Phoenix (Blackwings MC Book 3)

Patch cleared his throat, reminding me he was in the room. “Sorry, man,” I said to him. I redirected my attention to Annabelle. “We’ll step out so you can get dressed.”
“For what?”
“I’m taking you to have that ultrasound. Patch said the sooner the better and I’m not taking any chances with you, so let’s go, woman,” I ordered.
“Phoenix, I can’t just go have an ultrasound. I have to make an appointment first. Hell, I have to find an OB/GYN first,” she protested.
“Patch, you can do an ultrasound, right?” I asked.
“Yes, I can.”
“Doctor or not, you are not seeing or sticking anything in my hoo-ha!” Annabelle shouted.
I whirled around and looked at her like she had lost her mind. “What are you going on about?”
She rolled her eyes and huffed. “You’ve probably seen ultrasounds on television where they place the little magic wand on the woman’s belly and it’s a wonderful, heartwarming moment. That’s not how it happens in the real world. In the real world, they have to shove that magic wand up my hoo-ha and wiggle it around while my feet are up in stirrups to get a good look at what’s going on in there. And Patch is not fucking doing it!”
I glared at Patch and he held his hands up in surrender. “I have a good friend who is an OB/GYN. How about I give her a call and see if she has time to do a quick confirmation ultrasound for you?”
Annabelle huffed. “I guess I could be okay with that, as long as one of you promises to give me something for this relentless nausea.”
“If she doesn’t prescribe something for you, I will,” Patch promised.
Twenty minutes later, we pulled up in front of Patch’s friend’s office. They were closed for lunch, but she was more than happy to do a favor for Patch. She led us to a room and gave us a few minutes alone so I could undress and get into position. Phoenix stood completely still, taking in everything in the room with wide, almost panicked, eyes while I stripped off my clothes and tried not to puke on him.
The doctor returned a few minutes later, went over my history, explained the procedure, and got started, all the while Phoenix remained in his semi-shocked state. I made a small noise of discomfort when she inserted the wand and that seemed to snap him out of it. He was at my side in an instant, holding my hand and asking what was wrong.
I was quite uncomfortable and on the verge of throwing up again, so I snapped, “Let me shove a wand in one of your holes to look around inside your body and see how you feel.”
He opened his mouth to say something when the room was filled with a rapid whooshing sound. “That’s your baby’s heartbeat,” the doctor announced. The sound disappeared for a moment when she moved the wand, but it soon filled the room again. “And, that’s your other baby’s heartbeat. Congratulations! You’re having twins.”
Phoenix’s legs gave out and he collapsed into a chair that was thankfully behind him while I proceeded to throw up in his lap.
And that was how we found out that we were having twins for the second time.
