Kazzrak nudges me in the ribs and whispers, “Let the old fella pass on whatever trinket he wants, Sybaal. It's not like you don't have the bag space. He looks like he'll croak at any moment.”

Time seems to begin moving again, and I come to the only decision I can really make. “Yes, I will accept your gift.”

Reaching out, I go to take the medallion, although when I put my hand over the warm metal, the old man grasps my hand in both of his.

“Thank you, Lord Sybaal. I'm so very tired of wandering the world. Four hundred years is such a long time to be alone, and all I want to do is rest. Now I can finally lay my name of Belvar to rest.” Tears are streaming down the gnarled old face before me, and he closes his eyes with a sigh.

Frowning, I don't have time to contemplate where I've heard that name before, as a pain greater than even dying from Victoria's blade pierces my hand where the medallion is searing it into oblivion. I open my mouth in a silent scream and shock as the old man Belvar explodes into thousands of motes of multicoloured lights.

They hang there, lighting up the camp with a brilliant hue very much like the Aurora Borealis. The pain becomes greater and greater as they are sucked down and absorbed into the medallion, which is somehow now a dagger that is slowly sinking beneath my skin until nothing is left of it.

The pain becomes unbearable, and just when I think I'm going to go crazy, what feels like a dagger begins to dig into my temple, twisting and turning for maximum pain.

I scream as my vision shatters like glass and I sink down into an all-consuming black hole. My consciousness begins to rush past quick flashes of images like an old reel tape movie. Memories that I never had flicker and die.

"I'm impaled on the fangs of a giant snake, swinging from a tree."

I swing a giant rock down on a kobold, crushing its face.

I'm holding a spear out in front of me, facing off a sabretooth.

I'm holding a bronze dagger, about to stab someone in the back.

My hand holds a sword impaled into a surprised, tattooed elf.

A fireball leaves my hand, striking someone waiting in the dark.

Two swords decapitate a soldier with a runic tabard.

Over and over the images continue in a blur. Death upon death at my hand, with the only clear picture being the weapon I'm using. I can no longer see what I'm killing, just the weapons and the blood from creatures unknown.

  Finally, they stop.

The last one is of a night sky and I'm gripping a familiar, horned warrior with both hands, looking at him through teary eyes. A dagger pierces our hands in my own personal shish kebab.

Pain encompasses me completely and I black out.

  Epilogue

When I come to, a lingering pain in my temple makes me wince. Opening my eyes, I look up at the new light of a horizon on the edge of dawn. Small rays of light are shooting across the morning sky.

With the fire still crackling away, my eyes start to focus, and I can somehow see even clearer than before, if that's possible.

Feeling a heavy weight on my chest, I look down at a beautiful naked lady, covered in tiny twilight-coloured scales, sprawled across my chest. It takes me a moment, but I realise that she is a dragonkin just like myself. Wings, tail, horns and all.

Glaring over top of my amazing view, a notification instantly takes all of my attention.

  Afterword

Well, if you made it this far, I guess you enjoyed this second book of escapades of Donald and his friends. It was such a fun book to write that I may or may not have gotten carried away at some points. Keeping track of tangents are the bane of my existence, but at the same time they make plotlines so much more fun than just a straight and narrow. Well, in my point of view at least. Don't sorry, everything will tie itself together soon enough.

Book 3, The Problems With Polymorphing is already up for preorder. I can't wait to see how much you like the shenanigans everyone gets up to in it.

Lastly, if you wish to leave a review, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sure you are well aware how much stock amazon puts into positive reviews. As always, the choice is up to you.
