Whispers

“I thought it, but I didn’t say it.” She snuggled back into his chest, thank God. You big oaf.
Stop with the oaf thing, or I’ll start calling you babe.
“I heard that.”
“Heard what?” He wrapped his arms tight around her body, feeling her warmth tingle his skin.
“We’re connected. Soulmates.”
“Are you trying to scare me off?”
She reached up and stroked his cheek. “No. But you can’t deny this anymore. I knew you were in the garage, and I heard you tell me to hit that man.”
“And you’re trying to tell me I heard you say you love me, but you didn’t actually say it, only thought it.”
Yep.
That’s creepy.
I know. He kissed her temple.
“Are you okay?”
He took a deep breath and decided to go with his thoughts, except he’d speak them, not think them. “You know, I think I like Halloween now.”
“Why didn’t you like it in the first place?” She cupped his cheeks, staring at him with love and admiration in her eyes and maybe a little concern as well.
“Because it was the day you left me.”
Her eyes widened, and her mouth opened, but not a single noise escaped. She blinked a few times. “I didn’t leave you. I didn’t have a choice.”
“I know, but I haven’t been the same since you went to California. I didn’t know how to deal with what I thought was a stupid childhood crush when you came back.”
“Me neither. I guess that’s why I resorted to trickery.” The corners of her mouth dipped down. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I didn’t make it easy for you.”
“No, you didn’t.” She ran her hands up and down his chest. “So, where do we go from here? I mean, as you said, we aren’t taking this too slow since we’ve kind of declared our love for one another.”
“My sister is moving back in a month, so I’ve got to find a new place.” He rolled to his side and propped himself up on elbow. He could stare at her forever.
“You could move in here?” She bit down on her lower lip.
“You mean live in sin?” Rarely did she show her vulnerable side, and he should be shot for playing on it, but he couldn’t resist.
“Well, I mean… Yes,” she finally managed. “You’ve got a problem with that?”
“I might.”
“Huh? Why?”
“I’m supposed to be the keeper of law and order.” He chuckled.
“No law says a man can’t live with a woman if they are both consenting adults, and believe me, I’m consenting.”
“This is true,” he said. “But what if I want more?”
“What kind of more?”
The forever kind of more.
She gasped, covering her mouth. “Don’t mess with me.”
“I’m not. I love you, Courtney. I always have. There isn’t anyone else for me.”
“I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but yes.”
“Yes to what? I haven’t asked you anything.” He winked.
That got him a slap on his good shoulder.
“Ouch. That hurt.”
“Either ask or accept my answer.” She pursed her lips.
“Marry me? Please.”
“I’ll have to think about.” She circled her arms around his body, resting her head on his chest. “I’ve thought about it. Yes.”
This house now belongs to the two of you. Fill it with love and laughter. Welcome home, my children. My job here is done.

About the Author
Welcome to my World! I'm a USA Today Bestseller of Romantic Suspense, Contemporary Romance, and Paranormal Romance.
I first started writing while carting my kids to one hockey rink after the other, averaging 170 games per year between 3 kids in 2 countries and 5 states. My first book, IN TWO WEEKS was originally published in 2007. In 2010 I helped form a publishing company (Cool Gus Publishing) with NY Times Bestselling Author Bob Mayer where I ran the technical side of the business through 2016.
I'm currently enjoying the next phase of my life...the empty NESTER! My husband and I spend our winters in Jupiter, Florida and our summers in Rochester, NY. We have three amazing children who have all gone off to carve out their places in the world, while I continue to craft stories that I hope will make you readers feel good and put a smile on your face.
