Drake, Vane’s got Gregoire. Did you get the others?

Good. Just got Sander, he’s the last. Taking them to the Earth compound now. Send me the visual of where you are and we will help get the others.

She did as he asked and sank to the ground next to Uri. She was worn through. No way would she be able to teleport them all. Vane set Gregoire on the other side of Alex so she was between them. He was again giving what little healing he was able to Gregoire just as he’d done for Sirena and Bastian.

Drake and others came a split second later, and Havoc release a growl and steady stream of fire at Drake’s feet before Alex realized she had not warned the Hellhound of their arrival. Jax chuckled.

“Damn it, you little bastard.” Drake’s loud voice boomed under the trees, but he didn’t kill the animal. Havoc proceeded to sit at Uri’s feet and stare at Drake.

“Sorry, I should have warned him that you were coming.” Alex explained apologetically. Havoc hadn’t aimed to kill and didn’t do anything to the others. She had a feeling the hound had better senses than they had imagined.

“We will discuss how you got here when we get to the Earth compound.” Drake’s voice was filled with the authority he’d carried for centuries. He gently lifted Sirena, and Alex saw pain blanketing his features as he assessed the damage wrought on the Healer’s body. Then, he was gone.

  Chapter 34

Uri was scowling as he lay in the infirmary below the ground, sucking in as much energy as he was able to force his cells to take, willing his broken bones to knit faster. He fucking hated being laid out. It helped that the others were in just as bad a shape. Though that thought made him a surly ass.

The bed shook, and he looked to his mate curled softly into his side, like a sleepy kitten. “I have to agree. That totally makes you a surly ass.” She laughed out loud as she lifted her sapphire eyes to his, they were filled with good humor and he loved her for it. She’d been cuddling up with him, taking in energy that her body had desperately needed.

When he had awoken in that bed the night before, in complete agony, he’d felt how depleted her energies were. He’d felt her beside him on the bed, just a small lump next to him, but not touching him. He’d demanded to know what had happened and why she was diminished. He remembered her slumberous blue gaze meeting his as she groggily said, “Go back to sleep until you aren’t grumpy.” Then, she had closed her eyes and fallen asleep while his mouth was still open. Just snuggled into her pillow and was out. He had seen Havoc curled onto the couch next to the wall, snoring, and Uri hadn’t a clue what the fuck had happened.

Pained chuckles had come from his left and he turned his head, “Shit, it hurts to laugh. But that was fucking funny.” Gregoire was on another bed they had obviously brought into the room, as it barely fit. His brother had looked to be in much the same condition as Uri had felt. He had scowled at the other Guardian before tucking Alex into his aching side. He had needed her soft warmth, even if it did hurt like hell.

But now, he was still not completely healed and it had been an entire night. He would get up and test his knitted bones in an hour, no later. Alex was still chuckling, the sexy sound wiped away some of his annoyance at being injured. He grinned down at her beautiful face and asked, “Are you feeling better now, Rambo?”

Her eyes glittered in amusement, “Much. Thanks. Guess that means someone told you what happened?

“Drake and your brother have both been here. We hear eight of us were taken down and you and your brother came in guns blazing. I have full intentions of spanking your ass red for that shit.” He still couldn’t believe eight were taken down. That was unprecedented, and the reason the three of them were in that damn room.

“What, what did I do?” She looked at him, a cute furrow between her brows, but her body heated against his when he spoke of her punishment. He would need to find something that she didn’t like so damn much.

“You kept going until you were too depleted to do more. It was dangerous. Vane could have gone in to get Gregoire’s sorry ass out.” They both looked over at Gregoire, who shook his head.

“I do appreciate your worrying for me, little one. But if you were mine, a spanking would be the least of your worries.” Gregoire said, but Uri saw his brother’s affection for Alex reflected in the softening of his eyes.

Uri shook his head when she looked ready to deny being at risk. “Don’t even try. I’ve spoken to Drake and your brother.” He said the last as a whisper against her silky lips. He felt her rush of breath as he took her mouth in a leisurely exploration. The fact that they were on Earth and would have to go back to Tetartos soon was far from his thoughts. He didn’t care where they lived. He would make her happy anywhere; they would build a house of their own on Tetartos. He would bring her shoes. She would be happy.

She stiffened in his arms. That was when he felt it. The odd compulsion that was one her knowing’s. It was the same sensation that had distracted him while at Cynthia’s facility. Damn, they needed to get the Tetartos. He looked into her beautiful sapphire eyes and saw that he was correct.

  Chapter 35

Gregoire stood on the bluff that overlooked both the sea and the vast stretch of meadows with a big lake further off. His head ached, his body still not completely healed. He had needed to see her. He couldn’t shake the feeling that it was time. But she was still so fucking young. He rubbed his shortened goatee. He had been running in his other form. Needed to work out his newly knitted bones.

Everything was changing. Alex and Uri were mated. Their ceremony had done something to him.

He had always kept his distance, watching over her from afar, never chancing that they’d scent each other. It had been the longest decades of his life. But he didn’t think he could leave her any longer. It wasn’t safe to give her more time. Seeing her now, as she ran through the meadows, brought him a glimmer of peace that had always eluded him in the past. She exuded grace and tranquility as she glided across the field. She was small and fast. He was faster. He shook his head. He also had needs she would be too innocent, too pure to understand. Fuck. He couldn’t force himself to look away. To leave. There was nothing more beautiful than the sight of her running with such wild abandon. Her sun kissed skin glistening in the light while her long chestnut hair billowed behind her. She was frustrated, or angry, he wasn’t sure. Even from the great distance he saw that her brows were creased and he didn’t like it. He felt a muscle in his jaw twitch. If anyone had upset her, they would pay.

The time to claim her was here. He had already hidden her for far longer than he should have.

  About Setta Jay

The sad truth is that I’m not nearly as entertaining as fiction. I am a thirty-six year old stay at home writer, thanks to my incredibly supportive husband. We’ve been together for twelve years and I still love waking up next to that sexy man. We lost our furry child recently, so we are childless at the moment. Our whole world revolved around her. Needless to say, I love animals, especially dogs. Okay, maybe not all animals, I’m not a super big fan of monkeys. Any animal that throws their feces kind of eeks me out. I may, or may not, have a problem with candy. I love any research that leads to Neiman Marcus’ online shoe department. Spreadsheets give me way more happiness than they should. I love to read, the dirtier the better. It all started with the naughty historical romances by Judith McNaught that I devoured as a teenager. I love reading about hot, sexy alpha males and heroines that are smart enough to live.
