Protectors of Emperia

“Not so fast, you little pests!” said Mrs. Cane flying up on rocket-powered boots. She brought out a spiraling violet wand. She shouted two words that Sabrina didn’t understand, and a blast of light shot out. It felt like everything was going in slow-motion as Sabrina reached her wing into Simon’s furry pocket and brought out three green balls. She thrust them at the blinding force of light.
They collided together, and Sabrina closed her eyes as a powerful force-field appeared behind them, blocking the spell.
The last thing Sabrina saw was an angry Mrs. Crane pounding against the force-field, and shouting ugly curse words that, I promise you would not want to hear. They flew out into the sky, grabbed hands, and disappeared.
CHAPTER TEN
POPULAR
Sabrina nearly kissed the ground as the lush meadows of Wolfighter appeared in front of her. Ignoring her friends, she ran toward the building at an incredible speed and swung open the door like a mad man. She beamed with pride, even when a few students glared at her. If she wasn’t in such a happy mood, then she would have glared at them back. She practically flew the stairs. Well, that was until she got to the thirty-seventh floor. She cleared her mind and concentrated on herself lifting through the air. She opened her eyes and nearly fainted with fear when she realized that her feet were—TWO-HUNDRED FEET ABOVE THE GROUND! But, she survived. Landing softly on a velvet carpet, she almost jumped when someone called her name.
“Sabrina, is that you?”
Sabrina whipped around. A girl with blond hair tied in a ponytail ran up to her. She wore a lime green dress tied with an emerald sash. She had light–blue eyeliner and teal eyes. Her dress swished and swayed with every step she took, making her look like a princess, minus the crown.
“Oh, my goodness! Hello. My name is Marigold. I’ve heard all about you! You’re the one with those super cool powers and those two friends of yours, Miles and Simon. Aren’t they so hot? I’ve got to see them.” When Marigold noticed the anxious expression on Sabrina’s face, she lowered her voice. “Do you mind showing them to me one time?” she shuffled her feet.
“Shure!” Sabrina said. “I’d be delighted!”
“Thanks! You’re the best friend ever!” she lowered her voice again. “I mean, that’s if you want to be friends.”
“Are you crazy? I’d totally be your friend!”
“Best Friends?” the girl asked, putting out her hand.
Sabrina shook her hand and followed her as she explained how she had seen her lift into the air and immediately wanted to be her friend. The praise was enough to make Sabrina blush with pride. She walked past the main entrance. Several people caught up with her, bombarding her with questions of how she had teleported to the Moonbeams layer and beat them in a battle or something. Sabrina wasn’t always listening. She was mostly thinking of how they had found out that they had been in the Moonbeams layer. As if she had read her mind, Marigold answered, “Mr. Tucker met up with other mentors to see where you had gone blah, blah, blah. Then they finally settled that you went to the Moonbeams layer. You should have seen how the news spread. It was like a wildfire. In thirty minutes, everybody in the school was talking about it. And they all wanted to meet you. They just didn’t know how.”
Sabrina blushed. When she first came here, she had been unwanted and unwelcome. Now everybody wanted to know her. It was like she was...popular. She wanted to be known. No more sulking anymore. Now she was going to be strong and put the past behind her. She took a deep breath and took another step—the step into the new world.
