Playing with Fire

  “Did he wear a condom?”

“Yes,” she replied, lifting her chin to see him. “Of course.”

“Good.” He maneuvered her toward the back wall. “I have always worn a condom. Always.”

She felt the smooth cool steel of the refrigerator against her back. He stepped back and quickly undid his belt and the zipper to his pants, shoving them down. Her jaw slackened as his long, hard cock sprang free. His hands pushed her dress over her hips and found the edge of her panties.

“Bessie,” he murmured. “I have always worn a condom.”

The panties were torn from her and he moved closer, his hands going to her armpits and lifting her so their hips were level. Her hands caught his shoulders as her legs wrapped around his waist.

  “Until now,” he told her.

The mushroom head of his cock probed at her pussy. Pressing with his chest to hold her against the built-in fridge, one of his hands went under her ass and the other to his dick. Guiding himself to her folds, his mouth nuzzled her neck, holding himself just inside her.

“I’m going to fuck you as if there’s no tomorrow,” he vowed.

His words stunned her even as he thrust inside her. She gasped but had little time to think. The first instinct of her legs was to open for his penetration. Her body slipped slightly and her hands scrabbled to keep her where she was. It was hard to get a grip on him because he was already pulling out, then driving fully back into her.

With his right hand at her ass, his left hand went to the back of her neck, tangling in her hair and tugging her head to where he wanted it.

“Mine,” he growled with a possessiveness that astonished her.

And enflamed her. This was the feeling Alice had described when she’d told of how she felt when Tre was with her. Hot, protected, cherished, wanted.

  “Please,” she whispered.

“Please what?” he smiled down at her.

She licked her lips, hesitating at the words, then blurted them out.

“Fuck me,” she pleaded. “Fuck me as if our lives depend on it.”

  “Abso-fucking-lutely,” he agreed.

His mouth took hers and his tongue matched his cock’s stroking in and out of her pussy. Bessie managed to get her arms around his wide shoulders and held on. She couldn’t do anything. Wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. All she could do was take all of him, relish and savor the hard length that pounded in and out of her as if he had to reach every part of her insides.

Something switched on inside her and her hands turned to claws on his back.

“More,” she whispered. “Harder. More, Chance. God, please more.”

“You got it, baby,” he panted as sweat covered them both. “God, you’re so damn tight. And hot. Can’t get enough of you.”

“I’m going to tear your back to ribbons,” she suddenly realized.

“My mark on you will be more visible,” he told her, putting his mouth to her neck.

With a sigh, she let her head fall to the side, even though she knew he was putting a hickey on her, publicly claiming her. Not giving a damn that she’d have to walk through the party upstairs with all the guests knowing what they’d done, that she’d…

“Oh, God, please,” she whispered. “Yes…”

On the inward stroke, his pelvic bone hit her clit and she gasped.

“Chance, I’m close again. The fire…the fire’s pulling me in.”

“Tighten around me,” he told her, teeth grazing her jaw. “Tighten those sugar walls around my cock. Squeeze me hard, baby.”

She closed her eyes and focused on that part of her. He groaned.

“Oh yes, that’s it, baby. Hold me tight.”

Stroke in and out. In and out. In and… Her world exploded. She felt every muscle in her body jerk and spasm, then collapsed in his arms. He pulled nearly out of her and then hammered into her several times.

She trembled as he filled her pussy with his long cock. God, she would swear he’d hit her cervix. Faster, harder, then he drove into her, pinning her against the metal door and letting his head fall back with a shout. She gasped, feeling the hot rush of his release.

“Oh my God,” she breathed. “Oh God, Chance.”

His mouth sucked at her neck again.

“Damn, you’re so hot, baby,” he growled. “So damn hot.”

“You didn’t…” Her mind spun at the realization. “Didn’t wear a rubber.”

“I told you I wasn’t,” he reminded her, trailing hot kisses up to her mouth. “I’m clean and I’ll figure you are since it was only that once.”

Now she trembled. Catching on that something was bothering her, he frowned then smiled.

  “Are you ovulating, Bess? Hmm?”

“It’s about…about that time,” she whispered, nodding. “Oh my God.”

“Good,” he told her, wrapping his arms around her. “Mine.”

  Chapter Four

The room spun and Bessie let out a little scream.

“Shh,” Chance murmured, stroking her hair. “It’s all right, baby.”

They were in her office. Against the wall. Both naked.

Both sweaty and his cock was in her pussy.

“What…what just happened?” she gasped, looking around and seeing the pale yellow light near her desk. “We were at Terence’s party and then…” She shook her head. “But I went down to the cellar with him, not you and…” Tears filled her eyes. “I barely got away from him when he…when he…”

The hand in her hair griped her head and tilted it.

  “When he…”

The first tears slipping from the corners of her eyes.

“No one would help me,” she whispered. “Not even you.”

“I should have,” he told her, cradling her close. “I’m sorry I didn’t, baby. More sorry than I can tell you. Every man in that room is less of a man because none of us did anything when we could all see what he was doing and that you didn’t want any part of it.”

Sniffling and blinking back the tears, she nodded. His fingers massaged her neck.

