“Not until I get you out of your clothes,” Nadine said grinning at her soon to be lover. She stripped off her clothes quickly and then began to admire her body. “Ooh, I remember when my body looked like this. So firm and soft in all the right places.” Her hand covered her flat stomach and her eyes took in her whole body.

“Nadine. It’s kind of cold standing here.”

“Sorry.” In no time, Nadine had the covers thrown back and Kim flat on her back. She climbed on top of her body and groaned when their cores came together. She was now kissing her mouth with fervor. Once her hands and mouth reached for Kim’s breasts she was lost.

Kim was moaning and trying to hold back her climax. She knew if Nadine touched her now, she would come undone and that’s exactly what happened. “Oh, god, Nadine.”

Nadine began to laugh against Kim’s neck. “What happened? Not that I’m not flattered.”

Kim looked into the warm brown eyes. “It’s been a long time for me and I’ve been on perpetual arousal for months over you.”

“Let’s try that again and see if I can get you to enjoy it a little more before you come.”

“Who said I didn’t enjoy what you did. My breasts have never been that sensitive to anyone else before.”

“Less talking and more loving,” Nadine said as she began her descent. Words weren’t needed as her mouth loved the woman before her. It was as if they had been making love all their lives. Their bodies came together not only in pleasure, but they were now sharing their souls.

“Stop. Stop, please,” Kim groaned. “I’m too sensitive.” Before she could say another word, Nadine pushed two fingers into her and Kim began to move with her thrusts. Kim moved allowing Nadine to fill her. To share this intimate moment together. Her mind cleared allowing her body to enjoy. “Nadine,” she screamed as the climax hit her again. “Come here, please,” Kim begged. “Woman, where did you learn to do that?”

“It was you, my love. I have never wanted anyone the way I wanted you.”

“I want you too,” she said flipping Nadine onto her back.

Kim had no idea what time they stopped exploring each other’s bodies, but they lay exhausted on each other in a deep sleep.

  CHAPTER 16

Kim rolled over and found the other side of the bed empty. Not only was Nadine not there, but the sheets were cold. She sat up and threw the covers off. Going into the walk-in closet to find a warm pair of sweats and socks, Kim padded out of the closet and stopped in the bedroom with her hands on her hips. “Where the hell did she go?”

From the stairs, she heard, “I’m right here.” Nadine carried a tray with breakfast.

“I thought you left,” Kim said taking in the pair of sweats Nadine was wearing. Hers fit her body snugly whereas Kim’s were loose. Her mouth became dry and she just stood there watching.

“Are you okay?” Nadine asked when she put the tray down on the bench at the end of the bed.

Kim nodded her head. “Yeah, fine.” Her hands came around Nadine’s body once the tray was secure and kissed the back of her neck. “You didn’t have to make breakfast.”

“I wanted to,” she answered turning into Kim’s arms for a kiss. “Get back in bed and I’ll bring the tray over.”

Kim jumped back on the king-sized bed and brought the covers up to her waist. Nadine carried the tray to the bed and put it down on Kim’s legs. “All this for me?”

“No, you silly goose.” Nadine walked to the other side of the bed and got in. She now placed the tray between them. Nadine had made them omelets with toast and jam. The coffee was hot and Kim moaned when she took a sip. “You like?”

“Love.” Kim now picked up a slice of toast and began munching. “I’m starving. I can’t imagine why.”

“Maybe because we didn’t eat much yesterday and then we kind of worked up an appetite all night.” Nadine now kissed Kim’s cheek. “Thanks for asking me to spend the weekend.” Her finger traced Kim’s free hand. “How are you doing?”

“I guess okay. My grandmother was old, but it is still going to be hard that I can’t pick up the phone and call her.” Nadine squeezed her hand as she spoke. “You don’t know what it meant to me for you to come down to Florida.”

“I would have been there sooner if I thought you wouldn’t mind.” Kim laid her head on Nadine’s shoulder. “I’m here for whatever you need.”

