But was he? What if he wasn’t? Then what?

Erick tried to dash away the tears that started spilling down his cheeks before Cassidy saw them. Though he couldn’t hide the fact he’d gone soft.

“Oh, Erick. No. What’s…? Here.” Cassidy grabbed a tissue from the box next to the sofa.

Wiping his tears and blowing his nose, Erick sniffed. He couldn’t even stay hard. God, that’s pathetic. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t cry. It’s going to be all right.” Cassidy tried to reassure him.

He couldn’t deny the truth. “I want to be your mate so badly. I’m terrified I’m not, and now I can’t even keep an erection.”

Cassidy kissed his knees one at a time. “I want you to be my mate too. And you’re my mate whether or not you are in zombie terms. You’re mine. We just need to surrender to fate and hope destiny smiles on us.”

With the kilt still in place, Cassidy ducked underneath the fabric. He shifted Erick toward the edge of the sofa and peeled his silk down so the waist elastic rested below his balls.

Unhurried, long, wet licks flicked across his embarrassingly limp dick, again and again. Cassidy’s tongue caused Erick’s brain to short circuit. He simply allowed the incredible sensation to overwhelm him.

Cassidy flipped the kilt back, which provided Erick with a view of the amorous and satisfied expression Cassidy wore. He blew a hot breath over Erick.

“I guess that’s the blow part?” Erick shivered.

Cassidy grinned and went back to lashing his tongue along Erick’s shaft, which started to straighten and lengthen with the sensuous licks. Once Cassidy reached the top, he teased quick flicks around the crown.

Not knowing what to do with the building effect Cassidy had on him, Erick squirmed helplessly against the sofa. He wanted to savor the pleasure, but his body tried to rush to a finish. Was it too soon for him to come?

“I’m going to taste you.” Cassidy dabbed his tongue at the drop that appeared from Erick’s slit. He groaned when he made contact, giving Erick hope.

  “Oh my God,” Erick moaned.

His dick disappeared into Cassidy’s mouth. Cassidy did a slow slide to the root, and when he got there, he sucked until he made Erick’s eyes cross.

Erick dug his nails into the armrest, but the cushion did nothing to help his control. Awash in unfamiliar, all-encompassing need, he didn’t know what to do. He wanted everything and could do nothing but let Cassidy’s mouth work him.

Cassidy slipped his hands under each of Erick’s palms and laced their fingers together. Cassidy appeared to have no trouble deep throating Erick, and he never took his gaze off him as he sucked, hollowing his cheeks.

Erick’s legs tightened. He dug his heels into the cushioned throw rug. His body began to thrust, following the rhythm set by Cassidy’s bobbing, sucking, beautiful mouth.

Wrapping a hand around his cock, Cassidy pulled off and said, “I love you. I will always need you… whatever happens.”

Those words rolled over onto themselves. Cassidy enveloped his erection again, and sweetly sucked his shaft.

That was it! Ecstasy radiated out from Erick’s core, waves much stronger than anything he’d ever felt when alone.

“Cassidy… love you.” Erick came. He tried to stay conscious and aware to see if he was Cassidy’s mate, but he wasn’t—

“Erick! I’m—” Cassidy choked as he fell straight back to the floor and twitched.

Was he having a seizure? No, Cassidy’s moans were pure pleasure. He was coming!

Erick joined him on the floor. He rubbed his hand along Cassidy’s shaft through his leather pants to give him as much stimulation as possible.

Cassidy groaned and trembled and thrust until he gave a long-winded sigh. He fell limp.

Staring at where the wet spot should have been, Erick tried to reassure himself Cassidy had come. Leather might not show…. Did that mean—

Cassidy opened his eyes and tightened an arm around Erick. “See? Told you you’re mine.”

“Really?” All the tension that had coiled sprung, making tears leak from the corners of Erick’s eyes.

“Yeah. Really.” Cassidy swiped a thumb under Erick’s eyes.

“Will you have a harem, a la Ethan style?”

Cassidy chuckled. “Nope. I’m not that high-maintenance.”

“Good, ’cause I am, and I want all of you just for me.”

