Brook is a super cop capable of doing almost anything any other cop can do. Her focus is on the job and training after getting her heart broken by the one man she thought was her destiny. Bad guys better watch out!
When the job brings her together with her ex-lover Conan, she isn't sure this is going to go so well. She's heading for trouble, and the case they are working on brings danger to their doorsteps. Literally. It's one thing to feel lust, a connection and in the heat of danger, but another thing to actually make a commitment. She doesn't think these three men are capable of that, and being on her own she's not sure she really needs any man in her life and definitely not three like them. Then in the midst of danger and gunfire, the third brother, Kinchley, a member of SWAT, witnesses her capabilities and also assists in rescuing her and someone she saves. When the danger is over he kisses her with a desire and passion also shared like his brothers. What's a woman to do with three retired military hotties, seasoned, and experienced now in law enforcement, too, when they keep kissing her breathless and breaking down those walls around her heart? When push comes to shove and the bad guys seek revenge, Brook realizes she would do anything for their love, even die protecting them.

Prologue
Brook Logan was driving through Sussex County on the border of Mercy and Castings when the call came in over the police radio. As an investigator for the Sussex County sheriff’s department, she also helped out doing additional patrols during the busy season. It was July 15, hot, and the constant calls kept everyone busy. This was a little different than their usual traffic violations, car accidents, brawls, and assaults.
“Robbery in progress at 223 Smith and Colb Boulevard,” came over the radio. Smith and Clove? Brook thought. Crap, that’s a block away from where I am.
She didn’t switch on the sirens as she replied to the call.
“This is Investigator Logan. I’m on Bellings Drive, a block from that location. Responding now,” she said and stepped on the gas. She maneuvered through a little bit of traffic and then onto the side street as dispatch gave more information.
She listened as she realized she was the only one close enough to respond. Trooper Ranger Pencer was five minutes out, and as others from Mercy and Castings responded, they would arrive within five minutes. She knew she was lead. What she hadn’t expected as she came around the corner were three men, one holding a woman around the waist and shots being fired. Looked to her like they just robbed the jewelry store and perhaps that was an owner, she wasn’t sure. She came to a stop and jumped from the car, gun drawn.
“Stop! Police! Put down your weapons!” she yelled, and she could hear the sirens in the distance. The gunshots at her car hit the windshield and the doorframe as two of the men were coming toward her shooting. She hit one in the leg and the shoulder, then the next she thought she hit in the head but it was his ear. He was holding it and yelling, and she took the next shot hitting him in the leg to take him out of commission. At this point, numerous officers were skidding to a halt beside her cruiser, and the guy with the woman wasn’t budging. He was panicking.
“Remain still, ma’am,” Brook said, and then the guy hit the woman with his gun. She fell to the ground, and he started running.
“Stop!” Brook exclaimed and took off after him. She could hear her radio going off and more sirens blaring, and as she rounded the corner the guy went around she almost didn’t see him as he swung at her. She ducked and then came back at him. They struggled on the ground. “Give it up. You’re under arrest.”
“Fuck you!” he exclaimed and struck her body, but she had on a bullet-proof vest. It still hurt but enraged her more than anything, and as other cops came around the corner, flashlights on them, she made a martial arts move, twisted her leg over his, flipped him, and heard his scream of pain as she broke his ankle. The snap echoed as he hollered. She pulled his arms behind his back with Zayn and Ranger’s assistance, and then shoved him down.
“You broke my fucking ankle, bitch! That’s assault!” he yelled.
“You resisted arrest, attacked me, and I was defending myself, idiot. Your broken ankle is the least of your problems. You’re going to jail for a long time.”
“Fuck, it hurts!” He was crying as she tried to catch her breath. Zayn reached a hand out to her.
“Awesome job, Investigator Logan,” he said, and m
ore sirens were blaring in the background, paramedics arriving on the scene. It was chaos. This was going to be a lot of paperwork.
“How is the hostage, the woman? She okay?” Brook asked them. Other police were there now as well as some fellow deputies from Sussex.
“Paramedics are with her now. She took a good blow to the head. She was out cold when we checked with the other officers,” fellow deputy Carter Ross said to her. He gave her shoulder a squeeze. “You didn’t even give anyone time to assist you, Brook. All super woman as usual,” he teased.
