Sweeping abruptly his direction, the swerve shook Mindie’s thoughtfulness. “Yes, okay, I’m sorry, work is gone now. Poof…” Mindie snapped her fingers, eliciting a smile at the end. The contract refused to disappear from the forefront of her mind, however, and she hoped they wouldn’t discuss work anymore. How would she tell George they had decided to accept another offer?

“I know you’re in an important phase of your planning. I only ask for a few hours tonight. You can get back to work tomorrow.” Reaching for her hand, George brought it to his lips in one dreamlike slow motion, kissing without losing sight of the road. “Believe me, the winery, paperwork, and writing checks are the furthest thing from my mind with you sitting beside me.”

Melting into the seat, Mindie’s spine curved into the smooth, buttery leather. She could enjoy the end to an otherwise surprisingly strangely opportunistic day. Taking in another determined sniff, she fought against the scents of food for his soothing, delicious male smell. Looping in through her nostrils, his natural skin oils swirled into his cologne and some manly scented soap, settling her nerves while enticing her passion. Mindie could never resist a delectable man. “You’ve already taken me away from reality.”

  “I aim to please.”

In all their moments together, they’d explored many places in and around Braden. The familiar roads curved beyond the routine routes Mindie had driven in her years of living locally. Fences and densely wooded tree lines shielded private property from the wandering eyes of travelers. She’d been to many of the residences of the longtime locals. The others belonged to transplanted strangers, taking up residence in their adopted Iowa home sites. Curiosity welled within her consciousness and she peered closer into the foliage, fantasies of large manicured grounds dotted with expensive landscaped planters rolled across her imagination. The car slowed, George snapped the blinker, revealing his intention to pull into one of these mystery compounds. “Why are we intruding into this neighborhood?” Mindie couldn’t resist the question, popping forth like an ill-timed bodily function.

“I wanted to show you my new digs.”

  “New digs?”

  “It’s a surprise, I thought you’d be happy.”

“You bought a home here, out in the middle of these transplants?”

“I’m not really a transplant, am I? I can go through any initiation you propose. The only true new part of this deal would be the housing development.”

His smooth hands caressed the steering wheel, fingertips ever so slightly tapping the top of the leather cover. He’d rolled her nipples around the exact same way not so long ago…how her mind wandered and her vagina ached at the same time. Would this be the day? Confusion riddled her brain, influx of images and physical memories cloaked her senses. “Help what?”

“We haven’t even opened the bottle yet, are you okay?”

Gravel crunched underneath the tires, reminding her of…eating cereal? What the fuck? This was no time for Grape Nuts. They were parking, the car slowed to a stop, settling atop the freshly spread ground stones. What the hell would she say next? “So, we are here? We are a spot on a map with the big red arrow, we are here.” Nodding crazily, Mindie lost control of cognitive reasoning.

“You really did have a hard day, hon, how can I help?”

“Help me? I’m not sure you can. I’m a tough case.”

“I’m willing to accept the challenge. You’re worth any effort, which by the way, I think you’re exaggerating the necessary efforts.”

Forcing calm, Mindie closed her eyes and focused on the situation. They were going to a picnic, on property George apparently purchased. Did he buy this place because he was counting on being her partner? If so, he would be sorely disappointed, and out some cash. Not even fancy landscapes would change her mind. It was still too damn early to mix business and relationship. The relationship was more important than his money, how could he disagree? She made perfect sense to herself, isn’t that what mattered? “Okay, I’m better, my reset button must’ve worked.”

“That’s what I like to hear, time to proceed with our evening, we’re burning daylight.” Slipping out the driver’s door, he appeared to open her side faster than she had time to speak. “If you would, my lady.” Sweeping a bow, he grandly encouraged her exit from the car. “We’re headed up toward the trailer.”

Finally looking around, Mindie finally noticed no home, although the plants, shrubbery, and trees certainly gave the impression of an established residence. “Something’s missing.”

“Hence, the big silver home on wheels.” Pointing to the large living capsule parked atop a small hill, George smiled broadly. “I’ve always wanted one of these.”

“Tenement on wheels, totally cool. I dig it.” At least his home was portable, handy after he decided to pull up stakes when she dropped the bomb.

“Of course, it’s temporary living. I plan to build a home somewhere in the middle of this spot.”

“Are you sure you want to stay? This place isn’t glamourous like New York or LA.” She wasn’t going to change her mind. She and Nixie already made up their minds.

