“Thanks for the information, bye,” said Mona as she closed Candy’s cell phone shut. That’s one stupid bitch, she thought.

“Who was that?” Candy asked just as the nurse brought the baby back in, all clean and wrapped up in his blue blanket.

“It was just some ole telemarketer. I just listened because the deal did sound pretty good.” Mona attempted to smile.

“Those telemarketers don’t care who they call,” Catherine said as she watched Candy embrace the baby. Candy held her new bouncing baby boy in her arms while Monty stood over them, happy to have them in his life. Monty looked over at Mona, who winked at him and smiled.

“Y’all enjoy MJ. I’ll be right back. I’m going on the 5th floor to see Rico right quick.” Mona made an exit.

“Hey, tell him he’s an uncle now and I’ll be up soon to see him,” Monty said before Mona could get out the door good.

“I will do just that, bruh. Just enjoy your son and your woman. I’ll be back in a little bit.”

“Trust me, I will,” he responded.

The events that had led up to that moment were still in the back of Monty’s mind as he held his son for the first time. As a great Chess player, he compared his life to the game. If he could play and conquer a game such as that then what would be different if logically interpreting those strategic moves in day to day living. He thought about his pawns and how beneficial they were for him. He’d enjoy all that they had to offer, but had to control mixing business with pleasure. Even though, for him, the two went hand in hand. Bringing Candy in the game was surprisingly interesting, although allowing her to be his queen was what he needed; keeping her was gonna prove to be a little more difficult than expected. Rico was his right hand man and could play any piece he wanted, however, his moves weren’t thought out carefully and Monty almost lost a key player. The only difference in the game and actual life were there were no rules and opponents could take him out at any given time. So, one way or another, while unexpectedly using his pieces, he got rid of Bruce and Monica. Now, he could focus more clearly on continuing to win at all costs. CheckMate, he thought as he embraced and kissed his boy.
