“You ruined my game plan,” I tell him, and he just smirks.

“And what was that?” he asks as someone bumps into me, and I have to move closer to him. Unlike the first time when he put his hand on my ass to bring me closer to him.

“I was supposed to bump into you at the bathroom,” I say, and he laughs now. “Then I was supposed to lead you to the bar.”

“Really?” he says. I tilt my head back, and unlike the first time, he leans forward and kisses me out in the open. “I like my plan better,” he says, and I look at him now. Standing, he takes my hand and leads me to the closet right next to the bathroom. He opens the door and pulls me in.

“Is this your plan?” I ask when he pushes me against the door.

“No,” he says. His hand goes to the door handle, and he locks the door. He pushes my skirt up. “That night, I was dying to touch you.” His hands go to my bare ass.

“Show me,” I say as his mouth crashes to mine. His tongue slips into my mouth, and my stomach goes in every single direction. My skirt is bunched around my waist now, my hands at his button, and in three seconds, his cock is in my hands. He lets go of my mouth to attack my neck. He picks me up and presses me into the door. He rubs himself across my slit, and my head hits the door. “Manning,” I say as he slides himself all the way in me.

He buries his face in my neck as he fucks me hard. My arms are wrapped around his neck, and my fingers are buried in his hair. The sound of us panting fills the room. “I’m going to.” I start, and he knows. He knows my body better than I do. I thought the sex would lessen a bit as we got more and more involved, but it just grew. We still have sex every single morning when he’s home. It’s like his body is an alarm clock, and he wakes up with just enough time before we really have to get up. Every single night when we slide into bed, we reach for each other. I close my eyes, and I come all over his cock, when not more than three hours ago, I did the same. He plants himself all the way in me, and my name on his lips as he comes in me.

“Hmm,” I say, ready for a nap. “You know what someone wise once told me?”

He takes his head out from my neck and looks me in the eyes. This gorgeous man makes my heart flutter every single time he walks into the room. The man who has the biggest heart and will do whatever he needs to do to make sure I’m happy and his son is happy. The man who is so quiet, yet with just one touch, I know what he’s thinking. “What’s that?” he asks with his cock still in me.

“There is never a third without a second,” I tell him, and he laughs at me. “I have a surprise for you.”

He slips out of me, putting me down on my shoes. “I thought this was a surprise,” he says, tucking himself back into his pants. I pull my skirt down and fix myself.

“You ready?” I ask, and he nods as I unlock the door. “Text Miller and Ralph that something came up.”

He smirks at me. “Something is coming up right now,” he says, taking out his phone and sending the text. I slip my hand into his, and I walk with him out the door and toward the hotel. “Where are we going?”

“You’ll see.” I pull him to the elevator, and it is very much different from the last time where he waited for me. This time, there is no mistaking we are together. The elevator is there, and we get in, and I press the number to the floor. When we get off on the floor, I look over at him. “One year ago, my life changed.” I take the key out of my purse and open the hotel room.

“This is the room where . . .?” he says, stepping in and seeing the soft lights on and a bucket of champagne on the table with strawberries and whipped cream. I toss my purse onto the single couch and look over at him. He stands there wearing his black suit, similar to that night.

“It’s in this room one year ago where I gave myself to a man I didn’t know. It’s in this room I woke up and looked over and was awestruck with how beautiful he was,” I tell him, and I smile. “I walked out of this room the next day, and my heart was heavy, thinking that I would never see you again.”

“Evelyn,” he says my name softly.

“But fate had other plans for us,” I tell him. “I can’t imagine this life without you in it.” I walk to him, and he shocks me by getting down on one knee. I stop in my tracks as my hands fly to my mouth in shock.

“One year ago, I met a girl, and she brought me back to life. I didn’t know at the time that I was drowning. I thought this was the best I could do,” he says. “But then I kissed her, and it’s like my heart started beating again. Evelyn, you’ve shown me what unconditional love is. You’ve shown me that love can be sweet, and it can be fun, and it can be beautiful. It can make you a better person.” He reaches into his pocket. “I was going to do this tomorrow,” he says. “I picked it up today, but I guess just like us meeting, things don’t always go as planned.” He opens the ring box, and I don’t even care what is inside because my eyes never leave his. “Evelyn, will you be my wife? Will you stand beside me, holding my hand forever? Will you have babies with me?” I don’t answer him. I can’t answer him. The lump in my throat turns into a sob as I nod my head. I walk over to him and put my hand on his cheeks.

