“You know he will. But is that what you really want? Because if it’s not, I could ask for a transfer—”
She stopped him with a hand against his lips. “I appreciate your offer, but those e-mails—along with everything else that’s happened in the past twenty-four hours—have given me a whole new perspective.”
“I’m glad.”
She wrapped her arms around his waist. “How long before your shoulder heals?”
He nuzzled her earlobe. “Doctor said that depends on how much I restrict my activity.”
“What does that mean exactly?”
“I have no idea.” He shifted her suddenly so that she sprawled on top of him. “But I do know how resourceful you can be in times of need.”
“I need you,” she whispered.
He brushed several strands of hair back from her face. “The feeling’s mutual, sweetheart.”
She slid her hands over the part of his chest not covered by his sling. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I’m willing to risk it if you are.”
She caressed his sculpted cheeks and looked deep into his eyes. “Loving you is no risk at all.”
“I was just thinking the same thing,” he said sincerely.
“Then it’s official. We belong together—”
“—in every way possible.” Easing down the neckline of her shirt, he kissed the sensitive skin he’d uncovered. Then he used his teeth and tongue and hands to explore the rest of her—in every way possible.
As much as his touch excited her, she was even more thrilled by the love she saw in his eyes. They’d both almost died today and joining their bodies together now felt natural and right. It was more than making love.
It was a celebration of life.
