“When everything’s cleaned up.”
“Of course.”
“Where’s Werner?” Jeanie had been in too much pain to know if Werner had come to wait with Amos.
“Waiting at home to hear the news. Amos has just gone to the barn to call him.”
“Good.”
Magda stared down at the baby. “He looks just the same as Malachi.”
Jeanie smiled at her mother-in-law’s remark. She was certain newborn babies all looked similar.
Once the room had been cleaned and the baby was diapered and swaddled in a soft wrap, Sandra and Magda stepped out of the room, and Amos walked in. Jeanie looked up at him and smiled. “Here he is.”
Amos walked closer. “Are you okay?”
“I am now. It was harder than I expected, and a little longer than I'd hoped.”
Amos leaned down and kissed her forehead and then looked at the baby. “He’s so beautiful, and so small. He’s such a miracle.”
“I know. I just can’t stop staring at him. Look how perfect his fingernails are.”
“Can I touch him? My hands are clean.”
“Jah.”
Amos leaned down and touched the baby’s hand. “I’ve never been so close to a young boppli like this.”
“You’ll be his stepvadder once we marry.”
He chuckled and then she saw tears in his eyes. “I’m looking forward to it. We’ll make it soon, jah?”
“I’d like that.”
“I’ll be the best Dat ever and the best husband.”
“I know you will, you won’t even have to try.”
He leaned over and kissed her forehead. “Denke, for giving me a second chance.”
“Seems like we’ve all been given a second chance.”
Slowly, Amos nodded.

It was five weeks later that Amos and Jeanie married. They had the ceremony at the potato farm.
After the wedding, Amos moved onto the farm with them. First, he made himself busy building onto the old house to make it bigger, and then he renovated the old section to make it nicer.
Magda and Werner were pleased that Jeanie and the baby hadn’t moved away to Amos’s house. And Amos enjoyed learning as much as he could about being a potato farmer. He was out in the fields most days working with Werner giving Magda and Jeanie the opportunity to stay in the house looking after the much-loved baby, Aaron.

Two years on.
A baby sister, Patricia, arrived for Aaron, and soon after that, Werner became engaged to a girl from the same community. To keep him at the farm, Amos and Jeanie made plans for a second haus to be built on a plot of unused land behind the barn.
Jeanie never forgot her first husband, always grateful to God for having had Malachi in her life for those few short years. The man responsible for his death was now behind bars serving fifteen years. It wasn’t long enough in Jeanie’s mind, but she did her best not to focus on that. Detective Graeme had recently informed her that it was possible Tony would be charged with Booker's death, too, as their investigation had revealed tampering with the vehicle that had killed Malachi.
Jeanie left all of that in God's hands, and she enjoyed what she had today — a happy home, with those to whom she was closest.
Amos was grateful to Gott that Malachi had brought Jeanie to their community, and after Malachi's death, Jeanie had grown to love him as much as he loved her.

Five years on.
* * *
Jeanie woke when her husband gently shook her shoulder. She opened her eyes to see his worried face. “What is it?”
“We had a frost overnight.”
She got up and hurried to the window to see a blanket of white covering their newly planted fields. The dark days she’d been through after Malachi’s death had taught her a thing or two. “We’ll do what we can to salvage the crop.”
“I thought you’d be more upset.”
Turning around, she looked into Amos’s dark eyes. “How can I be? Gott has blessed me with so much. I have you and our kinner. How can I be upset over frost? Everything is just as Gott wants it, and that means Gott wanted there to be a frost. He always takes care of us.” Through her dark years, she’d learned that everything worked out how it was meant to happen.
“I love you, Mrs. Troyer.”
Jeanie giggled as her husband picked her up and spun her in a circle. She had finally learned that struggling and worrying were pointless when God was in charge. Everything that happened was already in God’s perfect and loving plan, so why was there a need to worry? They would do what they could, knowing He would always take care of them.