“Can you help me out of these pants? I think I ruined them.”

  Storm Rages

“Oh God, just like that.” Cassidy gasped. He lifted his head off the pillow to watch.

Erick slid his full red lips up and down Cassidy’s long-neglected cock. The steady rhythm, combined with suction, made thinking near impossible. Dragging his mouth off, Erick teased his tongue around the crown.

Good Lord! All the practice the last few hours allowed let Erick develop some totally awe-inspiring skills at sucking him off. Damn.

Those taunting little licks were powerful and should be used with care. Then Erick swiped his tongue over the tip. Cassidy changed his mind—his beloved mate should use his newly learned tricks all the time on him.

Granted, Erick appeared determined to keep his promise about giving Cassidy all the orgasms he’d been denied. While decades worth of blowjobs would be incredible to receive, perhaps maybe not all at once.

Enveloping Cassidy’s cock in his mouth again, Erick gazed at him. Glee sparkled in his eyes as he grinned around Cassidy’s cock and continued to suck.

Mine! He was born for Cassidy.

Soon this would be more than a splendid way to get off or a reaffirmation of their feelings for each other. After the exchange, sucking each other would provide the other with what they needed to survive. To nurture someone in this way….

The love threatening to burst Cassidy’s heart expanded even more. The last bit of his loneliness vanished, replaced by a sense of belonging and rightness. Erick had been destined to be his mate, and he’d do anything to make him happy and protect him.

Something heated sparkled in Erick’s gaze. He moaned with his own pleasure as he doubled his suck speed.

“Sweet God! Erick!” Cassidy fell back on his pillow. A wave of ecstasy hit, making him come hard.

Erick swallowed around him as he stroked. He took all Cassidy released.

Soft sucks brought Cassidy back to earth. As he caught his breath, he smiled at Erick, who appeared determined to get every drop and leave him spit-shined.

Cassidy pushed the hair out of Erick’s eyes. “You’re incredible.”

Pulling back, Erick wiped his lips with the back of his hand and gave him a sinful grin. “Good.”

How could Cassidy have gotten so lucky? “I’ve created a monster.”

“No, just thirsty for you.” The little flirt smirked and batted his eyelashes. “Isn’t that what zombies need?”

Cassidy snorted. “I’d argue this is what everyone needs.”

Erick crawled his way to the pillows and loomed over Cassidy. “How many sucks till I become a zombie?”

“The question is, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?” Cassidy’s true age showed.

Rolling his eyes at the early ’70s commercial reference, Erick dropped to the bed. “No, seriously, am I a zombie now? ’Cause I don’t feel different.”

There wasn’t even a suggestion of concern edging his voice.

“Um, no, you’re not a zombie yet,” Cassidy reassured him.

“What?” Erick tsked. His eyes went wide. “But I am your mate, right? Zombie mate….”

“Absolutely.” Cassidy pulled him into a long kiss, tasting himself on Erick’s lips, confirming once again this wasn’t wishful thinking.

Erick ended the sweet kiss. “If I’m your mate… I thought I became a zombie too, and then we’d always be together.”

“You do and you will.” Cassidy paused. Everything had happened so fast… too fast. “There’s a
small blood exchange.”

“Well, let’s do that. Hey, does that mean we’re part vampire? Will I sparkle? I totally want to glitter—”

Attempting to glare, Cassidy could do little more than not giggle as he tried to give Erick a small frown. “I see we need to educate you in the vampire classics.”

“Cassidy!” Erick huffed with a pout. He tilted his head. “Come on, bite me.”

Cassidy traced his fingers along Erick’s tempting neck and murmured, “And for the record, you already do sparkle.”

  “I’m serious.”

“Surely you can’t be serious… Yes, I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley.” Never able to resist such a perfect setup for an Airplane movie reference. Cassidy held out his hand to shake.

Erick playfully batted Cassidy’s hand away. “Oh my God! Your ’80s are continuing to show.”

Cassidy laughed as the weight of his life continued to be lifted off his shoulders by sharing the world with Erick.

Erick studied him and then folded his arms across his chest. “How come you don’t want to do the exchange?”

