One thing did occur to him—when he finally totally won over Holly, he did want to have a proper mating ceremony. He grinned at the thought, and tried not to consider the fact that she’d be dead long before him, unless he was killed in the line of duty.
He’d deal with that when the time came. Right now, he simply wanted to enjoy his new life, one day at a time, and live in the moment, appreciating the blessings he’d been given.
Kissing Holly’s head, he picked her up.
“Come on, sleepyhead,” he whispered.
She laced her arms around his neck and laid her cheek against his shoulder.
“I love you, Justice,” she murmured.
He smiled, letting the words sink in. Happiness and peace rolled through him, and he held on to the moment until he had to tuck her in.
“I love you, too,” he whispered.
