  I could play, too.

“Ha-ha, but Mark. It’s good to remember our roots. They are the best part about ourselves… remember the roots that your family are embedded in? Does Sandra remember her roots as well?”

  Mark paled.

That hit the spot just as I had planned.

To put it plainly, I dabble in the business of making things happen. Mark had been an associate of mine from way back, and he had a distaste for honest work.

However, he had a flare for exotic women. In particular, a specific Puerto Rican named Sandra who could not get into the country legally, as her family had been on Interpol’s radar for suspected terrorism.

Mark came to me, and with a wave of my globally-interconnected wand, I made Sandra a free woman to come live in the States and be the wife to the man standing before me for the last ten years.

It was a harmless favor to pull off, as Sandra was not at fault for her extended relative’s suspected crimes – hell, she didn’t even know the guy. It had all worked out quite well.

But clearly Mark was uncomfortable with my reminder.

He knew that one call to Interpol would change things, and Sandra would once again be seen as an international menace rather than the boring housewife she truly was.

The blood drained from his cheeks, making him ashen.

“We shall have this conversation another time.”

He shuffled and adjusted his tie. He almost seemed to choke a bit.

  “Another time, Mark,” I promised.

Asshole is a touch more elegant of a word than what I was thinking just then, to describe him.

I stood up and walked the men towards my door, when I noticed a message displayed across my lens.

  “SECURITY BREACH!”

This was the first time something like this had ever happened at my place of business, and enacting the protocol was the first step towards action. But the lens on my right eye showed me something utterly different and unforthcoming.

Nancy had grabbed Valeria by the arm and was wiping her nose with the sleeve of her left arm. I was perplexed by this and turned the volume up after eyeing the command on my lens.

What the fuck was going on out there?

I didn’t know, but I needed to find out.

It seemed it was time to turn my attention away from Mark the Asshole and towards whatever it was that my latest flame and my secretary – and wannabe flame – were getting themselves into.

  Chapter Eleven

  Valeria

As Alexander was entertaining the businessmen who had come to see him, I was dealing with another formidable force: his secretary, Nancy. The woman with the perfect red hair looked at me with a hint of envy in her eyes. Her glance was wary, and she continued eyeing me for a moment before taking a seat and resuming her duties.

I stood there awkwardly for a second before I cleared my throat.

“Nancy, right? So, what is my role as your assistant?” I asked calmly.

Having a kiss-ass little brother and a few emotionally sensitive friends made dealing with Nancy slightly easy. She was the kind of woman who seemed to have worked for Alexander for a long time and had clearly known him for years.

She was probably just being loyal. Getting on her good side seemed like the best thing to do at that moment.

“Yes, Valeria. You’ll regard me with some semblance of respect when you address me. It will be Miss Waters to you,” Nancy raptly spewed.

She pursed her lips and added, rather coldly, in my opinion, “Mr. Foster works long hours. He needs his coffee at a specific time with a specific temperature from three specific places for different days of the week. He loathes the coffee we make in here and prefers his with milk and no sugar.”

She glanced at me, as if to make sure I was listening, which I was, rapturously devouring all the information I could soak up about Alexander. Then her eyes returned to the computer monitor in front of her as she continued prattling off instructions.

“He takes lunch in his office daily unless Jonathan, his personal butler, says otherwise. Now, your job is never to speak to him unless I tell you to. You are never to talk to him directly concerning matters that are personal or work related, and you are never to enter his office without my say so. What Mr. Foster likes and wants are my jobs to figure out and fulfill, and you will only perform the tasks that I give you, with no questions asked. After all, I am the one who holds your paycheck.”

She spoke through this whole spiel without taking a breath. I stood there a bit surprised. When she was done, she was short of breath and a little flustered.

That was one thing I had totally not seen coming. Despite my very sheltered upbringing, I knew that there were crochety people out there in the world and the workplace in particular, but Nancy took the cake.

Maybe it was my first-day jitters, but the sharp and deadly words that fell out of her mouth seemed to come at me like a snake with an agenda. She made me realize this was personal.

“The toilet at the end of the hall requires cleaning. The cleaners have their day off on Monday on this floor. Kindly be a darling and move your ass,” she smiled sweetly, with her baby green eyes turning icy and her purple nails glimmering like knives on a winter’s night.

“Wait, what?” I asked in disbelief. “The toilet! Really, now?”

“Are you questioning my authority, Valeria?” she cooed ever so sweetly.

Her smile was getting creepier by the second, and the mischievous glint in her eye became more and more dangerous and deathly as the hand on the clock on the white illuminated walls ticked by.

  “No,” I replied flatly.

She smiled curtly, which I took as an accomplishment on my part.

There was only one way to stay on Andrew’s good side, and it involved letting him be; apparently the same was true for Nancy.

“Where are the supplies?” I asked, bored and out of steam.

I was totally not dressed for this task, and this mad woman had decided to ruin my day — and just when I was about to get some alone time with Alexander.

“You have half a brain, don't you?” she hissed at me. “In the bathroom cabinet, duh.”

