Touch Screen: a small town romance

Page 33

by L. B. Dunbar

“I think I’ll be okay alone for a while. It’s been a long time since it’s been only me,” I said, and I gave my sister a look, knowing that Pam would remember.

I thought back to my college sweetheart, whom I also thought would be the love of my life. We had a passionate relationship my junior and senior year at the university. When he graduated a year before I completed my studies, he declared his undying love for me. Then he ran off with his younger sister’s best friend to marry her instead. I was devastated, but began dating Trent a few months later. He was supposed to be my rebound man, as Pam had called him at first. Two years later, the rebound was still happening. Until a week ago.

Four solid years of failed relationships, and I meant what I said. I was looking forward to being alone, and doing things to please me, instead of pleasing others. Single white female seeks freedom.

Enjoy the sweeter side of L.B. Dunbar in this small town, big hearts romance about family and love. Each story may be read as a standalone but would be enjoyed collectively, if you like stories which weave together the lives of families.

I always add a little tidbit at the end and I just don’t have some inspiring story for this one, other than when the idea for Taste Test hit in August 2013, Fragrance Free followed almost immediately if not encroaching on top of the storyline for Ethan and Ella. But then Gavin snuck into my head on the heels of Jacob and Pam, and from roughly the beginning of September to the middle of November, I wrote three full length novels. It was an act of love for these characters.

Breast cancer is a serious issue for women, especially in my family. I do not take the situation of Sara Scott lightly, as her final days were quite similar to my aunt’s sad story. Please take care of yourself and have annual breast exams.

On a lighter note, thank you to you – for purchasing or winning – this book and taking the time to read Gavin’s story. The Carter and Scott families are very special, and I hope you love them as much as I do. Thank you for continuing on with their stories of love, self-discovery, family, heartbreak and happiness. One more sibling to come – Tricia in Sight Words.

A HUGE thank you to Jaimie Rivale (editor) who has been with me from the start and is very much a part of the Elk Rapids / Sensations Collection family. In 2018, this cover was updated by the wonderfully talented Shannon Passmore of Shanoff Designs. It takes my breath away.

To the numerous bloggers who share covers, read to review, and post teasers, much gratitude to you. I could never do this indie gig without you. To my street team, Dunbar’s Dreamers, who have had some amazing additions over the past months, and my special group, the Sexy Six: Tiffany, Tanisha, Mariela, Kristina, Sylvia and Marnie. For laughs and author intervention when needed, much love to you amazing ladies. To the BETA readers within the group: Angie, Danielle, Tiffany, Tanisha, Katie, Marnie, and Karen, for being awesome support and additional editors.

As always to my family: Mr. Dunbar, MD1, MD2, JR and A. For letting me have my dream even if I’m demanding it and don’t always put family first. In my heart and head, that’s where you are number one.

  About the Author

  www.lbdunbar.com

L.B. Dunbar loves the sweeter things in life: cookies, Coca-Cola, and romance. Her reading journey began with a deep love of fairy tales, medieval knights, Regency debauchery, and alpha males. She loves a deep belly laugh and a strong hug. Occasionally, she has the energy of a Jack Russell terrier. Accused—yes, that’s the correct word—of having an overactive imagination, to her benefit, such an imagination works well. Author of over two dozen novels, she’s created sweet, small town worlds; rock star mayhem; MMA chaos; sexy rom-coms for the over 40; and intrigue on an island of redemption. In addition, she is earning a title as the “myth and legend lady” for her modernizations of mythology as elda lore. Her other duties in life include mother to four children and wife to the one and only.