“Thank you and I’ll do the same for you.” She lifted her head and kissed Nadine’s mouth. “Hurry up and eat because I need you.”

“You need me, huh?” Nadine asked smiling.

  “Oh yeah.”

Nadine and Kim finally surfaced late in the afternoon. They made dinner together and were now relaxing on the couch. Nadine’s phone began to ring and she looked at the screen before answering. “Hi, Mom.”

“Where are you? I tried calling your apartment last night and this morning,” Jennifer asked.

“I’m staying at Kim’s. I went down to Florida to attend Kim’s grandmother’s funeral.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry, dear. Is Kim okay?”

Nadine could hear her mother’s concern in her voice and watched as Kim walked toward the kitchen. “She’s taking it hard.”

“I guess you decided to start dating her?” Jennifer asked changing the subject.

  “Yes.”

  “Are you happy?”

“I’m very happy, Mom. I’m in love with her.”

  “That was fast,” she said.

Nadine could hear the change in her mother’s voice. “It wasn’t fast. I’ve been denying how I felt for her all these months. I’m not doing that anymore.”

“Why don’t you and Kim come to dinner tonight? Your dad knows her and I want to know her too.”

Nadine knew her mother wasn’t going to take no for an answer. Kim came back into the room. “Mom, let me ask Kim.” She muted the call. “My mother wants us to come to dinner tonight. I can tell her you aren’t up to it this weekend.”

“No. It’s okay. I want to meet her.”

  “You sure?” Nadine asked.

  “Yes.”

Nadine went back onto the line. “We will be there, Mom. What time?”

“Come over at five and we can eat shortly after you get here. I want to be able to talk to Kim.”

  “No interrogation, Mom.”

“I’ll be good. Just make sure she comes with you.”

“Yes, Mother.” Nadine disconnected the call and turned to Kim. “I’m sorry.”

“Nothing to be sorry about. You saw my relationship with my parents.” Her hands fanned out. “I’d like to meet a set of supporting parents.” Kim chuckled. “That is something I’ve never felt. If I was straight, they’d have something else to be disappointed in me. It has been like that my entire life. No matter what I did, it wasn’t good enough.” Nadine pulled Kim to her body as she spoke. “I’m okay. I’ve learned to live with it and know it’s not my fault. Well, that’s what my therapist says,” she said with a strangled laugh.

“You’re seeing a therapist?” Nadine asked surprised.

“Not anymore. This was when I was in college and a year after that. She made me realize that I am only responsible for myself. My parents aren’t going to change and I don’t need their approval to be happy.” Kim shrugged. “After that, things started to fall into place for me.” She leaned into Nadine and kissed her mouth. “I never would have had the opportunity to date someone like you if I hadn’t gotten into therapy.”

“I’m glad your therapist helped you. You are a wonderful caring woman, Kim. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

  “I love you.”

  “I love you too.”

  CHAPTER 17

Nadine let out the breath she was holding when the front door of her parents’ home opened. “Hi, Dad.” She stepped forward. “You know Kim.”

Joe hugged his daughter and held out his hand to Kim. “It’s good to see you, Kim. Welcome to our home.”

&nb
sp; “Thanks, Joe.”

He led them to the living room. “Kim, how about a beer?”

“Since I know you own a Fizzic’s machine, I’d love one.”

“You were the one to buy it for me,” he said before walking away.

“You bought my father one of those beer machines?” Nadine asked shocked.

“Last Christmas,” Kim answered with a shrug.

“You give your financial advisor a Christmas gift?” Nadine couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Not one of her clients even sent a Christmas card. Kim was definitely too good for her. “Wow.”

“It’s not wow. I give everyone I know well a Christmas gift.”

“The mailman, garbage men and people like that?” Kim rolled her eyes at Nadine’s question. “What are you doing with a slug like me?”

This time Kim laughed. “It’s no big deal, Nadine.”

Joe Connors came back into the room with a beer for Kim and a glass of wine for his daughter. He was followed by Jennifer Connors. In her hand, she carried a plate of appetizers. She put the plate down and walked right over to Kim, who immediately stood up. “Hello, Kim. I’m Jennifer Connors. I’m very sorry to hear about your grandmother.”

