Welcome to Spicetown

“Bobby will probably fall for that because he wants Ellis,” Cora sneered. “They all need to be held accountable.”
“I’m sure Ellis is involved. He probably did the thefts. I think Denise is the one telling him when and what to do. Behind all of that is June. That part surprised me.”
“It broke my heart to see Saucy tonight,” Cora said with her hand over her heart. “He can be an annoying little man, but he has a good heart and he wouldn’t hurt anyone. I’m sure he didn’t know how dangerous those boxes were. He would never have stored them if he had known they contained fireworks.”
Conrad smiled. Cora was a unique mixture of soft and strong. She had been angry with Saucy earlier that night but Conrad knew she only wanted the best for him. She was protective of her people and Harvey Salzman was one of her people. June had betrayed them all.
Conrad glanced at his phone when it vibrated with a text message. “Denise is on her way to county jail tonight.”
“Good riddance!” Cora shuffled her feet under the blanket. “You know, there seems to always be problems when we let new people into town. Can’t you do something to stop that?”
Cora laughed at her own joke and shifted in her chair. “If you’re going to live in Spicetown, you have to follow the law.”
“Oh, they know that and they try.” Conrad smiled at her sarcasm. “The rumor is they’re all afraid of the bad cop mayor.”
