“What did you call me?”
“You heard me, Cowgirl. I called you Willa McDaniel. I’m willing to negotiate about a lot of things, but I have three non-negotiables: one, we’re getting married; two, you’re changing your last name; and three, I’m putting this ring on your finger before we leave this bedroom.”
“You could ask me nice,” she teased.
“Or I could do it the way John did and be paddling your backside when I put this ring on your finger.”
“No,” Willa exclaimed. “She never told me.”
“I don’t care. Get your ass over here, and let’s put this ring on your finger.”
She sauntered over to him. “You really want to marry me, Marshal McDaniel?”
“I’ve never wanted anything more in my entire life.”
He stood up and pulled her close before placing the ring on her offered finger.
“It’s gorgeous, Mac. It’s like a sunrise.”
“And they’re like you—bright, magical, and full of the promise of what each new day will bring. Be my sunrise, Willa.”
She nodded. “Only if you’ll be my sunsets—deep, seductive, and with the assurance of comfort and renewal.”
He lightly grasped her buttocks, drawing her more tightly against him as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Forever mine, Willa.”
“Always and forever, Mac.”
