Jace snorted. “Marcus was worried about me?”

She nodded. The smile on her face faded as she stared at him. “They all were.”

Jace watched her for a moment. “And you?”

She frowned. “I thought the man I loved was going to die right in front of me,” she said stiffly. “Of course I was worried.”

  He froze.

  Love?

  “Is that right?” he said.

He’d always imagined he would be much cooler when his Vestal said she loved him. Maybe have roses or a string quartet. This was not at all what he expected.

  Veronica shrugged.

“You nearly died,” she said. “No more wasted time. No more overthinking it or coming up with excuses.”

  “What about your job?”

“I’m going to contact them about extending my research time here. If I tell them I’m willing to use some of my own funds, I think they’ll agree. I’m just a glorified intern anyway.”

  “Your own funds?”

“Well, Rem said I can stay in the hybrid village, and I assume I can stay with you.”

  He smirked. “Oh?”

She rolled her eyes. “Well, I love you, and you love me.”

He raised a brow and gave a little chuckle. He winced in pain.

“Well, I’m glad we cleared that up,” he said with a grin.

Veronica frowned at him. “That’s it? I say I love you, and that’s all you got?”

With more speed than he expected, Jace pulled her mouth to his and pressed in for a hungry kiss. When he pulled away, he could feel the burn at his side, but it was all worth it for the look of shock on her face.

“I love you,” he softly and tucked a strand of blond hair behind her ear. “You are the only one for me, and without you, my life would have no meaning.”

She stared in surprise for a moment.

“How’s that?” he said and winked.

Veronica rolled her eyes. “A little too perfect.”

“A little too true,” he countered.

He waited as a smile spread across her face. Then she was the one to lean in for a kiss.

When she pulled back again, he smiled back at her, the saucy temptress who had stolen his heart. He knew, no matter what came their way, he would always have a place to call home with her.

  Author Bio

Madison currently lives with her husband and two children in the Valley of the Sun in Arizona. After leaving the frozen tundra of the north, she was more surprised than anyone with how much she has enjoyed living in the desert. Seeing as she stated on more than one occasion before moving to Arizona how much she hated heat, it was an odd move, but it seems her hatred for sub-zero temperatures and ice has won out in the end.

When she’s not writing, she’s enjoying time with her family. Madison and her family frequent festivals in the area, as well as local cultural events, and spend time with family in the area. In the summer, she is most likely to be found in the pool with the family and in the winter by the fireplace. Since both her children are autistic, days can be a little chaotic, but with her husband beside her, there’s nothing she can’t handle.
