Impossible Things (Star Shadow #2)

“Yeah,” Benji added, “and it helps that we were friends first. I could always tell him anything before, and now I still can.”

“That’s incredible,” Nick said supportively. “It must be a bit of a negotiation, having two pairs of couples in your band. How does Max feel about all this?”

Benji laughed, and found it came out so much more natural than he’d ever thought. “Like the odd one out, I think, but we try to keep it professional.”

“Most of the time, anyway,” Diego added with a sly grin.

“Is there anything else you’d like to say to your fans?” Nick asked.

Benji and Diego had debated for long hours with Craig about whether they should mention either Sophie or Vicky, knowing that they might get some pushback after this interview was published. In the end, they’d decided to go with a blanket statement, encompassing not only their ex-wives, but Ana as well.

“I just hope,” Diego said, his hand tightening over Benji’s, “our older fans and our newer ones can respect our families at this time. Being honest was important to both of us, even though telling the truth can be really tough. It wasn’t easy for us to make it to this place, but that difficulty only makes our relationship more meaningful.”

“Things that are worth it are never easy,” Benji echoed. Benji knew he’d get shit from Leo from using his line during his coming-out interview, but it felt right. After all, Caleb and Leo had led the way first.

In that moment, the ten years they’d been friends didn’t seem as much of a waste as he’d always believed. He and Diego had been building toward this from the very first moment they’d locked eyes in Leo’s house, Benji not in search of a keyboard player and Diego not wanting to join that lame band of his friend’s. In the end, Benji thought as he brushed a kiss across Diego’s cheek, they were both right where they needed to be.

  Right next to each other.

  STAR SHADOW WILL RETURN.

  Acknowledgements

I’m going to be really honest. Benji and Diego were a beast to write. They didn’t want to cooperate with me, but then how could that have surprised me? They hadn’t cooperated with each other for so long. But when I finally figured out how to get them to talk to me, there were a few people who were fantastic resources while I was writing:

Angela, you are a treasure, and your encouragement and friendship means the world to me. Nicole, always my favorite cheerleader. It warmed my heart that you loved Benji as much I did. As always my other beta readers are invaluable to me: Amy, Carra, Libbi, and Louise. I could not write books without you guys.

Cate, from Cate Ashwood Designs, designed such a fantastically beautiful cover, as well as a perfect logo for Star Shadow.

Judy, from Judy’s Proofreading, always makes sure my words are clear and understandable.

Lastly, I do not own the “Violet” lyrics I used in this book. You might have guessed, but yes, they are adapted from “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee.
