Finding His Mrs. Right (Mending Hearts Series) Page 4

by Harris, Cyndi

“I can’t.” he slurred. “If I did that, my perfect image would be tarnished.”

“You obviously need someone to talk to.” I pointed out.

“I have someone to talk to. Tyler’s just at home with his perfect family. I didn’t want to burden him tonight.” He answered.

“Then, talk to me.” I pushed.

“I can’t, all my secrets are locked away up here.” He said pointing to his head.

“How many drinks have you had?” I asked, curiously.

“More than I can remember.” He smiled.

Landon was definitely wasted beyond belief. I needed to get him out of here before things got any more out of hand. Maybe he’d open up more if we were alone.

“C’mon, let’s get you out of here.” I replied, helping him up.

“Here,” He said handing me his keys, and I shoved them in my purse.

“We’re going to take my friend’s rental.” I assured, and he shrugged. I was grateful that he didn’t put up a fight.

Ushering Landon out of the bar, I helped him into the passenger’s seat before getting into the driver’s. It was nippy outside, so I started the car, and cranked the heat. He told me his address, and I punched it into the GPS. Boy was I glad to have that thing, because Landon had dozed off on the ride to his home. Arriving, I pulled out his keys and dragged him out of the car. He was lucid enough to grab my arm and help me usher him inside. Once there, I helped him upstairs to his bedroom.

The place was huge, and on a lakefront property! Driving up to the house, you could see it on the hill. It was the only house in the area, and there was a great view of the mountains. Landon Brooks was sure living the life many people wanted. His bedroom looked like he had come from royalty. The room was like 3 bedrooms in one, and it had dim lighting. There were three French doors that led to a balcony, and his curtains were gorgeous. He had a chandelier in the middle of the room, and I wanted to melt.

  Landon had such exquisite taste.

Sitting on his bed, he stared over at me. I felt my cheeks heating up, because even though he was hammered, he was still totally hot. Damn my hormones! Shaking off my thoughts, I sauntered over to him and pulled off his shoes.

“Thanks.” He smiled slightly, as I spotted his built in bathroom.

“Are you going to tell me what happened?” I asked.

“I ruined the date.” He answered.

“How so?” I asked a bit relieved to hear that news.

“I got a really important phone call and I left her at the table. Alone. I did come back—over an hour later and Chloe—Coney…” he stopped as he pondered her name.

“Colby?” I asked, filling in the blank for him.

“Yes! That’s it!” He chuckled. “Anyway, Colby was gone. I was kind of relieved to be honest, because as you can see—my face hurts.”

I chuckled at his drunken rambling, but noticed he was staring at me.

“So, was the call for work?” I asked, trying to pry. He had left me for the same reason earlier, but at least he had been nice enough to drive me back to my hotel room.

  “No.” he sighed.

“An old girlfriend?” I asked, and he smiled.

“I think I should get a shower.” He said, bypassing my question.

Getting up from the bed, he stumbled and fell into my arms. Helping him stand upright, I glared up to him and we made eye contact. God, his eyes were stimulating, but he did need a shower. He reeked of alcohol. I helped him to the bathroom, and turned on the hot water. Leaving him alone, I sat on his bed and waited. I wanted to make sure he was securely in bed before I left.

Looking around his room, I spotted a guitar. There was no way he played it. Getting up, I walked over to see sheet notes on his dresser. No effing way! Not only did he play the guitar, he wrote music too. Was there any other way to make this man any sexier?! With my luck, there had to be. The bathroom door opened abruptly, startling me. Spinning around, I saw Landon hovering in his bathroom’s doorway.

He was like a god, standing there in nothing but his towel. Steam was coming from the bathroom, surrounding him. The time of me wondering how he looked without his suit and tie, was now over. Landon Brooks was chiseled on every inch of his would be perfect body. His shoulders were broad, and his arms looked strong. I wondered what it would be like to be held by him.

“You’re still here.” He said a bit surprised.

“Yeah,” I replied a bit nervous. “I just wanted to make sure you were ok.”

Sauntering over to me, I saw the water droplets still covering his body, from his shower. Staring down at me, he smiled, before brushing my hair behind my ear.

