Shattered Skye (The Skye Chronicles Book 3)

“I pushed you away once because I thought it was for your own good. I was stupid and I’m never going to do that again. I’ll never take away your freewill. If you don’t want me then I won’t push myself on you, however Skye, I know you want me.” The look on his face made her frown. Pure masculine pride. Men.
“I may want you sexually and my body may respond to you, but that doesn’t mean I want you in my heart.” The look of hurt on his face made her want to flinch, yet she kept her face from reacting to his pain.
“You may not want me in your heart but make no mistake sweetheart, I am in there,” he shot back. Skye shut her eyes praying for patience. She wanted to strike out and hurt him both physically and emotionally. She knew deep down that would do neither of them any good. Skye opened her eyes to find him watching her patiently.
“Why don’t you just go hang out with Buck or something?”
“I’m sorry.” She could tell by the gruffness of his voice he meant it. “I didn’t mean to hurt you then or now. I never want to hurt you again, Skye. I love you.” Skye looked into his deep dark eyes and nodded slightly.
“I love you too, but that doesn’t change anything.”
“It may not change it now believe this though, I’ll find a way to make things better. As long as you still love me then there’s hope.” He lifted his hand cautiously, slowly brushing her cheek with his hand. Skye leaned her face into his hand and closed her eyes. She felt his hand leave her face slowly. When she opened her eyes he was no longer there.
Skye let out a sigh of relief. Emotionally she had been torn in so many different directions that she didn’t need to rehash that situation with him quite yet. They had only been in the cabin for a few weeks and she was not ready to start any type of relationship with anyone. Life and death stalked them from every corner of Earth and beyond. Her feelings could wait.
Chapter Two
Skye felt like she wanted to crawl out of her own skin. The overcrowded living room felt ten times too small to hold all the people inside of it. Gary had called a meeting for all those staying with them and Skye wished she could have been excluded. Although looking around she had to admit she was amused to see so many demons, elves, and other supernaturals all sitting together in such a small space.
Skye was sitting in the floor with her legs crossed. She had hoped by not sitting on the couches she would avoid the sandwich she ended up always being ‘the meat’ for, but no such luck. Maddox was to her right and Mike to her left. Skye summoned a patience she never knew she had to keep from losing it each time they decided to sit like this. She knew that if she got up and moved that they would find a way to follow her so there was no use and no escape.
“I know this hasn’t been the most comfortable place to be but I just wanted to thank you all once again for being here to help protect my daughter.” Gary said immediately getting everyone’s attention. Skye wrapped her arms around herself and smiled at her dad.
“Look we are here to help Skye because of Maddox,” a demon named Rafe spoke up. “Maddox needs help so we are here for him, but what’s the plan here? Are we planning on hiding out in the woods forever? No offense, but I’m bored as hell.” Rafe flipped his medium length dirty blonde hair out of his face.
“We aren’t here to have fun. Skye is training so she can be ready for battle if it comes.” Evan interjected.
“When it comes you mean.” another demon spoke up.
“We don’t know…” Cloud began but was cut off.
“We do know. Let’s not pretend that demons and elves as well as all the other supes out there are suddenly going to forget that there’s a prophecy about Skye. She will be a target as long as she lives.” Buck said with a shrug. “Sorry but I’m not going to sugar coat it. I love Skye like a sister, but this isn’t just going to go away.”
“No. It won’t go away. I know that and I think we all do whether we want to face it or not.” Gary said with a small nod.
“What are we supposed to do? Take on the whole supernatural community?” Rafe asked.
“If we have to.” Kel looked at him as if she was daring him to back talk her. Rafe apparently wasn’t afraid to step up to the plate.
“Smart plan sweetheart. There are more supes out there than we can even imagine.” Kel leaned forward striking out quickly and punched Rafe in the jaw. Rafe grabbed his jaw with a smile on his face. A demon enjoying pain? No one was surprised at that revelation. Rafe looked to Buck who was sitting with his arm around Kel.
