Mac bit her breast. “My dad forced me to take on Remy and Paul for back up. Its good they came with me. I could barely drive with my wolf riding me so hard.”

“Does this alpha thing go both ways?”

  “What do you mean?”

“I’m your mate and I’m an alpha too. Can I command you to do what I want?”

  There was a long silence.

  “I’m not sure.”

Mac’s voice was wary. Jillian grinned and turned over some very interesting possibilities.

  “You’re trouble,” Mac growled.

“You’re attracted to trouble, obviously,” Jillian said loftily.

Mac’s hands ran over her body soothingly. It’s what she needed after meeting her father and seeing Rex again. She knew all wolves weren’t the same. Mac was a good wolf and he was hers. The wolf behind the murder of her mother was gone and she closed her eyes and with her mate by her side, said goodbye to her mother. “I’m proud of you, baby. I’ll be watching out for you.” Jillian swallowed hard and kissed Mac.

  “Okay?” he murmured.

  She nodded. “I’m hungry.”

Mac tried to push her head down. “You can get me ready again.”

She slapped him and reached for her clothes. “Not that kind of hungry.”

They walked back to the house with their arms around each other. Jillian’s steps faltered when she saw their pack lounging on the porch, waiting for them. She felt like a teenager returning home after an illicit tryst. She’d never been the center of attention before and it was her own fault that there was nowhere to retreat to. She was responsible for more than half of the onlookers.

  “Everything okay?” Remy called.

“Yeah, she finally understands,” Mac said and she shoved him away.

“You told her you love her?” Olivia asked.

All the men stared at her and she hung her head, embarrassed.

“Yes, I told her,” Mac said, breaking the tension. “I also claim her as my mate.”

Flora clasped her hands together. “So romantic!”

The pack followed their alphas into the house and sat or stood around as they ate. When Mac pushed his plate away, the pack waited expectantly. Jillian raised her brows as everyone waited for him to speak.

“Tomorrow we’ll buy wood to build more houses,” Mac said.

Olivia didn’t make a sound, but she hopped up and down excitedly.

“We complete each house before we start on the next.” Mac glanced at Flora. “You’ll meet with me tomorrow and tell me what you can do with your magic and how it can help the pack.”

Flora gave him a salute. “Yes, Alpha.”

Mac’s eyes were hard as he said, “You’re safe here. As long as you don’t put the pack in danger or betray us, you’ll live. If you have any questions, it’ll have to wait until tomorrow.”

Mac got to his feet, hauled Jillian over one shoulder and walked up the stairs to his room while wolf whistles followed. Hanging over his shoulder, Jillian saw Flora and Olivia winking and fanning themselves before Mac walked into his room. He locked the door and tossed her on the bed. She braced herself on her elbows to watch him undress and licked her lips. She had plans for Cormac Mercer.

“That was your big speech?” she teased.

“I’m not that kind of alpha.”

  “What kind are you?”

“The kind that has more important things to do than make speeches. I have my mate to see to.”

She gasped when he bit her neck and slid his fingers inside of her. “You’re going to make a great alpha.”

  “I’ll make sure of it.”
