The Black Widow Clique

“You sound like you had a long night last night,” his smooth voice said through the phone.

I blushed because he knew that he was part of the reason why my night had been so long. After shooting pool for a few hours with the clique and drinking more than I should have, I had decided that it was time for me to head home. I had grabbed my things and was heading up to Cowboy’s guest room when I saw the notification button on my cell blinking. Besides the Google alerts I had set up for potential marks, I had a few missed calls and text messages from Lover Boy. I bit my bottom lip and moaned at the dick pics he’d sent me. It had been a few hours since his ass pulled me behind that backdrop at the charity event, and my hot ass was ready for more. As I looked at the pics, my mouth watered and my pussy thumped, just thinking about feeling him inside both holes.

When I tried to call him back, I became a little upset when he didn’t pick up the phone and sent me straight to voice mail. I was two seconds away from cussing him out when I received a text from him telling me to come outside. I was so excited when I read that message that I practically ran out of Cowboy’s spot.

As soon as I walked out the front door and across the lawn, a black stretch limo pulled up in front of me and the back door swung open. Not only was I greeted by one of the sexiest men I’d ever seen—still wearing his custom fitted tuxedo and smelling like all kinds of new money—but also the smell of that good Cali Kush was in the air, and I was so ready to hit the blunt a few times and go back to his place. Safe to say, we never made it to his spot. We fucked in the back of the limo while we rode around the city for hours. Dawn was slowly creeping up when he dropped me back off at Cowboy’s house and I hopped in my car to go home.

“I did have a long night. I probably would’ve been in my bed at a reasonable time had someone not wanted to fuck the shit out of me in the back of the limo.”

I could hear him smiling through the phone. “Hey, I wanted to take you to my house, but I couldn’t resist. I told you your smell is alluring and intoxicating to me.” He laughed. “I am kind of bummed we never made it back to my place, though. I really wanted to christen a few rooms there since we’ve already christened every inch of your place.”

“Because when we just meet up at my house, it doesn’t complicate things. Well, at least not for me.”

He yawned into the phone. “What do you mean?”

“Well, you know that I’m not the relationship type of girl. To me, when you start spending the night at each other’s houses, those nights start to turn into days, then into weeks at a time. That shit starts to mean something other than just fucking after a while. You’re starting to want to spend time with that person in their element to see how they live. You start to study people’s patterns and begin to adapt to their ways. When we just stick to coming to my house, we only see one way . . . and that’s mine. We drink, we smoke, we fuck, and then you go on your way. Now, a couple of times I have slipped up and let you stay the night, even cooked your ass breakfast a time or two, but it won’t happen again.”

  He laughed. “It won’t?”

“Hell naw. Why do you think after the limo dropped me back off at my car, I didn’t follow you home, like you wanted? I was not about to spend the whole night with you, and I was not about to start up this whole ritual of cooking you breakfast in the morning,” I said, laughing when my line beeped. I looked at my phone screen to see who was calling me on my other line. When a number I didn’t recognize popped up, I kept on with my conversation.

“What if I want you to make me some breakfast right now?” he asked.

“Your ass would be out of luck.”

“Really? You wouldn’t feed me anything?”

I thought about it for a second and was just about to answer when there was a knock on my door.

“Hold on one minute. Someone’s at my door,” I said into the phone.

Not waiting for his response, I placed my phone on my dresser, then went to my door. I looked through the peephole and couldn’t see anything, because the person who was on the other side of the door had their finger covering it. There was only one person who did that. Melonee’s ass. What the hell was she doing here if she was supposed to be dealing with Roman? I swung the door open, expecting to see her gray eyes grilling the hell out of me, but was surprised by someone else instead.

  “What the fuck—”

He cut me off as he marched past me into the living room. “I told you I was hungry. You was gone let me starve?”

“See, this that shit I was just talking about. Only people in relationships pop up at someone’s house like this.”

Lover Boy pulled me to him and cradled his nose in my neck. I could feel the long breaths he was taking as he inhaled my scent.

  “Damn, you smell so good.”

“I always do, according to you. Now, what do you want?” I said, pushing him off me, but not really wanting to be out of his grasp.

“I told you that I was hungry, and damn it, I’m about to eat.” He licked his lips as he looked my body up and down. The small T-shirt I had on left nothing to the imagination, and my pantyless ass was on full display.

“Meyers, if you don’t go somewhere else . . . You just fucked the shit out of me a few hours ago. You should be tired or at least on E right now,” I said, looking down at his semi-hard dick.

“Who said anything about fucking you? I said I was hungry. Now, feed me willingly, or I will be forced to take it.”

I wanted to say something smart, but I stopped when my phone started going off. I could tell by the Star Wars ringtone that it was Cowboy.

“Unless you want them to hear you screaming my name, I advise you not to answer that,” Meyers said as he backed me into my bedroom and over to the bed, where I fell on top of my orthopedic mattress.

As soon as my ass hit the sheets, my legs parted, giving him all the access he needed to dive right into his breakfast and eat it up.

