Kane closed his eyes and nuzzled against her neck. “You know they will. You told them where it was. They have to do it Rebecca. Jonathan knew the score. Now go to sleep.”
“I hope the nurse doesn’t throw you out.”
“She wouldn’t dare. I have an all access pass to you.”
“Charles told me last night that Anna is leaving everything to me in her will. I am not sure I want it or the responsibility,” she said wearily.
“You love a challenge. Besides it will keep you behind a desk and safe. Now go to sleep. I need you to get well. I have been thinking about making arrangements for us to be married in Paris.”
“My favourite city.”
“Yes, I know. Sleep. I am too tired to talk anymore.”
“I love you, Mr. Kane.”
“I love you too future Mrs. Kane.”
“Oh no, Ms Eaton-Kane.”
“Oh God, here we go. We’ll discuss this in the morning.”
“There’s nothing to discuss and that’s final.”
He sighed heavily. “Yes sir. Now can we please sleep.”
“We haven’t really stopped them have we. We’ve just rounded a few of them up.” She sounded despondent.
Kane lay silent for moment thinking. She was right, of course. You couldn’t just shut something like that down. There would be pockets that would keep going and would thrive again in time. That was the reality of life. There would always be a demand for organs and people willing to supply them for wealth. He told her his thoughts.
She sighed. “Well, I will just have to keep knocking them down.”
He said firmly, “Yeah, well you will be doing that from behind your desk.”
“We’ll see about that.”
Kane groaned inwardly. It was going to be a fight to keep her out of trouble but one he would relish.