I walked away before I uttered something I would regret. My lips were closed, but my heart and mind were yelling out insults by the split second at this woman who seemed to have been threatened by my presence. It was my first day and already I had rubbed a few shoulders roughly. Clearly, she was jealous.

“Alright then, Miss Waters. As you wish,” I confidently fired back.

Looking away from her, I strutted with all the grace I could muster. Step after step, I felt that my only consolation was that Alexander was around and I would talk to him. He did seem busy with those jerks in suits, though, I thought. Maybe on my lunch break I would get a chance to see him.

I turned a corner and found a door marked ‘bathroom’, and through there were the distinguishable gents’ and ladies’ doors. Through the ladies’ room, a private cubicle was elegantly displayed.

The walls were tiled in light green and had painted finishes on the edges. The tiles had immaculately carved pictures of flowers in vases and featured different signatures from celebrities.

The bowl of the toilet was spotless, and the lids lifted electronically.

  Damn, Alexander. The toilets too?

I could not hide my amazement at this guy's extravagance.

I then remembered the green-eyed croc with the shameless envy. I stared at my dress and jacket and considered quitting. I had worn my best today; and not to clean a toilet.

But I didn’t want to quit. I didn’t want to let Nancy get her way, as it meant I would be out of Alexander’s sight and touch. And I certainly didn’t want that.

  Fuck it.

I didn’t have to clean the bathroom. It was already spotless. I realized I only had to stay in here long enough to make it seem as if I was doing so.

There was a honey-colored basket on the side with magazines, and I sat down
on the toilet lid. I flipped through a few knitting patterns and was quite intrigued for a few minutes. One would be amazed at the things you can accomplish with a string of yarn.

All I could think of was how brazen I had become with my advances on Alexander. He was strong and attractive and there was no doubt about that, but he had also suggested his deep feelings last night when he took my innocence in the bathroom.

His hands were soft and firm while grabbing my pussy, and his lips were well moistened for my licking. That just got me fired up, and today was no exception to the burning ache I had in my pussy.

Grappling with the morality of my actions with Alexander was a knocking on my conscience that I knew I could not ignore forever. It was gnawing at the back of my mind and being seated on the toilet made my thoughts wander into the past 24 hours of my life and how drastically it had all changed for me.

I had feelings for Alexander; that was undoubted. I knew I had innate desires of the flesh that could only be sated by the man himself, but it was a sin and I knew how badly this would backlash at me if my parents ever got wind of what I had done.

My mother had a particular loathing for Alexander, and I never understood why. Sure, he could be cocky and hardheaded, but his heart was in a good place. She had her misgivings with rich men, and I was sure that was a story linked to her past in one way or another.

Questions upon questions waved through me as I thought of how charismatic Alexander had been with me. He obviously wanted to see more of me at work, but how he planned to do it, I didn’t know.

Nancy, being a cold-hearted bitch who saw competition in me, would make life as hard and complicated as she could, and in as much as Alexander was the boss of her, she was the boss of me.

I wished for Stella, my best friend, to be close by so that I could get all this off my chest. She was the one person I trusted to tell all my secrets, as I was that person to her as well.

I should give her a call tonight, I affirmed in my thoughts.

A page of the magazine I was going over grazed my knee ever so lightly and made me tingle. Shivers waved over my knee, through my thighs and within my quivering womanhood, moistening at the thought of what Alexander and I had just tried to get up to in his office.

His thick wall of confidence had been shut down by my faked bravado, and he was just about to lay it down on me on his desk.

His ass and abs had felt solid and muscular, hidden from my touch by his silky garments. His lips called to me, yearning to be devoured and pampered with mine, as I felt his soul burn in pleasure and desire and want for me…

Two knocks on the door brought me back to the world. I was startled and fumbled around, for my hands had strayed and found themselves rubbing at my pussy, begging for sweet release.

  “Having fun in there?”

An icy drawl filtered through the door. Nancy had obviously come to check up on my “work” progress.

“Just about done, ma’am,” I cooed, knowing how pissed she would probably get from that old lady way of addressing her. Yet she could hardly fault me for being respectful.

I hurriedly made myself look decent and walked to the door. I opened it just in time to see her fuming her ears off.

“Ma’am? What am I, your grandmother? Get to work! Or there is no paycheck for you this week,” she emphasized with a huff, and her pink nose twitched lightly to indicate her abject dislike of the situation at hand.

“Cool. When is lunch, by the way?” I asked, trying to diffuse the situation.

I had put the magazine down by then and had one hand on the door.

“It’s not even eight o’clock in the morning, and you’re already asking about food? What a heifer you are! You young bitches with your…”

She did not get to finish her statement. My fist had found a way to defy the laws of command from my brain, and had seemingly found itself hurtling forcefully through the air and into the squishy face of this woman who had just gone crazy on me.

I wasn’t the daughter of a former ring fighter for nothing.

After my near rape incident, Dad had taken his time to train me in the art of ball-crunching. And yes, it was as much fun for me as it was pain for the receiving party. My days on the mat had paid off.

  Shock.