“You’re gorgeous.” He said, complimenting me.

“And you’re drunk.” I said, stepping out of his grasp. Turning my back to him, I picked up his sheet music again. “So, you write music?”

“Yeah, it’s my therapy.” He replied moving up behind me.

Sucking in a hard breath, I turned to him before asking, “Therapy from what?”

He was so close that I could smell the fresh soap scent, of the soap that he’d just washed with. His wet body pressed against me, and got my clothes damp. My heart was screaming for me to run, but my body wanted me to stay. I knew having a hot night with Landon Brooks would be a mistake, but I couldn’t seem to want to run in the other direction.

“My life—it’s not exactly how it seems. I’m a pretty messed up individual.” He admitted.

“You’re not messed up.” I said, trying to lighten his mood.

I could see by the look on his face, that he was being totally serious. As much as I wanted to learn more about Landon, I didn’t want to learn it while he was drunk. I didn’t want him to regret saying intimate details about his life with me.

“I could write a book about how damaged I am. The hardest part of my day, is acting like I’m perfect.” He said seriously, keeping eye contact with me.

“Landon—” I started, but whatever I was going to say had been stopped by his mouth.

Landon had caught me off guard for the second time in two nights. He had taken my mouth as his, and to my surprise his breath was fresh. I was glad he used the toothbrush and mouthwash in his bathroom. Without warning, Landon grabbed my waist and tugged me even closer. Against my will, my arms reached up and my fingers got tangled in his hair.

The kiss was hot and explosive!

I got lost in it. He slipped his tongue into my mouth, and our tongues battled a bit as we walked towards his bed. I ran my hands down to his hard rock chest, and got a good feel. Pushing Landon backwards, he fell flat on his bed, and looked up at me. I pulled my shirt off and tossed it to the floor. Even though this was against better judgment, I wasn’t passing up the chance. It had been forever since I had been laid, and Landon was damn sure into me. Even if it was just the liquor.

Unbuttoning my jeans, I eased them down to reveal my pink lace panties. Landon smiled like a fool in lust, before I crawled on top of him. I felt his erection beneath the towel, and it was surprising. I dipped low, and my dark hair fell into his face before I kissed him. Wrapping his arm around my waist, he flipped me over and laid me down on the cool mattress. I couldn’t believe I was allowing this to happen.

Kissing me, he erased the tiny doubt floating around in my head. It just felt so right, being tangled in his grasp. The towel fell from his waist, and his hard cock sprang free. I sucked in a breath as he kissed me again and I felt his manhood press up against my belly. Unhooking my bra, my breast sprang free and he began caressing them.

“You’re so beautiful.” He whispered in my ear.

An instant later, he was kissing my neck, and trailing his way to my chest. I felt his hands trail up my thighs before brushing against my core. He grabbed my panties, and pulled them off, only to toss them to the floor. I was wet already, and ready to go. I ached, and wanted him inside me, but I wasn’t about to let him take the front seat. I was sure he was used to that with the many women he bedd
ed. Ugh, the thought sickened me so I tossed it the very depths of my mind. Landon stopped, only to grab a condom from his top draw before moving back over to me. I watched him tear the gold package before slipping it on.

Grabbing a hand full of his hair, I pulled him back up to my mouth and kissed him passionately. Slow, but hard. I brushed my tongue against his and he moaned. Turning him back over, I was now on top again.

I kissed his neck and he again let out a moan as I grabbed his cock. His body shuddered beneath mines, and that made me smile inwardly. Pulling back, I saw the torment on his face. Landon wanted me bad, and I was in charge of when he’d get a taste. Kissing his chest, I stroked his cock a bit, and he nibbled his bottom lip.

Lining myself up with him, I slid down on top of his manhood slowly and a moan tore through his chest. It was sexy, and turned me on even more to know I was causing it. He was hard and incredibly large, filling me up the way no other had. Consumed by pleasure, Landon grabbed my hips, and drove the rest of him inside of me. I screamed in pleasure, before digging my nails into his back, and grinding against him.

So much for me trying to adjust to his size.

