Soul Decisions
Page 17
“Everyone else here has a decision to make.” The leader of Aether announces.
“What will you choose to do next?” The leader of Abyssus adds. “Things will be done differently from here on out, but you all have a choice moving forward.”
Out of nowhere Cosima pushes her way to the front of the crowd. “I’ll go back to Aether just as soon as possible, please.” She practically demands as I arch an eyebrow in her general direction.
The leader of Abyssus smiles that mean smile again, “Why no, my dear, I do believe you’re mine now.”
All of the color drains from Cosima’s face as I notice someone who deserves a commendation lurking a little ways behind her. “Quetzal,” I whisper. “Come up here.”
Quetzal hears me, as have the leaders. I don’t have to explain as Quetzal approaches, the leaders seem to know all already, which is no surprise to me. They’re the leaders for a reason, after all.
“Quetzal, thank you.” The leader of Aether says. “Would you prefer to stay here on earth, or perhaps see Aether?”
Quetzal quickly responds. “No, thank you, but I’d just like to go home.”
The leader of Abyssus looks happy. “And home you shall go. For your assistance and loyalty you’ll serve under me now.” The look of pride on Quetzal’s face is immeasurable. “And this will be your new pet,” he motions to Cosima who begins to sputter, “enjoy.” With another snap of his fingers, they’re gone.
“We need but a few moments, and we’ll get to all of you.” The leader of Aether announces before turning to me. “Lettie, the three of us need a moment alone.”
It’s not like I can say no, and almost instantly I find myself alone on a nice beach with only the two of them.
To my surprise, it’s the leader of Abyssus who begins. “Lettie, we owe you much for what you’ve endured.” His voice is sincere and I can feel that he empathizes with my pain.
“You were robbed of something, Lettie—of someone—and we’d like to set that right.” The leader of Aether continues and I can’t believe my ears.
“Wait, you can do that?” I ask, almost unable to process it.
“We don’t advertise it, but yes, under certain circumstance...like this one.” The leader of Abyssus confirms.
My heart about bursts with joy. “Yes. Please yes. So much yes.” Tears fall freely down my face.
“It’s already done.” The leader of Aether smiles and pats my head.
I look down and gasp. Sure enough, my belly is back. My baby is back. I laugh and sob as so many emotions tear through me.
Both leaders take one of my hands. “This child is blessed, Lettie, by us both—much like you are.” The leader of Abyssus says.
“From this day, Lettie, I’ll handle Aether,”
“I’ll handle Abyssus,”
“And you’ll handle Earth.” The leader of Aether continues, “that is, if you want to?”
I consider it and an idea forms. “Yes, but may I make a request?”
“Of course,” they both say at almost the same time which makes me smile.
“This baby...I want them to always be protected...”
“But?” The leader of Aether coaxes.
“I want them to have a normal life.” I spit out and sniffle. “I don’t want them to have to worry about anything other than living, having a family, and being immensely happy.”
They both give me a look of approval. “Done,” the leader of Abyssus says.
“And should you ever change your mind, let us know.” The leader of Aether adds. “We do have some things to address, and much to rebuild.”
“Yes, and the matter of those who helped Elias here on Earth and have already fled.” The leader of Abyssus says. “They’ll need to be rounded up and extradited.”
I nod and smile. “I think I know a few people who’d be more than happy to help with that.” Jack and Cyrus come immediately to mind, paranormal bounty hunters seems like a killer fit for them, pun intended.
“Are you ready?” The leader of Aether asks and I nod.
Instantly we’re back. It takes me only a moment to find Gabe’s arms and he instantly notices. “How?” He asks.
“They said it never should’ve happened,” my eyes fill with tears again. Mom, Maddy, Shay, Jack, Max, and Cyrus surround us with hugs, tears, and relief.
Sometimes, just sometimes, everything turns out exactly the way it’s meant to...
1 year later
Gabe sits in his favorite recliner with Elliot asleep on his chest while I rock Magdalena asleep. Tomorrow we’ll have their baptism, something that seems important after everything. It’ll be nice to see everyone again.
It turns out the whole time I had everything backwards. I truly am a mix of good and evil, angel and fallen angel. Now my biological father rots in a frozen lake for eternity, while my mother is the ambassador between all realms (along with Maddy, and they rock that shit.)
Max and Shay have been enjoying their (ever oddly glamourous) normalcy and we see them constantly. They both absolutely adore being uncles, and we never mind their help because twins really do mean twice the work.
Jack and Cyrus have been thoroughly enjoying themselves as both paranormal bounty hunters. Believe it or not, they stole Kortney from me, too. Well, Cyrus did. The two met for the first time shortly after Kortney returned home last year and their connection was instant. It works out because she keeps them organized for me and my photography at this point is strictly gallery. There’s just no time for events with the twins, which is fine by me. I get the best of both worlds.
All of the others who’d desired to return to their home realm or dimension shortly after Elias was captured, but a few decided to stick around and help also. With the leaders of Vitamartis on one page, things there have been running smoothly.
Things have been quiet since that day, but after the last couple of years, I’ll take all the quiet I can get and look forward to more still.
Everyone every day makes many choices. Some are small and innocuous, while others... not so much. Some choices are big and scary and intimidating. Some are even life-changing. If I’ve learned anything it’s to listen to that voice inside my heart. The one that churns my gut when it knows something isn’t right. Trust in that inner voice, and trust in yourself, and your decisions will never fail you.