“Fuck!” I moaned when his lips latched onto my pearl and began to suck as if his life depended on it.

I came so hard and so fast, I almost blacked out from the impact. I knew his face had to be covered in my juices with the way that orgasm just hit me. I was looking down to watch him handle his business when our eyes connected. There was something about that penetrating gaze that had me ready to forget about being all about my money and to give this love thing a chance. Maybe what Melonee had said about quitting after this job and getting into a real relationship for a change could be a good thing.

Naw. Who am I kidding? Dick and a hurricane tongue will never have me breaking my rules. However, I can bend them for the time being, I thought.

I started to roll my hips as he continued to dine on this fine cuisine. The feeling of another orgasm hitting started to build in my stomach, but it was knocked back when my phone rang again. Cowboy was calling for the fifth time now, and I needed to answer the call, because it had to be important.

“Baby . . . ,” I called out, but my utterance fell on deaf ears. It was like Lover Boy was in a trance and wasn’t trying to hear shit I was saying.

I tried to scoot back a little to get his attention, but I only got pulled back down to his open mouth and his arms put my thighs in a choke hold.

“Baby . . . ,” I said, moaning this time, because the figure eights he was doing with his tongue had my heart rate picking up.

“I already told you, whoever that is will hear you calling my name if you answer,” he said in one breath before he buried his face back in my pussy.

I came for the second time but quickly got over the high when Cowboy called my phone again.

“This better be important,” I said between gritted teeth as I answered the phone.

“Fee, whatever it is you’re doing, you need to get to the hospital ASAP,” Cowboy said quickly.

“Hospital?” I said, trying to sit up, only to get knocked back down. “Fuck,” I mouthed to myself as I came again.

  “It’s Mel. She . . . Man, it’s al
l bad. Just get your ass to Cedars-Sinai and call me when you’re downstairs,” Cowboy rushed to say before hanging the phone up in my face.

  Hospital? What the fuck?

I managed to hop up this time and liberate myself from Lover Boy’s grasp. I headed to the bathroom.

“What are you doing? I wasn’t finished with my meal,” Meyers protested.

Ignoring him, I entered the bathroom, turned on the shower, and hopped in. The water was cold as hell, but I needed something to calm my hot ass down. Had Cowboy not called to say that Mel was in the hospital, I probably would be riding Lover Boy’s dick right now.

“I have to get to the hospital,” I said after I hopped out of the shower, dried off, and started pulling something to wear out of my drawers.

“Is everything okay?” he asked, grabbing my shaking hands and pulling me into his embrace.

“I don’t know. My brother just called and said that my best friend is in the hospital and I need to get there.”

“Did he say if she was okay?” he asked as I put on some clothes.

“I don’t know what’s going on. I hope she’s okay. I should’ve fucking called her last night, like I told myself to. If anything serious is wrong with her, I’ll never forgive myself,” I said as I walked to the front of my house in search of my keys and purse.

“Maybe you should let me drive you,” he said as he followed behind me.

I looked at him like he was crazy. “We are not in a relationship. That right there is something people in a relationship would offer to do. I can drive myself, thank you,” I said. I opened the front door and held it open for him to walk out.

“So when am I going to see you again?” he said as he walked out the door.

I walked past him and headed straight for my car. “You know where to find me, so we will see,” I called over my shoulder.

I got in my car and didn’t even wait to see if he had made it to his before I pulled off and headed toward the hospital. I said a silent prayer and prayed that nothing really bad had happened to my best friend. I didn’t think I could stand seeing Madison or Granny dealing with this if it was bad.

“Damn it. I should’ve listened to my dad,” I said aloud to myself as I sped down the freeway.

  Melonee

  Three months later ...

Blinking my eyes a few times, I tried to raise my arm to block the bright lights that were shining in my face, but I stopped when a sharp pain shot through my entire body.

“Don’t move, baby. Let me go get the doctor,” I heard my granny say, but I couldn’t quite focus my eyes on her face.

With blurry vision, I scanned the room but still couldn’t quite make out where I was. I tried to speak but wasn’t able to due to the tube that was lodged in my throat. Fear instantly gripped my body, and I started to move around wildly.

“Mel, be still, baby,” a familiar voice said to me as the person to whom it belonged firmly planted his hands on my shoulders to stop me from moving so much. “You’re only going to make it worse if you keep twisting around so much. I know you’re scared right now because you don’t know where you are, but try to be still until Granny comes back with the doctor so that he can check you out.”

I could feel the water start to build up in my eyes as my vision became clearer. When my eyes focused on Proof’s face, tears seemed to continuously roll down the side of my face and into my ear.

I tried to speak again but couldn’t. Proof handed me a dry-erase board and a marker so I would have some way to communicate.

Seeing him here and hearing my granny’s voice had so many thoughts running through my head. I could tell now that I was in some hospital, but I hadn’t the faintest idea why. I turned my head to the side and could see all sorts of flower bouquets and “Get well soon” balloons spread throughout the room. Some you could tell had been here for days or weeks, while others looked like they had just been brought in. The TV, which was muted, was on The Wendy Williams Show, which told me that Fiona was somewhere in the vicinity.

