"Sounds like a musical."
"I explained to her that we're having problems."
"Problems? Is that what I am now? A problem?"
"She told me about a secretary job opening up and how cheap the houses are to rent over there, so I went to see for myself and I put down a deposit."
"You did what?!"
"The moving van will be here early on Monday morning. So get packing."
"You're insane!"
"It was either this or you go and live with your dad."
I think my face says it all. I'd rather eat rat poison.
Paige walks into the kitchen and throws the packing tape at my head.
"Oww...what the fuck, Paige?!"
"Language!" Mom yells.
"This is all because of her! I hate you! I wish you'd never been born!" Paige screams.
I rub my head, listening to my sister ranting. She's gone bright red and the vein in her forehead looks like it might pop.
"Paige, we've talked about this. It's for the best." Mom says calmly.
"For who? I haven't done anything wrong! She's the one causing trouble and putting herself about."
Did she just say that? I know it's bad timing but my emotions are all over the place and for some reason, I burst out laughing.
"Aaagh. I hate you!" Paige cries.
Who is this angry troll and what have they done with my sister?
"I wish I was dead!" Paige screams and stomps up the stairs and Mom chases after her, trying to calm her down.
But then I come down from my madness and sag against the counter, phone in hand.
This isn't really happening. I must be dreaming.
"Paige!" Mom yells, banging on my sister's door.
I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths to calm myself down.
When I open my eyes I am still surrounded by boxes, bubble wrap, and packing tape at my feet and I know I'm not dreaming.
I grab the first thing I can find and throw it at the wall.
The glass collides with the wall and falls to the floor in broken pieces...just like my life.