“This is so much better than my surprise,” I say to him, and he laughs, picking me up and spinning me around.

“Before you ask,” he says, putting me down. “I asked your father and Jaxon.” I throw my head back, laughing because that would have been my next question. “Now, can I put the ring on you”—he takes the ring out of the brown box— “so I can use that chocolate syrup on you?” He motions his head to the table.

“Only if I get to use the whipped cream first,” I tell him, and in the room where we lost ourselves one year ago, he slips a four-carat square diamond ring onto my finger.

“Well, look at who showed up.” I hear Evelyn say, and I look up laughing.

“I get the whole playoff beard.” She comes into the room now, and I look at her, and my heart fills. She brings her hand up to my trimmed beard. “There he is.” Her eyes light up. “Hi.” She bends down and kisses my lips. “You were looking a bit too much like the Duck Dynasty bunch.”

I laugh now. We went to the third round of playoffs and lost game fucking seven. To be honest, we never thought we would get past round one. We just rode the wave, and what a wave it was. We have the itch for it now, so there will be no stopping us next season. “If you don’t put her down, she is going to expect to sleep in your arms every night.” I look down at our one-week-old daughter as she squirms in my arms.

“We really timed it well.” I kiss her cheek, and she squirms even more. Victoria was born three days after we were eliminated, a full seven days late, and weighed in at nine pounds. “You knew, didn’t you, baby girl?” I look up at my wife. Yeah, my wife. The single gold band on my finger shines. When she found out she was pregnant, something was missing for both of us. She would never tell me, but I knew that it bothered her we were not married. My girl was traditional that way, especially with the baby coming. I knew she didn’t care what kind of wedding we had, so with the help of our mothers, we got married on Christmas Day.

“Why are you out of bed?” I ask, and she smiles at me.

“I missed you,” she says and looks down at our daughter, “and I wanted to check on her.” She rubs down our daughter’s face, and my daughter blinks her eyes open.

“Did you eat?” I ask, and she nods.

“Your mother just put the leftovers away,” she says, smiling at me. “I’m going to miss her when she goes.” Just another reason I love her. She has welcomed my family with open arms and even had my parents stay here during Christmas while we planned a wedding. She didn’t even bat an eye when my brother and sister came. The only thing she did was order more blow-up beds for the kids. Our house is a home and is open to everyone.

Victoria starts to squawk, and I look up at Evelyn. “Is it time?”

“She ate about an hour ago,” she says, and I get up so she can sit down. I
nstead, she looks at me and tilts her head back, and I lean down and kiss her. “I’m going to go lie down.”

Following Evelyn to our bedroom with Victoria in my arms, I place her in the bassinet beside the bed. “Where is Jaxon?” Evelyn asks. She has become his second mom, embracing her role with everything she has. And he is thriving because of it. She didn’t force it down his throat like Murielle tried to force Thomas down his throat. They are now married and in the middle of getting divorced. It seems Thomas isn’t as nice as I am with people fucking his wife, but I couldn't care less. I try to respect her in front of Jaxon, but that is where our relationship ends.

“He is at your brother’s house with Caleb.” I laugh, getting into bed with her. “He is over his baby sister and her nighttime routine.”

“He isn’t the only one,” she says, closing her eyes just as Victoria yells. “I swear it’s like she feels my body relaxing.”

She sits up, grabbing our daughter from the bassinet to hold her. “You are more beautiful than the first time I met you,” I say, and she looks over at me.

“Then I think you need to get your eyes checked.” She laughs, grabbing the pillow and lifting her blouse to feed our daughter.

“Are you done watching?” She looks over at me, and I lean over to kiss her.

“Who would have thought that after only one night, we would be here?” I say, and she looks down at our daughter. I look up at the frame that was over her bed and now hangs over ours. “You will forever be my always.”

The phone on my nightstand starts to ping, one after another, and I look at her. “What in the world?” I say, and then her phone beeps three times.

I pull up my phone and read the headlines.

Dallas Oilers Owner and Most Eligible Bachelor is no more. Nico Harrison marries oil heiress Laurene Christy.

“Oh my god,” Evelyn says from beside me. “Where’s Becca?”

I pick up the phone and dial Becca, who doesn’t answer. “Becca, it’s me.” I can only imagine what she’s going through. “Call me. Come here. I’m here.”

“They were just here together,” Evelyn says, and I look down at my phone, hoping someone can answer the question on everyone’s mind.

  Where is Becca?