When I focused my eyes back on Proof, I couldn’t really read the expression on his face, nor could I stop looking at his wild facial hair.

I pressed the marker against the dry-erase board and managed to write one word, although it hurt like hell to write it.

  Madison?

Proof squinted his eyes, then mouthed what I had written. “She’s with my parents right now.” He looked down at his phone to see the time. “I actually gotta go pick her up in about thirty minutes. Then I’m going to bring her back up here to see you.”

A feeling of relief washed over me. I didn’t know why I was here, but at least my baby was all right.

Where am I? I wrote underneath Madison’s name.

“You’re at the hospital. Well, you’ve been in the hospital for a little while now. Do you remember why you’re here?”

As I erased the board with the sheet that was lying over my legs, I tried to remember what I had done last night, but I couldn’t remember anything. I could feel Proof’s eyes watching me carefully as I began to write on the board again.

  What happened?

The way Proof looked at me, then wiped his hand over his face as he shook his head, told me that whatever the story was, it wasn’t going to be good.

“Why don’t you wait until Granny and the doctor get back to ask that question?” he said. “It might be better if you hear it from one of them.”

Hear it from one of them? I said to myself. What could have possibly happened to me that was so bad that he didn’t want to tell me himself? Maybe hearing it from my granny or the doctor was a good thing, so I pushed that question to the back of my head and decided to ask another one. Hopefully, he would be able to answer this one and wouldn’t need someone else to.

How long have I been here?

Proof was just about to open his mouth when my granny walked back into the room, followed by a nice-looking Indian man who reminded me of the dude who played Suresh on that TV show Heroes.

“We’ll take it from here, Jaylen. You need to go pick up my other baby and bring her back up here so that she can spend some time with her mother now that she’s awake,” my granny said. Then she placed her hand on Proof’s shoulder and whispered something in his ear. He looked at me with sorrow in his eyes, then turned around and left the room.

The Indian dude, who I was assuming was my doctor, checked my vitals, then wrote some things down on my charts. After checking my eyes and reflexes, he sat on the edge of my bed, then looked down and read what I had written on the dry-erase board.

“Nice to finally see you awake, Ms. Reid. You had us scared for a minute when you first got here,” he told me.

I looked down at the board on my lap, and he followed my line of sight.

“Do you remember anything that happened to you?” he asked.

  I shook my head no.

“Do you remember the last thing you ate?”

I thought about it, then shook my head no again.

“What about the last person you were sexually active with?” he said.

My eyes opened wide, then darted to my granny. She stood at the foot of my bed, with tears in her eyes and her hands covering her mouth. I could see that she was tightly gripping the white handkerchief she always carried in her purse.

I shook my head, and I could tell that the doctor was confused about this by the way his eyebrows furrowed.

“Are you saying you don’t remember or . . . ,” he said.

I lifted the dry-erase board and wrote on it.

  Over a year since sex.

The doctor and my granny exchanged a look, then turned their attention back to me.

“So you haven’t had sex with anyone in the past three months that you can remember?” the doctor asked.

I pointed to the last thing I had written on the dry-erase board and looked at this doctor like he was dumb. I knew who I had slept with last, but for some reason, it felt like this doctor knew something I didn’t.<

My eyes traveled back to my granny before I wrote another question. This one was directed to her, and I hoped she would just answer it.

  What’s going on?

I didn’t know what was wrong about what I had written, but as soon as my granny read my question, she broke down in tears. Her sobbing was so loud and heart wrenching that I started to cry myself. All the monitors that were hooked up to me started to go crazy, which caused a few nurses to run into the room.

“We’re fine,” the doctor said. “I’m in here. If we need anything, or should Ms. Reid slip back into a coma, I’ll call you.”

The nurses nodded their heads, then walked right back out.

Coma? Did he just say, “Slip back into”? I wondered. I could hear that my granny was still crying, but I now needed answers. How long was I in a coma, and how in the hell did I get into one?

“I can tell by the different expressions on your face that you have a lot of questions running through your mind. Before I begin to answer those questions for you, though, let me remove the tube from your mouth and get you some water, because your throat is going to be really dry.” The doctor rose up from my bed and paged one of the nurses. “Now, this may hurt for a second or two, but everything will be fine. Take a deep breath on the count of three, okay? One . . . two . . . three.”

I wanted to scream when he pulled that long-ass tube out of my throat, but I couldn’t. After coughing for what felt like two hours, I drank a few sips of water from a cup with a straw, which the blond nurse who had come back in to assist held for me. Then I laid my head back down on the pillow. My throat was a little sore; however, my comfort level was better. My voice came out a little hoarse when I spoke, but the doctor told me that in a day or two, it would be back to normal.

“Now, Ms. Reid, to answer some of your questions. You’ve been in a coma for the past ninety days. The morning you were brought in, we didn’t know if you were going to make it or not. You suffered extensive internal bleeding as well as head injuries.”