“Did you want what we did? Did you want how I touched you? Did you want how I fucked you?”

She stared up at him in wonder.

“Did it…did it really happen though?”

He turned his head to look over his shoulder at Allura.

  “Did it?”

Yes. You have two memories of that night now. There is the one everyone has and the one just the two of you have. Both are real. That is why you’ve both been behaving the way you have. You knew something was not quite right but not what. I couldn’t let you know at first.

“Who are you?” Bessie exclaimed, dismay in her voice. “Why…why did you do that to us?”

Chance’s head whipped around to look at her.

“You don’t like what happened? I could have sworn you enjoyed it every bit as much as I did. And you just said…”

Bessie trembled, a hand over her mouth as tears filled her eyes.

His expression suddenly grim and withdrawn, Chance eased his cock out of her and set her feet on the ground. Something was very wrong. Bessie had enjoyed the sex. She had said so in the cellar. He’d made sure of it. So why was she now acting as if she hadn’t?

In a heartbeat, they were both dressed again. Even as Chance stepped back from her, he could see the tears flooding her eyes. He reached for her, but she pushed past him. Snatching up her purse and coat she fled the room.

He took a couple steps after her but paused as all the pieces suddenly came together in a horrifying picture. Terence had taken her down to the wine cellar and nearly… Furious, Chance bore down on Allura.

“The electricity wasn’t weird that night. That was you changing things. Each of those flashes came when someone moved to help her. Keeping me from going to her. That was you, wasn’t it? Putting her in harm’s way, wasn’t it?”

It was an unusual series of events.

“Bessie nearly got raped by that asshole,”
Chance growled. “You changed what happened that night.” He swung away, pacing the length of the office. “There is no way in hell I would have let something happen to her. Neither would Tre or any of her family. We would have done something. Stopped him. And you,” he turned and strode back down toward her. “You kept us from helping her.”

She got away. She’s very resourceful.

“She shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place. What the hell kind of game are you playing?”

A dark blue light appeared at the door.

That is a very good question. A bass voice filled his mind. Allura. What are you doing?

I did it again. There was a smug defiance to her tone. He wants her, Barden. He wanted to possess her. To fuck her. He regretted not taking care of her earlier, and I made it possible for him to do so. She wanted it as well. She had to feel the difference between helplessness, saving herself, and being with him.

“Then why the hell did she just run out of here like that?” Chance demanded.

He could almost feel the pity radiating from her even as the blue light reached out a beam, caught her, and pulled her to him. The yellow form twisted to look at him.

Think of her words. The last words between you in the wine cellar.

You need to think of what I’ll do to you this time as punishment. The bass rumbled. I had no idea one female could cause this much trouble.

“You don’t know much about females, do you?” Chance had to sneer at him. “Last words in the…” His voice drifted. “Holy shit,” he breathed. “She’s pregnant. With my baby.”

You’re much smarter than Tre was. That’s two now, Barden.

“Shut up,” Chance muttered, grabbing his coat from where it had fallen on the floor near Allura. He shoved his arms into the sleeves. “You put her at risk. You played with fire and she nearly got burned. I don’t care what your reasons were, I don’t like it. Stay the hell away from Bessie. And, Barden, I hope you punish her good.”

I will do what I want with my female, human male.

He has her! Allura pale yellow flared and she turned toward the door as if she would go to the rescue. The man from the wine cellar has her. He’ll hurt her again.

“No fucking way,” Chance vowed, opening the door and racing for the stairs. “Not this time.”

He took the steps two at a time, nearly running over a couple heading up.

  “Rude!” the woman exclaimed.

  “These people from California…”

Catching the newel post and swinging down the next flight, Chance ignored the insult he was sure would follow. More people scattered out of his way and he burst out onto the street. There was no sign of her. He hadn’t been that far behind her, had he? She couldn’t have gotten more than a few buildings from hers so…

His eyes narrowed as he recognized a luxury sedan in front of the building to the left. It rocked slightly and shadows came up from the back. Two people were in the back seat and one definitely did not want to be there. There was a muffled scream. A small fist came up and whacked the blonde head. Sprinting, he yanked at the handle and opened the door.

“Fucker,” Chance muttered, bending down and reaching in. “You fucking asshole.”

He pulled the mayor out, glimpsing Bessie’s torn blouse and the scratches on her breasts. The need to pulverize took over and he couldn’t control it.

“Get your hands off of me!” Terence shouted as Chance threw him away from the car. A couple walking by jumped back as the mayor stumbled and spun about in front of them. “Someone call the police. He’s assaulting me.”

“Oh, yeah? Like you weren’t trying to rape Bessie just now?” Chance growled, fists forming at his sides as he strode after the other man. “Like you tried the night of your party in the wine cellar?”

“She wanted it,” he insisted, hands outstretched as he searched the faces around them.

  “Never,” Bessie protested.

Chance glanced back to see her standing just out of the car, holding onto the top of the door. Her neatly braided hair was undone, pulled to the side as if it had been used to get her into the car. She was holding her jacket up to cover herself where her blouse had been torn. A crowd was gathering. Some people looked like they were on their cell phones. Others held them up, clearly recording the altercation.

