  11. Why do you think that the author chose the title The Things We Thought We Knew for this book?

  12. At the end of the novel, Jonathan asks Ravine who she thinks is to blame, and she says:

‘I think carefully about his question. I see the image of Mrs Dickerson unconscious on your sofa, Uncle Walter disappearing down the side of the hill, Amma standing with the Soul-drinker by the taxi that night.

  “Everyone we knew,” I say.’

What is the novel saying about responsibility?