“Dude, you didn’t even try to stop her.” Rafe said. Buck shrugged unapologetically.
“Yeah. If I had, she would have punched me. Sorry but my face is too pretty to be damaged.” Rafe flipped Buck off but sat back out of Kel’s reach.
“This is going well.” Skye muttered under her breath.
“Demons are always quick to want to fight.” Mike whispered beside her. Maddox looked over Skye’s head into Mike’s eyes.
“Best you remember that.” Maddox grumbled.
“What you want to fight big boy?” Mike started to stand, but Skye grabbed his arm keeping him on the ground.
“Geez guys seriously? First of all, we are not going to fight amongst ourselves when the rest of the world is after our group right now. Secondly Mike, you seem to forget that I’m part demon as well so comments like that suck.” Skye said sighing.
“Sorry.” Mike muttered ashamed. Maddox smiled slightly, which made Skye want to punch him in the jaw but, she refrained. Barely.
“There has to be something we can do to convince them that Skye isn’t dangerous.” Cloud’s soft voice filled the room. Skye looked to her mother and wished it were that simple. Skye knew no matter if they were demons, elves, supes, or humans, that when fear motivated groups to act that they rarely wanted to listen to reason.
“What I don’t understand is why everyone is so convinced that Skye is who the prophecy is about. She’s certainly not the first child to be born of mixed bloodlines. Gary you are proof of that since you yourself are of mixed bloodlines.” Evan pointed out.
Skye looked to Evan thoughtfully. He had a point didn’t he? Many supernaturals interbred. She wasn’t the first and she surely was not going to be the last. So why was she a target? Why were they so convinced that she was the great evil that was going to end their world?
“The supernatural world felt Skye’s birth.” Maddox spoke up. Skye turned to look at him shocked.
“What?” Skye whispered.
“My father says that’s why everyone is after you. When you were born it created so much magic, so much force, that every supernatural felt it. It lines up with your birth and that is why they are convinced it is you.” Skye shook her head trying to process the information he had shared.
“Then why did they wait to come after her?” Kel asked. Everyone looked to Maddox wondering the same thing.
“No one could be sure they had felt her birth because of the prophecy. Many thought that it was because she was to be the new leader of your home realm and just had great power. It wasn’t until she used her demonic powers to save Mike and Cloud that her full power manifested. That’s when it became obvious that she was the child of prophecy.”
Maddox looked into Skye’s eyes apologetically. He had not hidden the information from her, yet he had never openly shared it either. He had tried to leave any part of his father behind him, but the information Luke knew explained why everyone wanted Skye dead.
The room fell silent as they all tried to decide what to do or say next. Skye felt the tension in the room swallowing her whole. She looked each person in their face, going from one to the next realizing they were all putting their lives on the line for her. She wondered if she truly was dangerous and if by keeping her safe they weren’t damning themselves.
“Maybe they are right.” Skye said before she even realized the words had left her lips. “If I am dangerous and I’m going to end the world then this fight is for nothing.”
“Bullshit!” Ma
ddox spat loudly.
“No that’s not true!” Several people exclaimed. Others were silent. Skye knew as much as their loyalties were with her that they also wondered the same thing. She could not blame them.
“Skye we are going to protect you.” Gary said looking down at her from across the room. “I’m not letting anything happen to you.” Skye gave him a small sad smile.
“It’s not up to you. I’m sorry, but it’s not.” Skye stood up, walked to the side of the living room, and turned to face the room. “If my death means that the rest of you get to go on living your lives then I shouldn’t be here anymore. One life is not worth many.”
“Stop it! I refuse to listen to you give up!” Kel yelled. Buck held onto Kel to keep her in her seat. He was struggling to keep her still but Kel really wasn’t putting up much of a fight. She was in so much shock at her friend’s words that it almost paralyzed her.
“I’m not giving up. I’m giving in. My life is not more important than anyone one of yours! I refuse to let any of you die to protect me if I’m going to be the cause of your death anyways! It makes no sense.”