“I was the closest and had no choice but to engage when they shot at me.”
“Yeah, your car isn’t drivable with that windshield out,” Deputy Yandi Flow added.
“No worries, I’ll be happy to give her a ride,” Carter said, eyeing her over. He was such a flirt.
The paramedics came over and started to look at the guy’s ankle.
“I won’t need one now, but later from the hospital. This guy isn’t going out of my sight.”
“The other two guys are already on their way to the hospital. We assigned two officers to accompany them,” Yandi told her.
She nodded and looked at the guy as paramedics got him onto the gurney and locked him to it so he couldn’t try to escape. He was raging still.
“Hey, it’s over. You’re done. Don’t make matters worse for yourself. Keep your mouth shut and let them do their job,” Zayn said to the guy, and he growled.
“Fuck you, and fuck her, too. Stupid bitch!”
Brook chuckled and shook her head.
“We can assign someone else to him,” Carter told her.
“Not necessary. He’s just pissed that he got caught.”
“Investigator Logan?” She heard the deep, loud voice and looked to see her boss, Sheriff Lancaster Hayes. The guys moved back a little as he approached.
He had a scowl on his face and she hoped he wasn’t pissed at her for screwing up another car. Although it wasn’t her fault at all.
“This is one hell of a mess, Logan,” he said to her and greeted the men around her.
“Sure is, but it turned out well, and we’re all safe and sound,” she replied.
He gave her the once over and then nodded. “Excellent work. I expect a full, detailed report on my desk by tomorrow morning. Make sure everything is perfect. I get the feeling this is going to turn into a situation, and we need to confirm force was necessary and Imminent.”
“Well, look at her fucking car and the hostage. That says more than enough,” Yandi stated and stood right next to her. There was camaraderie among cops in all departments and agencies. Brook proved her capabilities many times already.
“You know the deal, and the one guy is claiming assault and police brutality,” the sheriff told them.
“When we rounded the corner, he was on top of Brook, pounding away on her, and as we went to assist, she made one of her sick moves and twisted him around, broke his ankle, and subdued him. He continued to resist and rage as we helped get the cuffs on him. We’ll vouch for the entire scene,” Ranger Pence told him. Zayn nodded in agreement.
“Very good then. Let’s get it all wrapped up. I’ll have men follow through on the hostage. It wasn’t looking good from what Morton said,” the sheriff told her, and she felt terrible.
“Oh God, she might not make it?” she asked, shocked, yet she saw how hard the guy struck her with the butt of the gun.
The sheriff shook his head.
“Officer, we need to go,” the paramedic said.
“Let me grab my stuff from the car,” she said, and the sheriff nodded. She hurried to her vehicle for her things as they organized a tow truck coming, pictures were being taken of the scene and the gunshots to her vehicle. As she looked at the car, she was shocked. The entire windshield was blown out, the windows on the door frame and in the door had bullets in it, and she swallowed hard. It was a close call, but it was one for the good guys and zero for the bad guys. Now she hoped and prayed the hostage pulled through.

“What the fuck do you mean the store was robbed? Is your mom okay?” Conan O’Connor asked his friend Pete Gore.
“No, she isn’t. There were four men and one had her at gunpoint. The police arrived on scene, shot up the car, and gunfire was exchanged.”
“Was she shot?”
“No, Conan. Thank God, no, but the guy panicked, struck her in the back of the head with the butt of his gun, and took off running.”
Conan clenched his teeth. “Did they catch him?” he asked, hoping the cop that responded knew what the fuck he was doing.
“Sure did. All four sustained injuries and were caught.”
“Good. I’m on my way. I was heading home, so I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
“Thanks.”
Conan texted his brothers so they would know he would be late. He was very concerned. Pete was a good man, a good friend, and a great Marine. He was home between tours right now but looked to be heading out in a few weeks. His brothers were all active duty just like their three dads. He wondered if Pete called Rocky. Pete’s mom was Amanda’s cousin.