  Disbelief.

  Pain.

  Screams.

That was the usual formula for a surprise attack on one’s person. Nancy had a broken nose, and a bloody blouse for getting on my nerves. I knew that it would not bode well with Alexander, even with our kind of relationship; even if it was anything resembling that.

But the energy of the words that came out of her mouth in the prevailing seconds was clearly unexpected.

  “Security!”

That freaked the fuck out of me.

Come to think of it, who wouldn’t be freaked out?

I stood there transfixed as Nancy got out a small pen from her breast pocket and kept pushing the top of it.

Must be some kind of tech Alex supplies for his employees or something.

“Oh, you just stand there and wait, young lady. Not even the boss will save you from this shitstorm you’ve placed yourself in,” she smirked, wiping her bloody nose with her sleeve.

She looked totally unattractive right then, and even her green eyes looked more like glass.

She grabbed me forcefully by the arm and whisked me away from the corner washrooms. Nancy was surprisingly strong for a woman her age. I wasn’t going to mention it, as I saw no need to add coal to the flames, even though it incensed me just as much.

  “Let go of me, woman!”

What was surprising to me was the lack of fear in me. Perhaps I thought that this was just a first day misunderstanding and that it would all go away with a wave of a finger from Mr. F himself, or maybe it was my unwavering faith in God and my beliefs that taught me to never fear what a human could do to me.

She whisked me past the scared looking employees. Some of them huddled away like pieces of mercury coming together, whispering at the events unfolding before them. I hated them all right there and then, and I wished that my rescuer would come through.

We were back at the front desk and just a few feet away from Alexander.

Oh. Come on, Alexander. You’ve got to be seeing all this drama somehow, I hastily thought.

The grip on my forearm where Nancy had grabbed onto had begun to hurt and cramp up, and I was about to knock her into the ground and leave the office complex when a ding focused everyone’s attention towards the floor’s elevators.

Security was here. The creepy one and the fat one walked through with tasers in hand and a thirst for action in their stride.

I looked back at Nancy in horror, reeling at the thought of being in a confined space with those two men. They seemed a little bit off and gave a vibe of being a bit too headstrong for security.

“Hello, missy,” whispered the creepy one.

He had small glassy beads for eyes and curled his lips in a smile, flexing the metal rod he had in the other hand.

“Finally, you’re here,” Nancy snapped. “Reggie, take this piece of trash out of this office, and…”

A certain silence rendered the air. It was uncomfortable and palpable.

Both security guards seemed a bit edgy all of a sudden.

Nancy’s words were cut off mid-sentence as she spun around to see the reason for the awkwardness in the air.

Her grip tightened even more, but not out of anger. Out of fear.

  She was afraid.

Right behind us, a bespectacled six-foot-tall man with an air of arrogance and eyes filled with anger stared at the sight before him.

  It was Alexander, of course.

  My savior.

And his eyes were positively on fire.

“Professional, huh?” he asked, glaring at Nancy.

  Chapter Twelve

  Alexander

A few minutes earlier, Mr. Goodright had snapped, “Alexander, are you alright?”

&n
bsp; I hadn’t been listening to him. My right hand was on the frame of my glasses, adjusting the outside camera remotely.

“Yeah, yeah. Give me a second.”

I was watching a scene unfolding between Valeria and Nancy. They weren’t getting along at all. Nancy had called security.

“Finally, you’re here,” Nancy was saying. “Reggie, take this piece of trash…”

That was all I had to hear from Nancy to spark an inferno inside me and swing open my office doors — Mr. Goodright and his lawyers be damned.

I stood there and glared at the back of Nancy’s head, and I knew the other employees of mine close by felt my presence. The awkward silence that ensued clammed the entire office.

The guards from the front desk eyed me cautiously. It was obvious that it took Nancy a few seconds to register what the fuck was going on, and by the time her head had stopped turning, she knew.

“Professional, huh?” I asked, albeit calmly, but with enough fire to steel every word I would utter from that moment on.

I turned on my heel and looked towards my three guests.

“It would be wise to leave the building, gentlemen. Our meeting is over. This is a matter I need to attend to.”

Mark buttoned the front of his suit and nodded in reluctant agreement. The three couldn’t have shuffled faster towards the elevator doors at the end of the hall, and left.

“Sir, this is a misunderstanding I can clear up,” Nancy started.

She was clearly expecting me to interrupt her, but I egged her to go on.

“Umm… Sir. Insubordination is what went on here. This girl here could not do the simple tasks I gave her…”

“Cleaning the toilets! That was definitely not what I signed up for, Mr. Foster! This was supposed to be an office job,” Valeria cut in.

She looked ferocious and angry and very uncomfortable with the grip around her arm.

Cleaning toilets? Wow, Nancy. You have a subtle way of making friends, I thought.

“Let her arm go, Nancy. Boys, get back downstairs. Now,” I wolfed.

In an instant, the air shifted easily.

The guards left my presence with a salute and hurried to the elevator doors, both of them looking in a hurry to go and talk, nay, gossip between themselves about the events that unfolded.