“Skye, none of us are going to allow you to die.” Maddox growled the words at her.
“He’s right. We will find another way.” Cloud said. Skye nodded her acceptance. Inside of her heart she knew she had to be willing to go through with it if it came down to it. Looking at each person in the cabin she knew she would. She would sacrifice her life for her family, her friends, the demons, and even her ex.
Chapter Three
Maddox crawled onto Skye’s bed slowly, careful to not startle her awake. Her eyes were closed with her long lashes nearly touching her cheeks. Her soft mouth was open slightly. She was more beautiful than he could stand. She had always been the most exquisite being he had ever seen and the more she matured the more he wanted her.
Maddox laid on his side facing her. He took a long strand of her pale hair in his fingers and twirled it around. He closed his eyes remembering a time when her hair would tumble over his body as they lay entwined making love. The thought nearly made him groan.
Skye shifted her body letting out a heavy breath. Maddox froze trying to decide if he should escape now or be caught. He wasn’t trying to be a stalker but he needed to be near her. He saw her eyes flutter open and decided he would rather be caught. He couldn’t walk away from her if he tried.
Skye opened her eyes and gasped seeing him in her bed. Maddox couldn’t help a rueful smile. Skye sighed clutching the cover over her body. She rolled to her side to face him.
“Really?” she whispered.
“I wasn’t doing anything if that makes you feel any better.” Maddox said with a huge smile.
“Yeah, I feel much better. My ex-boyfriend just crawled into my bed in the middle of the night, that’s normal.” Skye rolled her eyes.
“Since when has anything about us ever been normal?” Skye pursed her lips.
“True. Still kind of creepy to just get into someone’s bed.”
“Skye, you scared me tonight.” Maddox confessed in a hushed tone. He looked down at the sheets unable to look her in the face. Skye thought for a moment before answering. She wanted to play dumb but she knew what he meant and she wasn’t going to pretend she didn’t.
“It’s a reality we may have to face, Maddox.” He shook his head as soon as she spoke.
“No it’s not. I will never let you die. No one else here will either. You are loved whether you want to be or not.” Maddox put his hand on her cheek softly stroking her face.
Skye felt the electric charge between them and nearly moaned at the feeling. She leaned her face into his hand and closed her eyes. The internal struggle to let him touch her or to tell him to leave was unbearable. She knew she still loved him and still wanted him but she didn’t want or need the distraction of a lover.
Skye opened her eyes looking deep into Maddox’s dark eyes. His face was slowly closing in on hers. She knew she had seconds to decide if she wanted him to leave or not. He hadn’t cheated on her like she had thought. He had lied to try to save her from his family. He did it out of love. The pain of the betrayal still hurt although not as much as it once did. Would it be so bad to be kissed by someone you loved? Especially if you knew that you may not have long to live.
“Tell me to stop and I will.” She felt his breath on her face and the scent drove her mad. He was addicting like chocolate. She needed and wanted him so badly she could feel it in every bone in her body. Skye looked down to his lips then back into his face.
“Please. Please don’t stop.” she whispered nearly breathless from need. Maddox’s eyes lit up as if a fire had been set behind them.
He wanted to rush. He wanted to take her mouth harshly and hard. He wanted to but he didn’t. He slowly brushed his lips over hers barely touching her lips. Her breathing increased. Maddox rolled over on top of Skye. Gently, he pressed his lips onto hers again, this time so softly that she could barely feel him. She whimpered at the teasing kiss.
Skye grabbed the back of Maddox’s head and pulled him down to her mouth. She took his mouth harshly and impatiently. Thrusting her tongue inside of his mouth, she moaned at the superb taste of him. He tasted like life. Life she needed.
He responded with such passion. A passion that she had missed. Skye opened her legs to make a place for him. He settled between her legs but focused on her mouth. The sugary taste of her lips was exactly what he had dreamed about for months.
