“What she want?”
“He’s missing.”
“Oh.”
I turned around and faced him, and he took his eyes off the 60 inch TV screen he had mounted in the wall.
“Just ‘oh’?”
“Yeah, what else you want me to say?”
“I’m just wondering…”
“Don’t wonder anything. It’s not for you to worry about unless…”
Now it was my time to cut him off. There was no need to insinuate a thing when it came to Joshua and me because that was dead.
“Unless, Nothing. I’m just worried about you. I don’t want you getting caught up in anything.”
“Trust me I’m good. If it makes you feel any better, I don’t have shit to do with him being missing.”
“If that means you won’t be getting in trouble or become a target I’m good.”
“In trouble? Remember I don’t have any parents. The only person that can pretty much yell at me is your ass,” he joked.
I nudged him, and a reassuring smile crept onto my face. “At least you know.”
Asahd kissed me and then positioned me to his chest again to finish watching the movie. He wasn’t a man of many words, but his actions spoke volumes. If I could, I would be in his arms all day and night.
“Do you want to go see your parents tomorrow? They can get visits now.”
“If you come with me, yeah. I want to clear the air once and for all. I’ve been letting things blow over.”
“I was going with you regardless shawty. We a team. They can not like me all they want, I’m in love with their daughter, and nothing in this world can change that.”
I got quiet at butterflies danced in my stomach. Asahd was truly amazing. He was hard to handle, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t deal with.
“I don’t know what my father’s deal is. I feel bad about the time he was trying to attack you. I was praying you ain’t knock him out.”
“I ain’t worried about that old man. Just know your peoples are straight. They’ll be clean, and they got back the shop. No one ain’t allowed to sell to them but if I gotta make sure their ass stay in Philly to be sober I will.”
“As mean as it sounds that’s very nice of you.”
“Can we finish watching the movie now?” he asked, and I rolled my eyes to the top of my head. I relaxed in his arms and focused on the TV screen. I don’t know about him, but pretty soon the TV was going to be watching me.
ASAHD
“Why are you looking nervous?”
“Because I’m not sure how my parents will react. You sure they’re ok with this whole set up?”
I nodded my head as I released a chuckle. “Yeah, but even if they weren’t, it wasn’t going to stop me for making sure their ass was in there.”
“A damn shame. I believe it’s a crime to force someone into something they don’t want to do.”
“Maybe, but if it is, who gives a fuck? I’ma still do what I want?”
“That I know,” she replied.
After another fifteen minutes, we pulled up to the rehab center and parked in the visiting parking. I got out and went to her side to let her out.
Unbeknownst to her, I’ve been getting updates on her parents, and if they weren’t doing good, we wouldn’t be up here. They either really wanted to change or wanted their shit back because they’ve been participating in every program they offered to be clean and spoke to a counselor.
The rehab center looked more like a huge mansion than a facility. I wanted them to be comfortable and not feeling like they were being locked away. Around the building was acres of land with tree, plants, and flowers.
After signing in, we went to the family room where they were already waiting. Her mother got up from the table and nearly ran into Camille’s arms. I approached her father who stood and shook my hand firmly.
It was a good start after all.
“How y’all doing?” I asked him pulling out Camille’s chair and hugging her mom.
“We’re pretty good,” he responded. “How’s school going?”
We all sat around and talked to each other before we went and got food from the cafeteria. Everything went well, and there weren’t any ill vibes, until her dad asked to speak to me alone and Camille looked as if she wanted to intervene but I gave her a look letting her know I was cool and I walked to the patio with her pops.
“I wanted to start off by apologizing for my behavior towards you. I didn’t get to know you as a person, and that isn’t fair. You just have to understand that I want the best for her.”
“I do as well. That girl has my heart, and I wouldn’t intentionally bring harm her way.”
Her dad blew out a deep breath and nodded his head.
“It wasn’t easy hiding an addiction for over twenty years. We were convincing each other that it was recreational but it spiraled out of control, and now we’re here.”
“Well, this is the first step. Just get cleaned up, and everything you once had will be yours again.”
“How can I repay you?” he asked.
“Stay out of our relationship,” I told him seriously, and he laughed as if I was joking. “I’m serious old head.”
“I got you. As long as you keep her happy, I’m happy.”

Pulling up to the trap house, I put my car in park and got out. Camille followed suit and rounded the car gazing into my eyes forcing me to see the worry-filled in hers.
Shit like this didn’t happen often, but it wasn’t anything new, and for the most part, there was only one outcome, to find out who was responsible, set up shop somewhere else and find all new workers.
I pulled her into my chest and circled my arms around her hoping a little affection could soothe her panic.
“Take the car and go home,” I instructed her after I pressed my lips against her forehead.
Camille tilted her head upward and didn’t say anything for a minute.
“What’s going on, Asahd? And don’t tell me it’s not my place because when it comes to you, it’s very much my business. I didn’t ask to be with the Asahd only when it comes to the four walls of our home.”
I reared my head back a little from her statement. Was Camille trying to boss up on me?
