The Hidden Horses of New York: A Novel

by Natalie Keller Reinert

“I’d love that,” Jenny replied happily. “I talked to Caitlin the other day and she’s there for the rest of the winter meet. She thought maybe we could do a weekly Q and A session about different aspects of racehorse training that regular horse people might not know. Wouldn’t that be cool? And Lana is going to push them out to the horsey bloggers to tell their readers about.”

“Plus the press you’re going to get for this article… I guarantee more trainers are going to want you to broadcast what a good job they do caring for horses, not to mention retirement stories. This is going to get your phone ringing.”

Jenny smiled. “Hopefully Lana’s phone. She can handle all that. I’ll just show up and do the story.”

“Think you’ll have time to fit them all in?”

“All the stories?” Jenny looked at her laptop, the endless scroll of words to fill an endless scroll of empty page. Outside, a horse in a nearby pasture neighed, and a chorus of replies filtered through the open window. “Aidan, I don’t think I’ll ever run out of amazing horse stories I need to tell.”

Their eyes met, and they laughed together.

Writing this book has been a dream come true for me. A vague idea I had last year about millennials, living in New York City, who wanted to change horse racing for the better—it somehow came to life despite a tumultuous year, the publication of the fifth novel in the Eventing Series, and the writing of an entirely different story which hasn’t been released to the outside world yet.

My wonderful husband was, once again, a huge help in sorting out the ideas in my head and turning them into an actual plot with actual characters.

I am so thankful for my Patrons who support me monthly at Patreon. Living in the quiet, hard-working months between book releases can be scary. Knowing you’ve still got people in your corner during all those months of writing is a big comfort.