“She was practically begging for it. You saw how she was dressed. The shoes she was wearing—”

“Bullshit, you fucking bastard.” Chance stalked forward.

  “She’s a slut and…”

Chance’s fists flew hard and fast as he pounded at the other man’s face and torso. The blows were so hard that they sent the mayor reeling backward on the cobblestone sidewalk as he weakly tried to bring his arms up to protect his face. Pinned against the brick wall of the building as Chance pummeled at his ribs, Terence gasped for help. But Chance’s ire had built up and he was letting it out. All he could think of was Bessie helpless with this man, nearly raped earlier and again just now.

  “Chance.”

Her soft voice, a light hand on his left bicep, brought him back to sanity.

“Chance, enough,” she whispered, tugging at his sleeve.

“She wanted it then and now,” Terence gasped out. “She came up to me and—”

“No, she didn’t,” Chance countered, although he let Bessie pull him away.

He turned toward her, wrapping his arms around her and drawing her to him.

  “Are you okay, baby?”

“I’m okay,” she told him, shock and wonder in her voice. “You came after me.”

“Damn straight,” he replied, cradling her head to his chest with his left hand while his right stroked her back. “I’m not making the same mistake twice.”

“She wanted it,” Terence told the crowd, pushing himself to his feet but having to hold onto the wall. “This was totally unprovoked.”

“Bullshit,” retorted Bessie as she lifted her head and smiled up at the man holding her close. “This was a man protecting the woman pregnant with his baby,” she announced, before turning to look at the bloody faced man. “Perhaps I should thank you, Terence. Because if you hadn’t acted the way you had three weeks ago, then Chance wouldn’t have made his move to make sure I knew who was the better man.” She smiled slightly. “In every way possible.”

  Chance chuckled and kissed her.

“Mmm, flattery won’t get you out of a spanking,” he whispered in her ear, sending shivers of anticipation through her. “Running out on me, naughty girl.”

She wrapped her arms around his waist. “I needed to know you’d come after me this time.”

A slight growl came from him before he kissed her so thoroughly that a few people in the crowd around them applauded.

“Get a room,” someone called out with a laugh.

With a smile, Chance raised his head and helped her get her jacket on.

“Excellent idea,” he acknowledged, wrapping an arm around her waist and tucking her against his side. “My room is just up the street.”

They made their way through the people, several of whom caught their hands to congratulate them.

“Chance?” she whispered once they were clear of the crowd and walking down the sidewalk.

  “Yes, sweetheart?”

“You can’t spank me in your room.”

“Baby, don’t even try to tell me what I can or cannot do when you’re a bad girl or—”

“Someone could hear me,” she told him, smiling up at him. “And they probably wouldn’t understand.”

He grinned down at her, a gleam in his eyes. She remembered it from the wine cellar and felt a shiver of anticipation race up and down her spine. “Then I’ll have to gag that hot little mouth of yours before I put you over my knee. Understand?”

Even as her pussy tightened, she nodded, swallowing. He put his mouth to her ear.

“You have the perfect heart-shaped ass, baby. Just perfect.”

  She melted against him, read
y for him to take her right there on the street. A white sedan came around the corner, lights whirling on top.

“I think spankings and everything else will have to wait,” she sighed.

The police car pulled up beside them and the passenger was out in a heartbeat.

“Bessie, what…” Her oldest brother’s eyes took in her disheveled clothes and scratches. “Sonuvabitch.”

“Chance didn’t do it,” she said quickly to head off him going after the wrong man. Her brother was very protective of his family. And she was his baby sister. She caught the eye of the other officer who understood and started coming around the car. “He saved me from Terence.”

Adam nodded. “We got a call about an attack on the mayor.”

“He started it,” Bessie told him. “Chance and I had an argument in my office. I got upset and I left. Terence grabbed me and shoved me into the back seat of his car and started tearing at my clothes.”

“Chief…” The officer who’d been driving had come around and caught his arm as he gripped his sidearm and moved toward the mayor. “You can’t go up and shoot him.”

“Temporary insanity,” Adam growled. “I’ve a legal eagle cousin.”

“And I have a judge cousin,” added another voice.

“God, Bessie!” Tina gasped, rushing past the man. “Are you okay?”

Bessie smiled as her cousin and boss, Jake Simmons, came from their nearby clinic

“Jake,” Adam greeted the doctor as Tina hugged Bessie. He turned to his officer. “Tom, make sure someone checks under the mayor’s fingernails. And the back seat of his car for traces of Bessie’s DNA.”

  “You got it, Chief.”

Tom trotted down the block. Adam came closer and Chance tightened his arm around Bessie. He’d met him at David’s birthday party days after Tre had proposed to Alice, but in casual khakis and an untucked collared shirt, he had been a bit easier to be around. In his police uniform, Adam Andersson was intimidating. A couple inches taller than Chance’s 6’2”, the chief had about thirty pounds of muscle on him. Plus, police had taken his sisters from him. He’d been on edge around them ever since.

“Bessie, I’ve heard rumors about what happened three weeks ago,” he started quietly. “I’ve been trying to call you. Why didn’t you come to me?”