“I appreciate it love, but a Queen doesn’t go out fighting battles alongside her King. Some shit happened and it all will be fixed by the time I get home.”
“So you’re really not gonna tell me what the problem is? I don’t think it’s fair that I sit in the house worried about whether or not you will return.”
“Is that what this is about? I will always return home, lil baby,” I joked kissing her lips just so she could relax. The shit wasn’t a guarantee, but if it eased her mind, I was going to tell her that. I ain’t need her driving herself crazy. That shit would be on my mind, and the way shit was going I need to keep focused.
Camille reluctantly said, ok, and got in the driver’s seat. I didn’t move until I saw she was gone and then I turned towards the trap house.
In a matter of seconds, the Asahd Camille knew vanished. My heart turned cold before it started to beat rapidly in my chest. I didn’t know the outcome of the stick-up, but I knew it wasn’t good. This was one of our busiest spots. Thousands of dollars were made in a few hours. I tried to forget about the how much work could’ve been lost too.
Making my way to the house, I let myself in, and Zayne was already there. The three niggas that were left in charge looked scared shitless. Well, two of them did. One little muhfucka looked unbothered, and that set off my mental alarm.
I accessed the house quickly and picked up on how everything was too clean. If it were a real robbery, I would’ve expected them to shake some shit up. Maybe even torturing but I saw the niggas we trusted wasn’t even built the way we expect. They probably got guns pointed their way and started giving up tapes.
“What’s the damage?”
“50k and two Keys.”
I bared m
y teeth down. The 50k was change, but the two keys of Coke was the big hit.
“So how was someone able to come up in here and take some shit that was locked away?” I asked, and the two scared niggas started running down the story.
They were speaking at the same time and trying to talk over each other, it just sounded like a bunch of yelling. “Shut the fuck,” I barked at them because they were giving me a headache. “What happened?” I asked Qill who now had his faces screwed up my way.
“You heard them,” he spat crossing his arms over his chest.
“Yeah, but he asked you,” Zayne spoke up.
I held my hand up at and walked towards Qill punched him dead in his face. He was too fucking tough for his own good. From his actions alone I could tell he had something to do with it.
He jumped up, and Zayne took his gun out and pointed it at him.
“Sit the fuck down. Y’all two get out of here.
The other guys rushed out of the house, and I made a mental note to figure out what I was going to do with them. They may have no have anything to do with the robbery, but they knew too much, and that could get us jammed along the way.
“So what were you saying?” I asked ready to beat his ass until he struggled to take his last breath. “You was this tough when them muhfuckas had a barrel to ya dome?”
He turned his head towards me and show me a menacing stare. I give him that. This nigga had heart. Too bad all that heart was gonna land him on a slab in the city morgue.
“Fuck you!” he spat spitting blood at my feet, and I moved as Zayne delivered a blow to his head. I heard a loud crack, and he let out a blood-curdling howl and cradled his bloody head.
“Say that shit again,” I taunted him. I needed answers but I knew how he was built and he wasn’t going to give up shit.
“So who you set this shit up with? I know you wasn’t smart enough to do this alone.”
Only then did he lift his head up and tried to grill me, but with the blood pouring into eyes stopped him.
“I know you gonna kill me, and I ain’t tell ya ass shit!” he barked.
“Cool. So I’m sure you don’t care about ya entire family getting buried next to you.”
He laughed and held his hands out. “At least they’ll be with me.”
All I could do was shake my head because he was one tough dumb ass nigga. He was going to be buried underground, was completely fine with his family getting hurt, and whoever had our cash and work were getting away with it he more than likely did all the dirty work.
He looked Zayne straight in his face as he pulled the trigger and the bullet pierced his bloody head. It stopped the laughing, and I was glad because he was starting to creep me the fuck out.
I ran my hands down my face and shaking my head.
“We gotta tighten up, it's one thing after the other,” I stated pacing the floor.
Zayne nodded his head and pulled out his phone to get the cleanup crew to gut out the house. There wasn’t shit to move to the new trap because I was sure everything that was in here was gone. An enemy was right up under our nose? But who was it?
BURGE
“It’s like stealing candy from a baby,” I cackled licking my fingers and thumbing through the stack of old bills. My adrenaline was running high like that first drop on a roller coaster. Old, battered or crispy and new, all money spent the same. But fuck the money! The coke I lucked up on was going to flood the streets something crazy. It was a shame I couldn’t put this shit out till I got rid of my roadblocks which were them Moseley’s and Easy’s dike ass. I wasn’t sweating that shit because their time was coming.
This shit was easier than what I expected. It wasn’t nothing like a bunch of weak niggas that would do anything for money. Shit, money damn sure was the root of all evil.
My phone rung breaking me from my count. I picked it up when I saw it was my homie Trill.
“That nigga dead.”
Suddenly my racing heart dropped into the pit of my stomach. I flipped my wrist and glanced at the time on my watch. It’s only been a few hours.
Damn, them niggas move quick.
“Did you hear anything else?” I asked after clearing my throat.
