHAPTER 25

“Oh my God! Look at you! Come in, come in!” Kelly was downright exuberant to see them. She hugged them both as best she could with the fullness of her belly limiting their contact. Michael thought she looked as if she would deliver the baby any day.

  “Hey girl!!”

Michael watched as Janine reached down and placed her hands delicately on Kelly’s belly. The bond between the two women was endearing to watch. Janine looked back at him simply smiling.

  “Hi, Kelly,” he said.

“Michael Josey! If you aren’t a sight for sore eyes! It’s so good to see you. Thanks again for the sweet gift you sent.”

“You’re welcome! You look terrific by the way. How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Thank you! I feel pretty good. But my feet swell with this one and I get tired a lot easier. Having babies at thirty-five is no joke!”

Kelly took them by the hand, looked at him, and then at Janine as a shit-eating grin spread across her plump face. There was little doubt in his mind Janine had shared details about their rekindled romance.

Kelly’s husband, real estate mogul Jason Rubenstein, made
his way towards them with a warm smile. He extended his hand, “Hi Michael. It’s good to see you again.”

“It’s nice to see you again too, Jason. Thanks for having us over,” he said as they shook hands.

Jason leaned in and kissed Janine warmly on the cheek saying, “Hi, Beautiful! It’s good to see you too. Kelly always beams when you come to visit!”

“Hi, Jason!” She hugged him tightly. It was apparent she developed a good relationship with Jason over the years.

“Can I get you two anything to drink?” he offered.

“A Bourbon neat would be nice. Thank you,” Michael said.

“Rum and coke, please,” Janine chimed in.

“Tonic and cranberry, Sweetheart?” Jason asked Kelly.

  “Sure Honey! Thank you!”

Jason headed towards the bar as Kelly led them to the living area. The view of Central Park from their penthouse was stunning. They all sat on the plush sofas while Janine and Kelly started talking about the baby shower. Jason and Michael exchanged knowing glances letting the women enjoy their time together. He was struck by how happy and settled Kelly seemed. She was always a lively personality, and a woman who flaunted her sexuality with as much panache as she did her intellect. But here she was, pregnant with her second child in two years. She seemed far more content than he remembered. It was as if she finally released whatever it was she thought she had to prove before life with Jason.

When they first met in law school, Kelly was a relentless flirt. He appreciated she had no trouble approaching men and making her desires known. But he always thought all her bluster was for show rather than an accurate reflection of who she truly was. But there was little doubt there was a lot of bluster to contend with, which immediately removed her from his consideration. If he hadn’t assessed her so quickly, he could have been easily seduced into fucking her—but not much else even though he liked her. As their friendship blossomed in law school, he knew he judged her far too harshly. Even watching her interact with Janine, he could see she was a woman perfectly content living this kind of life.

The fact Jason was able to see beyond Kelly’s bluster and woo her was intriguing. From all Janine had shared about her, it seemed Kelly really was a homebody. She was happy with someone she loved deeply and raising a family. Jason returned with the drinks handing Janine hers first before carefully handing off the other to Kelly. He went back to the bar to retrieve his and Michael’s before joining them all on the sofa.

“I’ll be so glad when this baby comes and I’m through nursing. I can’t wait until I can have a real cocktail again,” Kelly said.

“At the pace you’re going, that might be a while,” Janine teased.

“Oh, you got jokes! That’s all right Janine. I can’t wait until it’s your turn!” she giggled.

Although she tried to play it off, it was clear the little rub left Janine uncomfortable. But she smiled moving on to the next subject. Watching them, Michael found their entire interaction curious. He didn’t think her behavior reflected a lack of interest in parenthood, but there was no denying her hesitancy. It was also highly possible she was simply keenly aware of the challenges faced when women her age and older tried to conceive. Either way, it was a telling exchange.

Dinner was superb and the conversation ranged from light banter to politics. After dinner, the women went to off to the nursery to check on the sleeping thirteen month old. Meanwhile he and Jason headed out to the balcony for cigars continuing to talk about business and philanthropy. It was by far the longest conversation he had with Jason and he found that he genuinely liked him. He concluded he was a good guy—and the perfect man for Kelly Davis.

As pleasant as the evening was, he was ready to head back to the hotel because it was already after ten. His reunion with Janine was the only real reason he made the trip and he wanted to resume their previous activities.

“Should we head back in to check on the ladies?” Michael asked.

“Good idea,” Jason replied putting out his cigar. “It’s getting late. But those two can talk all night.”

  “Yeah they can,“ Michael acknowledged.

Jason led the way back inside and sat next to Kelly on the sofa armrest. He placed his hand on her shoulder gently rubbing it before saying, “How are you feeling, Honey?”

  “I’m good,” she said.

