  Kody pulled away, and Maggie whimpered and tried to pull her back. But Kody reached into her pocket and pulled out the vial Di had given her. “Are you exhausted?”

  Maggie nodded, though her body was on fire.

  “Take a few sips of this.” She held the bottle to Maggie’s lips, her eyes dark with desire.

  Maggie didn’t care what it was, as long as Kody looked at her that way forever. It was sweet, like apples, but there was an earthy tang to it as well. Kody took it from her and drank the rest.

  Maggie’s skin began to tingle, and she felt like she’d had three cups of coffee. When Kody ran her hands over Maggie’s arms every nerve ending responded and she pressed into her.

  “A succubus energy drink, of sorts,” Kody murmured against her neck. “Just a little boost so we can enjoy the moment.”

  Maggie’s body tingled from her neck to her toes, and Kody’s touch inflamed her even more. She pulled her backward onto the bed. They shed their clothes between kisses. Kody sucked Maggie’s nipple into her mouth, and Maggie wrapped her hand in Kody’s hair to keep her there.

  “Oh God, Kody. Please…God, please don’t stop.” Maggie was gasping and arching, pushing her breast into Kody’s mouth as Kody held her other hand to the mattress. Just when it was becoming too much, Kody switched to the other nipple, driving Maggie’s desire to an unprecedented level. Blue lights flashed around them, singeing the air and lighting their bodies like an erotic art canvas.

  Kody’s body was sensual marble under Maggie’s hands, carved, muscular, but all woman. She was solid against Maggie’s soft, hard against Maggie’s need. When she slipped her fingers inside her, Maggie screamed and rose against Kody’s hand, her desire for Kody making her wild. She thrashed and grabbed at the sheets, at Kody’s shoulders, at the headboard, as Kody thrust into her, deep and fast. So, so perfect. She wrapped her leg around Kody’s waist, pulling her deeper, and Kody groaned against her hip, biting it as she fucked Maggie into oblivion.

  When Maggie’s orgasm came, it ripped through her, shredding her soul and letting Kody through any barrier there had ever been, drawing her in and making them a part of each other. Kody pushed her into another orgasm, and then another, and when she pressed her wet center against Maggie’s thigh and threw her own head back when she came, Maggie held her tight against her, loving the way her body moved as she let go.

  Maggie flopped onto the bed, utterly spent and completely owned. She opened her eyes when she felt something wet on her stomach. She looked down to see Kody staring up at her, cool tears falling onto Maggie’s hot skin.

  “What is it?” Maggie brushed away her tears with her thumb, but she could feel there wasn’t anything truly wrong. The little blue lightning bolts had faded away, leaving the air feeling like static waiting to ignite once more.

  Kody stroked Maggie’s side contemplatively. “That was amazing. You’re amazing.” She moved so she was lying half on Maggie, half on the bed. She stroked Maggie’s hair away from her face. “I love you, Maggie McShay. I think you’re the piece of myself I didn’t know was missing.”

  Maggie wondered if her heart could actually break with happiness. She took Kody’s face in her hands and kissed her softly, her heart in her throat. “I love you, too.”

  Kody lay beside Maggie and pulled her close. When the night breeze made Maggie shiver, Kody reached down and brought the sheet up over them. Maggie rested her head on Kody’s shoulder and snuggled as close as she could get, which didn’t feel close enough. Kody kissed the top of her head and whispered, “And they lived happily ever after.”

  Maggie smiled as another wave of energy flowed through her thanks to the potion. She loved, and she belonged. Life was more than she would have thought possible and, wrapped in arms she knew would always protect her, life would be everything she’d dreamed it could be. And so much more.

  She rolled on top of Kody and bit her bottom lip. “Let’s do that again.”

  By the time Kody came downstairs, Maggie had been up for hours working out the next part of what she wanted to do. Her body ached deliciously from their night of learning each other’s bodies in every way and in a large number of positions.

  Kody wrapped her arms around her waist and nuzzled her neck. “I was hoping for some good morning sex.”

  Maggie turned in her arms and wrapped her arms around Kody’s waist. “We can go back to bed later. My body needs to recover at least a little bit, and I had to get some stuff written down while I was thinking about it.”

  “Freaking morning people.” Kody yawned and stretched, and Maggie eyed her gorgeous defined six-pack.

  Before she could get sidetracked she turned to what she’d woken thinking about. “Is there a newspaper type of thing here? Like, one that goes across all the sectors?”

  Kody shook her head. “Not that I know of. The marketplace is where most people get news from other sectors. Why? Are you going to become a journalist so you can tell people whose heads you’ve cut off today?”

  Maggie punched her in the stomach and rolled her eyes when Kody bent over gasping and then straightened with a grin.

  “Read this and tell me what you think.”

  Kody ran her thumb over the paper thoughtfully. “You’re going to let people choose.”

  Maggie nodded, excited at the prospect. “Don’t you see? There are fairy tale creatures with no role who want to belong to a story. There are creatures like Nick who don’t want their roles and would rather run away to another world than stay trapped in their story. But someone else would love a chance to get to play the Big Bag Wolf. We can keep the characters and therefore keep the stories intact, but no one has to play a role they don’t want.” She took Kody’s hand, hoping she’d agree. She wouldn’t do it if Kody thought there were issues with it.

  Kody squeezed Maggie’s hand and went to the kitchen. She poured herself a drink and stared at the wall, thinking. Maggie let her think, trying hard not to interrupt her process. When Kody nodded and turned to Maggie with a smile, she thought her heart might burst. Again.

  “Really?” Maggie asked.

  “Really. I think it’s a fantastic plan. It’s going to turn some things upside down for a while, and you’re giving yourself a lot of work. I take it you’re going to use the story keepers to help you keep track of who is where?”

  Maggie nodded, excitement making her bounce on the stool. “Exactly. The creatures applying will come to me, or one of the other spinners once they’ve agreed to this, and then the story keepers will help get them situated in the story itself.” She jumped off the stool and went around to Kody, and was momentarily thrown off when Kody ran her hands through Maggie’s long hair. She refocused. “Everything stays balanced.”

  “What about the ones still in the other world?” Kody asked, massaging Maggie’s shoulders.

  “Mm.” Maggie leaned into Kody’s hands. “You and I will go back and forth. I think some, like Nick, should be allowed to stay if it’s what they really want and if they’re not messing with things there. But others, who are doing things they shouldn’t be or who could be a potential problem, have to come back here. We’ll have to figure out what to do with them on a case by case basis.”

  Kody lifted Maggie’s chin and gave her a lingering kiss. “Seems like you figured everything out. We’ll get your ad printed and handed out in the marketplace.” She cupped Maggie’s breast, and she grinned when Maggie moaned softly. “Sounds like we’ve got our work cut out for us, too.” She pulled back and looked at her searchingly. “Are you happy, Mags?”

  Maggie rested her head against Kody’s shoulder. “I couldn’t have spun
myself a better tale.”
