“What’s your other reason?” Her voice was venomous now.

  “According to some superstitions, witches have a major disdain for salt. You should hope that’s not the case seeing how you will be encased in it forever.”

  His words shook her to the core. In all the years she had known him she had witnessed his temper toward others but never had he turned it toward her. Her eyes followed him as he stepped back and off to her left side to stand perpendicular to her. He and his uncle faced each other in the same stance that the dark figures held.

  Abby’s heart began to pound as the exotic woman strode toward her. She stared, captivated by her, unable to shift her gaze. Rie slowly moved her sunglasses to the top of her head, the act harnessing some of the wild hair blowing around her.

  Abby was caught off guard by the intense glow of the woman’s green eyes. If she didn’t know any better, she would swear she was being hypnotized. She was so wrapped up in those eyes that she didn’t notice the two daggers Rie had pulled from their sheaths and now wielded in each of her tiny hands.

  The pain from the large ‘M’ carved into her chest broke the spell but the swiftness of the act left her no time to cry out. Her heart began to beat in her ears as she knew the few breaths she took would be her last. Initially the pounding became more forceful as she felt the daggers enter her left and right ventricles. But, then it subsided as the blood pooled in her rib cage and life slowly drained from her body.