He looked down at her feet. “You’re swelling again.” He got up, sat on her opposite side and lifted her feet into his lap. He began rubbing her ankles and toes as Kelly moaned her pleasure. For a moment it was just the two of them gazing lovingly at one another.

Michael gave a knowing glance to Janine. It was time to go. She nodded agreement.

“It’s late. Thanks so much for having us over,” she said.

“No! You don’t have to go,” Kelly replied.

“We’ll see you tomorrow, Kelly. We both are pretty tired from our flights and you really should get some rest,” Michael added taking Janine’s hand.

Kelly smiled at him and quipped, “Well, I guess we all need to get to bed.” Kelly was a master at innuendos.

“Behave,” Janine replied before leaning over and kissing her on the cheek. Michael followed suit.

  “Janine, are you ready?”

  “Yes.”

Jason carefully lifted Kelly’s legs off his lap and walked them to the door with the last round of warm “good-nights” shared between them.

Michael continued holding her hand bringing it to his lips for a soft kiss as they rode the elevator to the lobby. She smiled warmly yet, there was something behind her smile that seemed unfamiliar.

“That was nice. Thanks for letting me tag along.”

“I’m glad you came with me.”

He couldn’t help but notice her mood was shifting. “Are you okay?”

“I’m okay. I guess. This pregnancy is taking a lot out of Kelly. I don’t remember the last baby being this hard on her,” she said with concern.

“That’s what Jason said. But you’d barely know it because she looks great.”

“Yeah, she does…and she wants another baby after this one.”

“Really?” He was genuinely surprised by the news.

“She feels like she has to do it now or it’ll be harder down the road.”

“It doesn’t seem like they’re having any trouble conceiving.”

“She’s lucky.” Janine remarked with a slightly somber tone.

  “You’re worried about her?”

“A little. She sees her doctor more frequently because she’s considered a risk…get this, due to ‘Advanced Maternal Age.’”

“It’s just a medical term. It doesn’t mean a lot other than paying a little more attention to her to make sure she and the baby are safe.”

“I don’t know…it’s weird. We’re only thirty-five and yet we’re considered old to be having babies.”

He couldn’t ignore the obvious. The little things he saw during interactions between her and Kelly now made sense. Of course she was happy for Kelly, but there was also some sadness and perhaps jealousy. “Is that something you’re worried about?”

  “I don’t know.”

“Sure you do. Do you want to have kids?”

“Of course, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen.”

  “Why do you say that?”

“Even if things go well for us this time, it’s not like we could have a baby anytime soon. So it’s out of the question.”

“Why?” It was a very curious thing for her to say. While he could guess why she made the comment, he wanted her to articulate her thoughts further. “If that’s something you want, why couldn’t we?”

“Seriously, Michael?” The look on her face was a mix of disbelief and annoyance.

  “Seriously. Why couldn’t we?”

“Because we’re no where near that place. What? We get pregnant and see each other when? We can barely work out seeing each other now. And I am not raising a baby alone. I know how hard it is.

Despite the sting of her words he said, “You wouldn’t have to, just come back to D.C.”

“Humph.” She turned looking out the cab window. In an instant, she had shut down the entire conversation. For the first time he couldn’t read her. She didn’t appear tense or angry. She was simply distant.

“Janine?” He took her hand and squeezed it tightly.

“I don’t want to talk about this anymore, okay?” she huffed.

The cab pulled in front of the hotel and she exited while he paid the cabbie. She seemed a bit anxious but was still fairly quiet as they walked inside the hotel together. Once inside their suite, Janine went to the bedroom and took off her clothes without another word. He followed her and sat on the end of the bed waiting for her to say something. He watched her put on an oversized tee shirt and wash up in the bathroom. When she came back, she simply tied up her hair before climbing into the bed laying her head on the pillow.

“Baby, what’s wrong? Talk to me,” he said moving to the side where she lay.

  “I’m just tired.”

He was frustrated as hell by her change in demeanor. “You’re not tired. You’re upset. And whatever it is, you need to talk to me about it.”

“And why would I be upset, Michael?” her sarcastic tone confirmed his concerns.

“I could guess, but you need to tell me. I don’t want to go to bed with… whatever the hell this is hanging over us.”

She let out a deep sigh and just stared at him. He didn’t want to play this game with her because as far as he was concerned they should have been well beyond the need for it. She needed to tell him.

“Why did you say, then come to D.C.?”

  “What?”

“When I told you I had no desire to raise a child on my own, you said ‘you don’t have to, just come back to D.C.’ Why did you say that?”

“Because I meant it,” he said trying to figure out what issue she was having with his remark.

“You don’t see anything wrong with that statement?”

“Frankly? No, I don’t. So why don’t you just tell me why it’s upset you so much.” He had almost forgotten how exasperating she could be when one of these moods struck her.
