Her eyes were glued to it. What did all this mean?
"Despite all the drama, can you forgive me, believe in me and marry me?" Jake begged on a ragged whisper.
"Jake, this is alot. The woman, the baby..." She whispered back. "What did you think when she told you about the baby?" Suddenly hoping he might clue her in on how he felt about babies in general.
"That you were and are, the only woman I want them with." Jake answered, honestly shone from his eyes.
Sadie slowly took the ring out of the box and said "I'll marry you."
He grabbed her up and next thing she knew she was on his lap and he was sitting on the couch.
"Oh God, I don't deserve you! I love you so much and I don't ever want to be apart! I will never lie to you babe. I just want a future with you." He swore to her.
Feeling much better than she had in many, many days she actually smiled at him.
Jake continued, "I hate that house and now its tainted by that whore of a woman. I want us to find something else more suited to us with a ton of bedrooms so we can get married and fill those rooms with our babies. What do you think?"
"Well, I'm certainly glad you think that way." She grabbed his hand and placed it over her stomach. "We kinda got a head start on that project so we better make haste in the marriage and house."
His eyes about popped out of his head. Shaking his head, disbelievingly, he stuttered, "Sadie? When, wha..."
Laughing, she said "I had about the same reaction. I finally figured out it was that one time in the begining, in the shower. I went the to doctor for birth control and she told me it was too late!"
"Then you had to encounter that bitch! I'm so sorry Sadie!" He apologized.
"So your OK about the baby?" She asked surprised.
"Oh, I'm thrilled! I'm going to call my real estate lady right now!"
"Umm, how about later...we have some time to make up for and I need your attention at the moment!" She pulled his head down and he didn't end up calling until the next day...
Epilogue
"Hey, gorgeous!" Jake called to his wife from the shower.
"I don't feel gorgeous! Jake...I think we may have a problem..." Sadie said with a pain filled moan. Jake wrenched off the water and got out and grabbed a towel.
"What is it? Sadie, whats wrong?" He rushed to her. She was doubled over, arms over her huge belly. A huge puddle of water at her feet. Catching her breath she said,
"Well, my back has been killing me since this morning and I thought we had more time..."
"Oh my God, your in labor and didn't say anything!" Jake said, freaking out. He lifted her up in his arms and rushed to the bed. He started towards the door, then doubled back and frankly didn't know where to go or what to do.
"Ambulance!" Jake said to himself.
"Well, I know first babies can take forever so I just rode through it and now I think its too late for the hospital! Jake!" She wailed. He was already dialing 9-1-1.
"Please state your emergency." The woman operator asked. Sadie let out another moan.
"My wife is in labor, she thought we had more time so she didn't tell me and then when I was getting out of the shower she was in so much pain she peed herself!" Jake said, not thinking clearly.
"Jake! You’re an idiot. I did NOT pee myself! My waters broke! You went to the classes...Ohhh there's another one!"
"Sorry babe!" He turned his focus back to the operator and gave his name and address.
"I'm sending an ambulance but it sounds like her contractions are pretty close together." The operator informed. Jake had never felt so much fear in his life!
"Oh the pressure! Jake, that means it's close, tell them about the pressure!" Sadie panted.
"Mr. Kilgore, listen to me carefully. I need you to check her, don't hang up, just set the phone down and examine your wife please, I will hold. Then tell me what you see."
Bracing himself, Jake did as she asked, putting her on speaker phone.
"Oh my god! I can see the head!" He yelled towards the phone.
"First baby huh? Stay calm, tell her to bear down with the next contraction and soon your going to have to catch your baby. The paramedics are about a minute away." The operator instructed him calmly.
Sadie actually, besides her pain, looked more calm than him!
"You son of a b--" She said then pushed.
"Your doing great, babe." Two pushes and he was holding is very angry baby girl.
"Now that's a great sounding set of lungs! Congratulations Mr & Mrs Kilgore. Ive instructed the EMT's to go on in. Mr Kilgore, hand the baby off to mama and go direct them where to go."
Jake gingerly laced the squalling baby into her arms and watched his wife fall head over heels in love just like he did upon first glance of their tiny miracle.
"Oh Jake, look what we did.." She looked up at him, tired and tears in the corners of her eyes.
"We did a good job baby. I love you." Jake said, realizing he too had tears in his eyes.