“Fuck…” Landon muttered, reaching up and fondling my breast. I threw my head back in ecstasy as he thrusted his hips upward.

“Tessa…” he moaned, grabbing my ass, and using it to slide inside me ever so gently. I was amazed that we were actually having an intimate moment. It wasn’t just empty touching and feeling.

Landon sat up, and I immediately pulled him into my clutches. Kissing him, he winced as I brushed the cut on his lip. He wrapped his arms around me, and kissed me. I could feel all of him in this position. I gently stroked the wound on his lips as I glared into his eyes. He ran his hand through my hair, and laid me down again, this time he was on top.

Without warning, he drove himself inside of me, hard and deep. I gasped as I shut my eyes, and gripped a hand full of his hair, before scratching his back. I’m sure it left a mark. He growled seductively, and I was more than sure that I had reduced him, Landon Brooks, down the point of desperate need. I could see it in his eyes, and I loved it. Driving deeper inside me, he made my legs quiver. I was also in desperate need of his kisses. I was so close to climaxing that I wanted to scream. He was close to finishing too, I could tell. He had picked up his pace, and was kissing the crook of my neck like crazy.

“Come for me, Tess.” He begged, and on command I do. I explode around him, and my legs clench him tight. I never wanted to let him out of my grip. I found myself screaming his name, and an instant later he’s climaxing with me. Letting out a roar, Landon holds my hips tight before collapsing on top of me.

Our breaths are labored together, and my head is light. The room had fallen away for a moment, but it was beginning to reshape now. Surprising me, Landon planted a soft kiss on my lips before glaring into my eyes.

“You’re perfect.” He muttered, and I had no rebuttal.

Kissing my cheek, he rolled on his side, and began to cuddle with me. My eyes began to feel overly heavily as sleep set in.

  Seven

Opening my eyes, I saw the sunlight shining in my eyes. Groaning, I tried sitting up, only to feel my head pound. I immediately lay flat again, before searching my bed. The sheets were ruffled, but I was alone. I was wasted last night, but I was sure I went home with, Tessa. There was no way that that was an overly exerted wet dream. Looking over to my nightstand, I saw a glass of water and a note. Reaching over, I grabbed the note and saw two Tylenol on the night stand. A smile teased my lips as I read what was on the piece of paper.

Take the two Tylenol, and water before you do anything. It should help the headache. As for the rest of the hangover, sip a Bloody Mary. Don’t forget we left your car at the restaurant.

  Tessa♥

Putting the paper down, I did as I was told. I took the Tylenol, and downed the water before looking at my watch. My heart quickened because I had overslept. I had a meeting to be at in less than ten minutes. Hopping up, the room spent for a second, but I had no time to react. I needed to be ready, and out the door. Running into my bathroom, I took a quick shower, and got ready before calling Tyler for a ride.

“Dude, we’re an hour late.” Tyler scolded, as we entered the lobby of the largest Publishing Company in town.

Mr. Kavon Wright had a thing about punctuality, and here I was, late. I wanted to kick myself in the ass. If this thing went sour because I had picked the wrong day to get a hangover, I was going to flip. Yesterday had been a bad day, but it was topped off rather well. In fact, all I could think about was Tessa. I had never had a woman slip out and leave me alone the next morning. I always had to call them a cab that same night just to ensure they hadn’t spent the night with me.

To be honest, Tessa had been the first girl to ever enter my house, aside from my mother and sister. I usually used a hotel room. Something suddenly dawned at me, and I got the urge to call Tessa immediately. I hope I hadn’t scared her off.

“Earth to Landon,” Tyler snapped, and I finally jumped back into reality.

  “Sorry,” I responded.

“What the hell happened last night? Why didn’t you call me?” Tyler asked, concerned.

“Nothing I couldn’t handle. Besides, I don’t want to talk about it right now. I’m trying to get my head in the game.” I replied, but I knew the conversation wasn’t done. Not by a long shot.

I knew I looked like hammered shit, but I had to go through with this, one way or another. Sauntering down the conference room, I fixed my suit before going in. Mr. Wright had stood, and greeted me. By the look on his face, I could see he had been concerned about my bruises.