“Naw. Not right now at least.”
I sucked my teeth mad as fuck this dickhead was adding onto my anxiety. The galore of the cash and drugs blinded me of the repercussions that were bound to happen. It was definitely the truth but damn sure not anything I wanted to hear.
I hung up on him and stared at the money. I lifted my head once I heard my bedroom door opened up and locked eyes with Nina who looked from me to the money and drugs strewn all over my bed.
I forgot I gave the bitch a key. Along with drugs and money, pussy was a muhfucka. She was staring at my come up, and I was eyeing the fat print between her legs. Nina and some leggings were a dead combination. I forgot that quick that she pissed me off by barging in my room.
“What is that?” she asked pulling my from my daze.
“None of our business,” I spat getting up from the chair I sat in. I circled the bed and backed her up out of the door and shut it behind me.
“What you doing here?”
She placed her hands on her hip and tilted her head.
“You forgot you asked me to come here? I can go though.”
She turned to walk away, but I took her hand in mine.
“Damn, I did,” I responded not really remembering but my dick was brick, and she was here. There was no way I was going to allow her to leave. “I got some shit to wrap up so go grab us some food and will be all yours.”
I went into my pocket and pulled out my roll of money and handed her a hundred dollar bill. She snatched it from me and walked away switching just because she knew I was staring at her fat ass. Once I heard the door open and close, I sighed and dragged my hands down my face.
I went back to the room and started to pack away the money and drugs. If they found out about Qill, I’m sure there will be no time before they found out who was apart of the stick-up.
“What you doing?”
I was halfway done putting up the cash before my brother Ben, interrupted me. His wires were gone, but his speech was still muffled. The nigga was hard headed as fuck. He had to go to physical therapy to restore strength in his mouth, but all he cared about was getting money and eating real food he could barely chew.
“Qill got bodied.”
“So.”
“So?” I shot back almost forgetting the lil muhfucka that was my brother rarely used his brain. “That means we might be a possible target. Who you think killed him.”
“Damnnnnnnnn,” he mumbled still not getting the picture. “What you gonna do?”
“Me? You mean WE! Nigga, I ain’t do this shit alone. When Asahd was ready to kill your ass who had ya back? Don’t bitch up on me now.”
“I’m not. Get out ya feelings. I’m just asking what’s next.”
I threw a stack of cash his way knowing he was only here for that. “I say we fall back. We can’t dip off because it will make us look suspicious but we also can’t go out spending cash, and shit like it grow on trees because that will definitely raise red flags. I know how you are. Don’t go out doing dumb shit.”
Instead of responding Ben just flagged me because he knew I was right. I was always pulling him out of shit. The only difference this time was all this was my own plan I executed with his help along with a few others that wanted a come up.
Just as I expected, Ben left as fast as he came and Nina came back with pizza and drinks. I stored everything away in the closet, and we sat in the living room and ate and watched a few movies on Netflix.
I had too much on my mind to even try to attempt to watch the screen. My next move had to be my best or else I was going to end up like Qill.
“You ever wanted to leave Philly?”
She shook her head and continued to look at the screen. I expected her to ask a follow-up question, but there was none. It irritated me,
but I continued because I needed to see where her head was at.
“Why you ain’t never want to leave Philly?”
“Because, I’m comfortable here,” she shrugged.
“That’s it? You can be comfortable anywhere in the world for real for real. You got money, and I got money. I’ve been thinking about some things.” I moved over closer to her where she sat on the opposite end of the couch. I needed a chick with me in my corner, and there was no one better than Nina. I couldn’t dig the fact that she was dealing with a nigga I ain’t like, but I was willing to let that be in the past. I wanted Nina to be my present and future.
“I was thinking maybe we go grab us a crib and start something serious. Atlanta sounds like a good fresh start.”
Now I had her undivided attention, and she looked at me with a raised eyebrow. “Something serious? What does that mean?”
“A relationship and kids.”
“So you want to add me onto your extensive list of baby mamas?”
“Nah, I want you to be my wife and shit and give me some kids. I know I’ve been on some shit for the past years, but I’m only getting older. I love you. I always did, I was just too dumb to show it and admit it to even myself. Allow me to be that man, I swear I will do right by you.”
“It sounds good,” she responded staring at me blankly.
I swiped my face and blew out a deep breath.
“You wouldn’t be Nina if you ain’t make this shit difficult,” I sighed. “I’m pouring out my heart, telling you it was hard as fuck for me to do this and you’re shutting me down.”
“I’m not,” she said taking her hand out of mine. “I’m just saying, people, don’t normally change overnight. You are used to ripping and running the streets and flying through women just as fast. I don’t want to be a part of that. I accept you for who you are. I’m actually good with the understanding we have, we see each other when we see each other. I don’t want to complicate things.”
“True but I’m telling you I want to change and you will never know until you give me a shot.”
Nina shook her head and ran her fingers through her hair. “Burge, we practically grew up together. I’ve seen you be the same person your entire life. It will take a miracle for you to change.”