What a trick question. He wanted to lock this shit down. Put a ring on it. Do the exchange six times to make sure everything worked. But first he needed to make sure Erick was ready and able to make this commitment.

“Erick, I want nothing more. But everything is happening so fast. We should probably slow down and talk to someone.”

Erick snapped his fingers. “Right! The doctor.”

“Him too. Though I’m thinking of your brother.”

“For what?” Erick leaned away and shook his head.

How did he explain this? “Your brother can make sure you understand what you’re getting into. This decision will affect you long-term, as in an eternity-style.”

Erick grinned and rubbed his hands together. “I’m good with it. Let’s do this.”

Cassidy sighed. He needed to protect Erick. “I am too, but I want to do this… right.”

Maybe he was being silly, but he needed Erick to understand all he’d be giving up to be with him. Cassidy needed to be sure Erick entered into the exchange with full knowledge. “There are a lot of decisions you need to make.”

“The only important thing is I’m your mate.”

Cassidy would start with a simple one. “Your college.”

Erick sat upright. “I don’t want to be away from you. I can drop out of—”

“Absolutely not.” No fucking way. Cassidy wouldn’t impact his mate’s life in such a negative way.

  “What?” Erick’s mouth hung open.

Cassidy fluffed Erick’s pillow. “I never got to go to school, and there’s no way I’d ever take that away from you.”

  “But how—”

“That’s why I want to figure everything out.” Cassidy tugged him into a kiss that went from cuddly to sexy in ten seconds flat. The love and lust zipping through him might be the mating pull, but why waste the heat? “We’re going to be ready for the exchange, but in the meantime, I see something’s come up.”

Erick’s giggle sounded deliciously filthy. “You don’t say.”

Cassidy grinned as he trailed his mouth down Erick’s stomach. “Oh, I do say.”

He leaned over Erick’s middle and swallowed him with an ease that came from way too much practice. Though he was shamefully proud his mouth could make Erick whimper and beg so prettily.

  “Please. Cassidy!”

In the last few hours, he’d been reminded how totally incredible blowjobs were to give and receive. God, he loved sucking off Erick. Those little wheezing, out-of-control noises Erick made when he couldn’t stop from losing control. Overwhelming his mate fed Cassidy’s ego, but more emotions flooded him. He enjoyed pleasing his lover, and for the first time in decades, that felt important.

Cassidy licked his finger and circled Erick’s hole.

Erick spread his legs and thrust his butt out, inviting Cassidy to do more. He asked with his body but never demanded, and that made all the difference in the world to Cassidy.

He ducked lower to lick Erick’s hole for the first time.

“Oh, aw,” Erick murmured as he clutched at the bedding.

Cassidy had forgotten how he enjoyed rimming. He flicked his tongue, making Erick wet enough so a finger could slide in.

Erick sighed as if he’d gotten something that had always been missing.

Even though Cassidy’s cock tried to respond to give Erick something really worth enjoying, that wasn’t happening for another few minutes, mate pull or not. Cassidy opted to trail his lips along Erick’s shaft until he got to the tip. He swiped his tongue, collecting Erick’s sweetness. Then he sucked him back into his mouth.

He followed Erick’s shifting movements and moans to find the right rhythm. Giving inward pressure with his finger, Cassidy teased and sucked stronger, bringing Erick right to the trembling edge of orgasm.

“Cassidy….” Erick’s tender fingers combed through Cassidy’s hair. His body shook.

Not wanting to make Erick wait too long for his pleasure, Cassidy pushed his finger inside a little more and bobbed his head faster. He hollowed his cheeks and sucked as he lashed his tongue over Erick.

Erick froze. Then he groaned, rocking his hips forward. He pulsed his delicious essence into Cassidy’s mouth.

Cassidy swallowed and licked him clean, appreciating all of the wonderful gifts Erick gave him.

  “Why, you son of a—”

Maybe Cassidy should have talked Erick out of popping over to Storm’s apartment and springing the mating news on him.

“Storm.” Alex wrapped Storm in a tight restraining hug that kept him from leaping at Cassidy. “Listen to what your brother is saying.”

Storm growled but went limp in Alex’s arms.