“Accident during a game of touch football.” I lied. I was pretty good at covering things up with lies, when it mattered.

“My favorite sport.” He smiled, brightly.

“Really? We need to set up a game sometime soon.” I responded, sitting on my side of the table with the rest of my team. Kavon had done the same as the meeting began.

Brandon, Kavon’s advertising, and financial advisor stood up, and began presenting their proposal. I was finding it hard to concentrate because glimpses of my night had been flashing through my mind. I just had to know what Tessa was up to. Slyly pulling my phone from my pocket, I texted her from underneath the table.

“I can’t believe you spent the night with him.” Gwen said, as I pulled my hair up into a ponytail.

“I didn’t mean to.” I insisted looking at her through the mirror, as my phone chimed. Gwen picked it up, and squealed.

“You have to tell me what happened.” She pushed. She had been asking me for the past two hours, but I refused to answer her directly. What happened between me and Landon was just a spur of the moment ordeal, and wouldn’t happen again. I was kind of hoping he wouldn’t remember.

  “It was nothing.” I sighed.

“Well, he sure must’ve liked “nothing”, because he just texted you.” She smiled brightly.

“What?” I asked turning to her, and grabbing my cell phone.

  Landon: 8:36 AM

Hey beautiful, what are you up to?

Landon Brooks, CEO of Brooks Enterprises

He really had texted me. What the hell? I wasn’t prepared for this. It had just been a one night stand, and it would be left at nothing but that. I texted him back as nonchalantly as I could.

  Tessa: 8:37 AM

I’m in my hotel room, getting dressed.

Shoot! I hit send before I realized that could’ve come off as a flirt. I wanted to kick myself even more, now.

  Landon: 8:37 AM

I’m sure whatever you choose, will look great on you.

Landon Brooks, CEO of Brooks Enterprises

I smiled, as I sat on my hotel bed, and Gwen noticed. I immediately wiped the smile clear from my face, but it was too late. Her interest was at an all-time high.

“What’d he say?” she asked, prying.

  “Nothing,” I lied.

&nbs
p; “Oh, come on. I’m your best friend. You can’t leave me in the dark.” She pouted.

“Gwen, please.” I replied, texting Landon back.

  Tessa: 8:38 AM

Thanks, how are you feeling this morning?

  Landon: 8:38 AM

Rough around the edges, but thanks for askin’, and thanks for the Tylenol

Landon Brooks, CEO of Brooks Enterprises

  Tessa: 8:39 AM

  No problem

  Landon: 8:40 AM

  Can I see you later?

Landon Brooks, CEO of Brooks Enterprises

Uh oh, I knew this would probably follow. Maybe I was getting my panties in a bunch for nothing. Maybe Landon just wanted to get back to finding his, “Mrs. Right” for all I knew. Either way, we weren’t going back to what happened last night. Not if I could help it.

  Tessa:

Sure, we can get talk about your date, and find you a new one.

Frowning, I tried to decipher Tessa’s last message. Was she joking or what?! Last night had not been a dream, I was sure of it. I had a feeling Tessa was trying to brush me off, which meant one thing. I had scared her off. I couldn’t remember if I had said anything too incriminating or not, but I must’ve. Or maybe… My heart was racing as I tried to piece together the rest of the night’s events, but everything was so damn foggy. The only thing that stood out was Tessa. Damn it, why hadn’t I just called Tyler? I was being an idiot, that’s why. One thing was definite; Tessa and I were definitely going to have to talk now.

My cell phone buzzed, and grabbed my attention. It had to be Tessa, and I was glad for it. I wasn’t a text-er so, it couldn’t have been anyone else. Maybe she had only been joking. Checking my phone I saw:

  Tyler:

Who the eff are you texting right now?! Pay attention, this is a big deal!

On cue, Tyler nudged me, hard. I winched in pain as I looked up to him. The look in his eyes was of pure rage and scolding. He was right. This wasn’t me, and I wasn’t into blowing this deal. Tessa would have to wait, as much as the thought killed me. Slipping my phone back into my pocket, I looked up and finished listening to Brandon ramble on.
