“Hello, you don’t look so good,” Katy tells Rhett. “Still worried?” Charlie nods. “What can I do or say that will reassure you?”
“I don’t know. It’s the first time she’s going to be away from this, and it worries me. I’m allowed to feel this way. She is my daughter.” Rhett sits down at the kitchen table. “I’m nervous. I know your parents did everything I asked, but your dad still…” before I can finish the sentence, Frank interjects.
“We’re going to keep an eye on him. Katy told me the situation, and I understand. You have nothing to worry about. If it starts to look like something that’s uncomfortable, then I’ll call you to come get Emma, or we’ll bring her home. Emma’s welfare is number one to Kat and I.”
“Thanks.” I’m still not feeling the greatest, but I’ll get over it. Emma comes down with a suitcase and her pillow.
“I think I have everything,” she huffs. “Hi, Mom. Hi, Frank.” She quickly hugs them, and then comes over to Charlie and me. “I’ll see you in a week or two. You better miss me,” she tells Charlie.
“Who are you again?” Charlie laughs. “I’ll miss you a lot. Now, remember to take a lot of pictures with that camera Santa brought you at Christmas.” She shows Charlie that she has it. They hug, and she hugs me.
“Have fun without me.” She sticks her tongue at me, and I laugh. They walk out of the house and into the car.
Charlie comes over to me. “Mr. Livingston, are you ready to spend the next week with me completely naked with no interruptions of brothers, ranch hands, sisters, best friends, or a small child?”
“Have I told you lately, Mrs. Livingston, that you are the smartest woman I know?” I kiss her, and then toss her over my shoulder, as I take her upstairs to our room. We need to get ready to leave for our honeymoon, but I need her naked now.
It’s time to give Emma some siblings.