“Please, come on in.” Alex invited him as if it were a normal occurrence to imprison one of his mates within his ironclad embrace.

“Thank you.” Cassidy kept his voice even and shut the door behind them.

Storm squirmed as if he had a hope of actually getting loose. “I’m going to—”

“Cassidy is my mate. You’ll do absolutely nothing to him, or I’ll take you apart.” Erick’s voice rang with pride, making Cassidy want to do a happy dance.

Cassidy finally had his mate! No matter how many times he confirmed he had a mate aloud, he couldn’t fit the fact into his brain. His heart might burst open with the fullness of love. Even his broken soul, which Erick already started to piece back together, would heal during the exchange.

Hell, even now with Storm wanting to rip off his head, Cassidy couldn’t be happier. After all these miserable years, he could begin living his life. But he needed to do everything right. All issues needed to be resolved first so nothing could stand in their way.

Erick needed to be fully content with his life, so he could make an informed decision about the commitment they’d be making to each other. Coming to terms with his brother needed to be an important piece of that. He wanted Erick to have the support of his brother through this decision-making process. This meant Storm needed to not only tolerate but understand and truly accept Erick’s nonbinariness. Was that a word?

Erick ended his brotherly staring contest with “Cassidy’s mine.”

“You two are mates? That’s great.” Ulrich stumbled into the room, coming to an abrupt stop. He glanced between Erick and a grumbling Storm, who still glared at Cassidy. “Um, right?”

Cutter bumped into Ulrich. “Erick, you’re Cassidy’s mate?”

“Yeah.” Erick stepped back, as if his brother’s best friend and mate might have accosted him.

“I’m so happy for you.” Cutter lunged, hugging Erick to him. Then he yanked Cassidy into the embrace. “You’re both very lucky, finding such terrific guys.”

Storm shrugged Alex off. “Ha! Guys! You’d never know it the way Erick’s dressed.”

“Storm!” Alex’s tone put some bite into his name, but apart from a moment’s he
sitation, the stern tone didn’t seem to affect Storm.

Erick touched the pale pink hoodie and black yoga pants he’d borrowed from Cassidy.

Cutter covered his own mouth for a second. “I’m sorry, Erick. I didn’t mean—”

Focusing his attention on Cut, Erick gave him a small smile. “It’s cool. I haven’t claimed any other pronouns. You’re fine, but your best friend and mate is an asshole.”

  Tap! Tap! Tap!

“I asked the doctor to meet us here.” Cassidy answered the question on everyone’s face. He grabbed Erick’s hand and kissed the palm. God, he hoped the doctor’s soothing presence could bring some calm into the situation.

“Good idea… I guess.” Erick huffed out a breath in a way that said he wasn’t quite convinced but would remain open to the possibility.

Ulrich opened the door. “Come on in, Doc. Oh hey, Robert.”

The nurse smiled, giving everyone a wave, and then grabbed Cassidy’s hand. “Congrats, man.”

“Thanks.” Cassidy shook Robert’s hand while clasping his other hand onto Robert’s elbow. He felt all kinds of manly.

“You waited a long time for a mate, but worth it, right?” Robert didn’t even try to pull his gaze from the doctor.

“Most definitely.” Cassidy didn’t want to open Robert’s can of crazy since he had a roomful of his own. Was the doctor oblivious to the chaos swirling between him and his nurse?

“Congratulations, Cassidy and Erick,” Doc said with a warm smile.

“Let’s go have a seat.” Cutter guided everyone to the couches and sofas.

Erick sat as close to Cassidy as he could without being on his lap.

The doctor took the lone chair and studied Cassidy and Erick. “You haven’t done the exchange yet.”

“Um, no.” Cassidy wasn’t going to deny it. Why couldn’t he shake off this feeling that he wasn’t worthy of a mate?

Erick folded his arms and glowered at Storm. “Not yet. Cassidy wanted me to speak to my brother for some reason.”

Doc nodded. “It’s always a good idea to take some time before making a big decision.”

Erick turned and stared at him with a dreaminess that had Cassidy tripping over his heart. “I’m ready right now.”