As he pulled into the parking lot at the hospital, he saw two deputy patrol cars from Sussex. He swallowed hard. Every time he saw one of those, he thought about Brook. That tight, painful feeling hit his heart and his gut. Two fucking years. She was so damn stubborn and wouldn’t hear him out. Wouldn’t believe his explanation or what really went down that night she thought he cheated on her. Fuck, and she took that transfer so damn fast his head had spun. He heard about her success in the department and her promotion to investigator. She was tough, as tough as they came, and capable. Her martial arts skills were off the charts. He shook his head. She hated him, and his brothers never got to meet her. He lost his fucking chance at the perfect woman, the one woman he loved.
He parked the car and got out. As he headed inside, he saw Rocky and Pete, plus two officers. One was a female, and from the back in the patrol uniform he recognized that ass, those straight shoulders, the updo that was all Brook, but why was she in uniform when she was an investigator?
He hugged them hello.
“How is she?” Conan asked, and Brook turned around, and he saw her shock, but she quickly narrowed her eyes and then looked at the other officer. The guy was a little taller than her. Brook was about five feet six inches tall. She looked gorgeous, and he felt like shit.
“There’s some bleeding in the brain, and they put her into an induced coma to help her heal. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, then they’ll have to go in to drain it. That will be really dangerous,” Pete told him, and he could see the emotions in his eyes. Then the door opened and his dads stepped out, they looked terrified and angry. Then they looked at Brook, and she caressed Frank’s shoulder as she spoke to him, and he nodded and they thanked her before she moved to the doorway where another officer was.
“That investigator in the sheriff’s department saved Mom’s life and caught all four men on her own. She shot three of them and wound up on the ground in a scuffle with the fourth and broke his ankle. They’re all here in the hospital and have police guarding them to make sure they don’t try to escape,” Pete said to Conan.
“That’s Brook Logan. She has some reputation on the job. Glad it was her that responded. She is badass and then some. Let me go talk to her,” Rocky said, and Conan was a bit shocked that Rocky knew her and also jealous. Although Rocky was only a few years older than Conan and hitting forty, he had been a Green Beret and was fit and likable. Women threw themselves at him all the time. He watched as Rocky hugged Brook hello and then kept an arm around her shoulder as he spoke to his cousin’s husbands about what was going on.
Conan walked over with Pete. When Brook looked at him as Pete introduced them, she nodded but didn’t reach her hand out to shake or even indicate that they knew one another. The last time he saw her, it was after she broke up with him, accused him of cheating on her, and they were drunk and almost wound up
in bed. She disappeared and warned him to stay away from her and that it was a mistake. He hadn’t been with a woman since. Came close, but he just couldn’t do it. He was in love with Brook. Wait until his brothers heard about this.

Brook couldn’t believe the connection here to Pete and Rocky and the woman who was held hostage. Then add in Conan of all people showing up and being great friends with these men, and holy shit, it shocked the hell out of her. Like literally drained her energy from her body and made her feel emotional. He looked so good. Sexy as sin, tall, six-foot-four, dark blonde hair in a crew cut, deep blue eyes, muscular build, and in the tight blue t-shirt he was sporting he was showing off those muscles big time. She swallowed hard, her pussy ached, her nipples hardened. She lusted for the man. Hell, she loved him, but he broke her heart. He cheated on her, and that destroyed her hope that he was the one for her.
“We appreciate what you’ve done, Brook. Dr. Miles is supposed to be the best, and we wouldn’t have been able to get him if it wasn’t for your phone call,” Corey, one of Pete’s dads, said to her.
“Dr. Miles is a good friend, and he’s the best at what he does. I’m certain your wife will pull through. Things are already looking better than an hour ago,” Brook said with the care, compassion, and empathy she always showed to people, especially victims. These men were good men, she could tell, and she was shocked to find out that Rocky was Amanda’s cousin. It was a small world. As the doctor approached, she walked away with Carter, who was heading back to assist the other officers guarding the criminals that were caught.
“I’ll meet you downstairs. When we’re done, maybe we’ll grab some grub, huh?” Carter said to her, and she knew that Conan listened. Carter was a retired Ranger in the military. Very good-looking and single, like her. She learned her lesson about getting involved with anyone on the job and in the same department, thanks to Conan.