“Thank you and I’m happy to meet you, Mrs. Connors,” Kim said holding out her hand and noticed how much Nadine looked like her mother. They had the same dark hair and brown eyes.

Jennifer smirked. “You’re dating my daughter and that deserves a hug.”

  “Gee, thanks, Mom.”

She looked at Kim when she released her from a hearty hug. “You can call me Jen.”

  “Thank you,” Kim said shyly.

“Sit down Kim and have some of these crab puffs before Joe and Nadine eat them all,” she said pointing as they had their mouths full.

“You’re just so funny, Mom.” Nadine picked up another crab puff. “Don’t scare her away when I just found her.”

This time Kim and Jennifer laughed. “Kim, Nadine tells me that you donate your time at the food pantry?”

  “I do.”

“If there is anything I can ever do, just let me know. I can drag a few friends down there with me.” Nadine stopped chewing and just stared at her mother. “Don’t look at me like that, young lady. I used to donate a lot of time in the past. Then life gets busy and you forget about it. I’ve always felt bad that I stopped.” Her smile grew. “I’m sure you’ve noticed that Nadine and I look alike. I’m twenty years older than she is, so you’ll know what Nadine will look like at my age.”

“Mom,” Nadine scolded as Kim turned a bright shade of pink. “Ignore her, Kim.”

“You’re both very beautiful,” Kim said finding her voice again and winked at Nadine.

  “They are,” Joe added.

Dinner and conversation were pleasant. Kim relaxed and enjoyed spending time with Nadine’s parents. When it was time to leave their house, Kim got a big hug from both parents.

  “Don’t be a stranger, Kim.”

“I won’t,” Kim said taking Nadine’s hand as they left the house.

“Are you sorry you came?” Nadine asked once they were back in the car.

“No. I had a good time.” Kim laughed. “Your mother is a trip.”

“That’s one word for her,” she said grumbling.

“You might think she is too much, but you’ve met my mother and I’ll take yours any day. She made me feel welcome.” They drove toward Kim’s house. “I guess you won’t be staying over tonight?”

“I wish I could, Kim, but you know I have work tomorrow.” They pulled up in front of the house. Nadine turned to Kim. “Are you working tomorrow?”

  Kim shook her head. “Nope.”

“Then go pack a bag and spend the night with me,” she said smiling.

“Are you sure? I know you need your rest after the weekend we just had,” she said with a grin.

Nadine leaned toward Kim. “I didn’t say we were going to make love, but it would be nice to sleep next to you.”

Kim opened the car door. “I’ll see you in half an hour and I think we can spare a half hour for each other,” she said with a wink before closing the car door.

  CHAPTER 18

The women did find time to share their love for each other the night before, but now Nadine was dragging herself out of bed in the morning. She slipped into the bathroom as quietly as she could so she didn’t disturb Kim’s sleep. A smile remained on her face as she stripped off her clothes to take a shower. She had enjoyed spooning with Kim all night. It wasn’t the most comfortable position to sleep in, but just feeling her body next to her was enough.

When Nadine came out of the bathroom, the bed was empty. She went to her closet to get dressed. She spread her clothes on the bed and turned to find Kim at her side with a cup of coffee. “I thought you might need this.”

“Thank you, honey,” she said kissing Kim’s cheek. “But you didn’t have to get out of bed.”

“I wanted to spend time with you before you left for work,” she said grinning. “Can I make you breakfast?”

“Just sit and talk to me while I get ready.”

Kim jumped onto the bed and made herself comfortable. “Would you come to my house tonight for dinner?”

“Yes,” Nadine said coming over to the side of bed. Her hand went through the disheveled blond hair before she kissed her deeply. “Why don’t you get some more sleep?”

“Nah, I don’t think I can go back to sleep.” Kim reached through Nadine’s hair and massaged her neck. “You look beautiful.” She tried to pull her close to her.

