"It's an Akadia thing, eventually you'll get the joke and punch me, but until then, we got to get you to the North tower." Therius ordered. Therius, Genevieve and Alister all walked down the hallway in silence until Gen finally asked.
"Hey, so when is the wedding?"
"Um, I think we should all shy away from weddings for the time being, considering resent events." Therius laughed, and soon they were all giggling. Once they climbed the winding staircase to the towers tip. She was taken aback by the view. The ocean outstretched for miles on her left. The town square was in front of her, filled to the brim with people, behind them was their town, filled with busy merchants and then rolling hills. To her right was the forest of Eaton, its native red trees shining in the Aldura.
"Wow, this is amazing. There aren't any words." she whispered. She stepped forward, to the edge of none roofed turret. Thousands of people clapped at the sight of her and she couldn't help but step back, only to be caught by Alister's guiding hand, wrapping around her waist and slowing bringing her back forward.
"Here, use this." Alister said handing her a gnarled dark brown stick with a smooth orange rock wrapped around one edge of it, enough to wrap your hand around.
"This isn't?" she asked in awe, looking from the stick to Alister and back.
"My magic wand? Yes, but don't get excited, it isn't for witches, it's for elves." Alister told her.
"What! I'm a witch and I don't even get a wand." Gen complained.
"At least you get powers, now talk Gen." Therius ordered, putting the wand to her voice box.
"I don't know what to say." She boomed, her voice now echoing over the entire land. Therius handed her a piece of parchment with writing literally scribbled on either side.
"My name is Genevieve Grave and I am the daughter of Henry Grave, your king." she read from the paper. There were mixed emotions at this news. Some people cheers and other whispered in discontent. She decided that the best thing was to keep reading. "I have been away for eighteen years under the care of Miss. Grey but I'm back now. After the events that have transpired I have sustained injuries, but I'm healing to satisfaction giving the circumstances." God, who rights this crap, it's dry and stiff and literally sounds like my injuries included a stick being permanently shoved up my rectum.
"And is it true. Are you the heir to the throne?" a man shouted.
"Yes, I am the eldest blood relative to the king." Gen answered, her voice getting shakier with each word.
"And what of the prince of Ranicus, is Acruz Deveartae healing to satisfaction as you say?" a woman asked. She gulped, trying to find an answer to that question on the tiny piece of paper.
"Well?" another lady yelled. Gen stopped looking, and let the paper slip from fingers into wind.
"Acruz Deveartae is dead. It's hard to heal to anyone's satisfaction with an arrow between your eyes." Gen answered sharply turning from her crowd and back to the stairs. Alister grabbed her arm.
"Hey, what's the matter? You were doing really well. It's regrettably always hard the first time but you get the hang of it. Come on, Therius and I are here for you, just answer a few more questions and Therius will wrap up the rest." Alister said calmly.
"I don't know why the hell I thought I could handle this but I can't, I'm sorry. Doing this, having people look to me for answers when I don't have them. I don't want to be the one that tells thousands of people that royalty is dead because of me." she told him. He reached into his pocket and pulled out her mother's locket.
"Here, it will give you strength." he said simply, holding it out to her. She took it and wrapped it around her neck backwards, locking it in a single try and bringing to locket around to the front, flipping her hair out from under the delicate silver chain. She immediately felt more secure, more in control. It's just people, you're a person, talk to them like there people, she thought. She put the wand to her neck, faced her people and smiled, glowing with a warm light all her own.
"Are there any more questions I can answer for you?" she asked overlooking Akadia with her new found friend holding her shoulder and her brother holding her hand. This is exactly where I want to be, she thought. Genevieve was home.