Maddox broke the kiss to look down into her face. She was flushed and more beautiful every time he saw her. Skye sat up slightly pulling her shirt off and threw it to the ground. Maddox bit his lip trying to control himself. She wasn’t wearing a bra.
“Touch me.” Skye grabbed his hand and placed it on her breast. Maddox had thought he was close to exploding before. He knew now he wouldn’t last long with her. His need was too great.
“You are so beautiful.” he whispered lowering his head to kiss her neck softly. He palmed her breast, gently massaging it. His thumb rubbed over her nipple. Skye gasped raising her hips instinctively needing to rub against him. Maddox groaned.
“Not here. Too many ears.” he whispered into her ear. Before she could respond, she felt a wind around her and then saw the starry skies above them. Skye looked around and laughed. He had transported them on the top of the mountain.
“Nice.” Skye laughed again. Maddox looked down at her.
“Are you sure? Because I…” Skye silenced him by taking his mouth with her own. He groaned into the kiss.
“Don’t offer to stop again. If I wanted to stop I would have. I want this. Please just shut up and take what I’m offering you.” Skye said in between kisses. Maddox wanted to laugh but she flicked her tongue over his distracting him and effectively shutting him up.
Maddox lifted himself off of her removing his clothes as quickly as possible. He bent over Skye’s body and slowly pulled her shorts off leaving her only in white lace cotton panties. He licked his lips as he pulled the small piece of clothing off of her body revealing every inch of her natural beauty to him.
“You are so beautiful it hurts.” Maddox whispered. Then without another word, he claimed her soft warm lips again. Skye responded with a hunger for him in a way he had never felt from her before. She had always desired him, yet this was different. This time she wasn’t shy or meek. She was taking charge of her body. It thrilled him to his very core to feel her be so strong.
Skye’s hands grabbed at Maddox almost wildly. Her desire and need to touch him anywhere, everywhere was almost overwhelming. His arousal was growing harder against her thigh as he lay on top of her kissing her softly. Skye was sure she would spontaneously combust from the heat they were sharing. The electric pull made their connection even more potent.
Skye pushed him gently knowing he would move with her. She rolled him underneath her. She straddled him and smiled down at him. He shook his head in disbelief at the strong beautiful creature on top of his body and s
ilently thanked all the Gods for such an incredible being.
“I want to go slow. You deserve slow.” Maddox said looking up at her grabbing her hips before she took him. Skye shook her head.
“I need you too much to go slow or gentle.” Skye moved his hands from her hips to her breasts then sunk down on his length. The exquisite feel of him inside of her made her cry out immediately. Maddox let out an inhumane sounding growl.
Skye bent over taking his mouth as she rocked her body on his quickly. She was true to her word and did not go slowly. She moved quickly. She slipped her tongue inside of his mouth, nibbling on his lip as she rode an intense wave of pleasure.
The fantasies Skye had had about Maddox didn’t even compare to the reality. In reality he was so much more in every way. Every touch of his hand on her body set her on fire. Every time he took her nipple into his mouth she cried out. With each flick of his tongue on her body she took him deeper and faster within her.
Maddox rolled Skye beneath him taking control of their love making. The moon lit up her pale body in a way that made her so beautiful that he felt angels would cry in her presence. Maddox moved at a slower pace trying to extend the pleasure longer but Skye wouldn’t obey. She moved her hips up rising to meet his thrusts and drove him to the edge of sanity.
“Maddox,” she said on a gasp.
Skye rolled Maddox over straddling him once again. Maddox sat up holding her body against his as she rode him. Their bodies both slick from sweat held onto each other tightly. Skye’s fingernails dug into Maddox’s shoulders and neck to anchor herself to him. She felt so high off of him that she was sure she would float away.
Their bodies fought for dominance, neither wanting to relinquish control, both needing more. Maddox would roll her beneath him taking control then Skye would fight to take control back. Maddox couldn’t take it anymore the pleasure was too much. Lifting her in his arms, he pressed her against a tree. He thrust inside of her hard and quickly. They both yelled out in unison.