Nadine pulled away. “If I let you pull me back down there, I’ll never get to work.”

“I can live with that,” she said with a grin reaching for Nadine’s hand.

Nadine gave her a quick kiss. “I’ll see you tonight at five-thirty.”

“Have a good day.” Kim watched as the woman she loved, dressed in a sexy suit, left the bedroom.

  *

Kim went to the door to let Nadine in, but when she opened the door it wasn’t her. “Mother. What are you doing here?” Kim asked stepping out of the way as her mother entered the house without an invitation.

“I need you to go with me to Florida to clean out your grandmother’s apartment.”

“Why can’t Terry go with you?” Kim asked defiantly.

“Because she has an important job. I’m sure the food pantry can spare you for a few days.”

Kim shook her head. No matter how many times she told her mother that she volunteered at the pantry and it wasn’t her job, she just wouldn’t listen. “When do you want to go?”

“I’ve booked the tickets for Wednesday morning.” Alice took a seat and finally looked around. “The pantry must pay you very well.”

Just as she was about to answer her mother, the doorbell rang. She looked at her mother and pointed, “If you can’t be nice, leave now.” Kim opened the door.

“Hi, sweetie.” Nadine walked in and took off her coat. “It smells good in here.” She came closer and gave Kim a soft kiss. Nadine’s eyes looked to the right and saw Kim’s mother in the living room. She purposely walked toward her. “Hello, Mrs. Bailey. It’s good to see you again.”

Alice mumbled something, but Nadine ignored her. “Do you live here now?”

“No,” she said softly. “I’ve been invited to dinner.”

Alice studied her clothes. “Are you supporting my daughter? Your clothes tell me that you make good money,” she said with a snarl and then turned to Kim. “She’s older than you, so she must be your sugar momma.”

“That’s it, Mother.” Kim grabbed her mother by the arm and led her to the door. “What time do I have to pick you up?”

  “Seven-thirty.”

Kim opened the door. “I’ll be there.” She watched as her mother stepped onto the porch and then she closed the door. Kim rested her head against the closed door. When is this going to end? She felt a soft hand on her arm and turned around. Her mouth opened, but Nad
ine covered her mouth with a passionate kiss.

They broke away and laid their foreheads together. “I know what you were about to say and you don’t have to. You are not responsible for what your mother says.” She lifted her head and chuckled. “I’ll wear her down eventually.”

“You think so?” Kim asked sarcastically. “That woman will be the death of me.”

“Where are you going with her?”

“To Florida. She wants my help in clearing out my grandmother’s apartment.”

“Why didn’t you just tell her no?” Nadine asked pulling Kim toward the couch.

“If I leave it up to my mother, she’ll throw everything out,” Kim sighed. “My grandmother lived on a fixed income since my grandfather died. A lot of women in that building are in the same situation. I’d rather see if they want any of her things.” She sat there quietly for a few minutes and it was the squeeze of Nadine’s hand that urged her on. “I used to send my grandmother money each month. She used that money to not only pay her bills, but help some of her good friends.”

“Now I know who you take after.” Nadine kissed her cheek. “You are the sweetest person I’ve ever met.” She looked at Kim. “What will happen to those women that your grandmother helped?”

“I’m going to speak with Mrs. White about continuing to send them money.”

Nadine’s mouth opened in shock. “Can you afford to do that?” Kim nodded. “If I can help you, I will, love.”

“I love you so much, Nadine.” Kim pressed her lips to Nadine’s to show her how much she did. “Thank you for offering, but I can handle it.” She grinned. “Besides, I’m sure you must need another purse or pair of shoes.” Nadine’s jaw dropped. “Your dad filled me in on your shopping addiction.”

“That’s the old me, Kim. I haven’t been shopping since I started going out with you.” She wrapped her arm around Kim. “I’m tired of being a clothes horse.”

  “But your job?”

“I have clothes that I’ve only worn once. My wardrobe is fine the way it is.”

Kim shook her head smiling. “You are something else.”
