MOON
Page 16
I see her cheeks pink, and it reminds me so much of me. “Not crazy at all.” I take her hand in mine, and we sit.
Phoebe tells us about her life, her family, where she’s going to college and what she hopes to do in the future. I’m amazed and so proud of this woman, this person, in front of me. She came from me at a time when my life was so dark and silent, and here she sits so full of light and life.
My daughter.
After what seemed like mere minutes but was hours of talking together, we begin our goodbyes.
“Do you know what you’re having?” she asks me with a hand on my pregnant belly.
“A girl.” I smile, looking at Endy.
“Luna,” Endy adds.
We’d chosen the name Luna because she was the Roman equivalent of Selene. Luna was the divine embodiment of the moon and the female to compliment the sun. She’d forever be our source of light and warmth.
I hug Phoebe goodbye and walk with Endy to our car. My heart is so full. Full of love, life, and hope.
When life seemed dark and empty and hollow, there was light at the end shining. Now I see it, I feel it. Warmth has spread through me, coating every last part of me. Every demon is gone. Every monster dead. Every nightmare changed to a beautiful dream.
We no longer live in the silent protection of night but are basking in the sunlight of day.
All brightness.
THE END
Little Bird
By Lindsay Becs
Bad dreams go away
Little bird fly away
Open the door and be free
Look at the sun and feel the breeze
Another day to laugh and play
Another day to fly away
Am I ready to be me?
Am I ready to be free?
Demons try to pull me down
My head is spinning as I begin to drown
I’m screaming, can you hear me?
My skin is crawling but there’s no healing
I see light in the distance
But clouds cover in an instant
I seek for warmth and so much more
But I’m pulled away, left on the floor
Little bird fly away
Find a way to stay away
Go far, go free
But I know you’ll never leave
The grass is greener on the other side
Do you promise it’s not a lie?
I want to kiss the golden rays
Feel the glory of all its ways
Strong, secure, holding me tight
Maybe now I’ll sleep through the night
Muddy and muddled are my thoughts
Inside my mind I feel them rot
I gasp for air; do you hear me?
I see your face but you won’t heal me
You scratch at all my open wounds
Screaming, I shout to the moon
Little bird fly away
Find a way to stay away
I see you hurt and broken
You were sleeping but now you're woken
Be strong, my love, you have to fight
Take courage and begin your flight
Sweet sun will find your face
Pick up your broken pieces and race
Smile big the end is near
Smile big from ear to ear
Happiness has found you, this is your time
Happiness is in you, it’s your time to shine
Little bird fly away
I’m glad to see you found a way
Flying, soaring, high above
I’m glad to see you filled with love.

Special Thanks
Thank you to my hubs and children! You have endured me ignoring you when I’m in the writing zone and just saying ‘OK’ even when I have no idea what you’re saying or asking. I love you four people with my whole heart!
My betas… Laura, Jenn, Sophers, and Kathy… Thank you all for helping me so much! I value your opinions and thoughts more than you know. I know I can be a little crazy sometimes; thanks for looking past that.