“I don’t want those places- I like it here. This feels like home.”

Why was he making this so damn hard? “Of course, I love it here. I was born and raised here.”

“My long lost family roots are here.” How much time had he really spent in Iowa? Could he truly make that claim?

“Some roots are from weeds.” Now, why the hell did she say that? She was arguing on purpose, something she rarely engaged in. The asshole in her came out during debates.

“I’m not a weed, I don’t think. I don’t even like weed.” Scratching his head adorably, he evaded anger gently and easily. Smiling, he reached for her hand. “Relax…I brought you here for some peace. Enjoy the quiet, can you do that?” Locating a level spot on the ground, George snapped the blanket up high in the air. It drifted lazily into an almost perfect square. Opening the basket, he pulled a bottle and two wine glasses from the wicker basket.

“Relax?” Croaking out the syllables, the familiar word and feeling suddenly became an unidentifiable foreign language. The hand of doubt squeezed against her vocal cords, making speech impossible. Coughing, Mindie clutched her stiff throat.

Finally, George’s brow furrowed. “I’m really trying here, but, something’s completely wrong. Maybe we need to do this another night.” The ever patient man reached the threshold of dealing with Mindie. The impossibly high bar became eye level with his tolerance, souring the mood. He reversed his action of pulling things from the basket, stuffing napkins, food containers, and even the wine back into their snug carrier. “We can go.”

Shame rained over Mindie, tears fell suddenly, revealing her true emotion. Her shoulders drooping, they heaved with her heavy sobs. How could she screw up something so simply tender? Dropping to the blanket, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, her hair covered her face, camouflaging the moment. Stubbornly lodged behind her happiness, doubt picked apart her resolve.

“What is wrong? Would you just say it, dammit? Is it me, you’re sick of me? I let you push me back so many times, I’m not sure how to move forward anymore. I’ve got no more left, do you understand?”

“I’m sorry, so sorry. I wanted to have a nice evening, I’m ruining it.”

“Yeah, you are.” Kicking against air, his foot connected with nothing, yet it felt like his toes dug into her guts. Deservedly sullen, George turned his back, mumbling something indecipherable.

Nothing could be worse, nothing could make their date any poorer. “We’re taking another backer for the winery project.” There, the words tumbled out, verbal toothpaste shooting from the tube. She couldn’t return the statement.

His back remained to Mindie. Not turning around, he ran a hand through his thick hair, making Mindie’s fingers itch for the opportunity to do the same. “Is that the entire scope of the problem with you tonight?”

“Yes, I didn’t know how to tell you. I k
now it probably changes how you feel, but, I needed to be honest.” Teardrops continued to fall, albeit silently. Mindie kept wiping them away, but, they refused to stop, washing her reddened cheeks.

Turning, George made his way to Mindie, gently he smoothed away another round of tears. “I’m okay with that.”

  What?

What the hell did he just say?

  No freaking way!

“You’re, you’re okay with me turning down your offer?”

Hugging her tightly, George kissed the top of her head, rejuvenating Mindie from head to toe. “I don’t want business to interfere with our pleasure.”

“I don’t understand, I thought business was the reason you’re here.”

“I realized my involvement created a dilemma for you. I guess we could’ve been business partners if my heart didn’t complicate matters. It sounds like your heart is the same way, at least I hope.”

  “What about your work?”

“I can do my job from anywhere in the world.”

Anywhere in the world he says, then, why the hell would he choose to stay here when he could be on a beach in the Bahamas? “Iowa might get old.”

“This is a beautiful place, made even more like home from the folks who live here. I’ve got my sights set on long-term.”

The heartbeat that had been pounding within her ears stilled to quiet contentment. Tingling jolts readied her lips for the kiss she needed so badly. Wrapped within his arms, her head rested against his chest, his fingers stroked her hair. Squeezing her arms slightly pressed her head even closer against his body, she couldn’t get close enough. “Long-term like Camp George here?”

  “Camp George, huh?”

“Doesn’t it have a nice ring to it? I mean, until you have a permanent residence built here, you have a fancy camping spot.”

“Camp George it is, sounds official, like making vacation an important part of life.”

“Absolutely important, I think we should make a toast. Would you get that bottle back out of the basket?”

“Indeed I will.” George leaned in closely and brushed his lips against her ear, his tongue flicking the lobe teasingly. “The lady gets what she wants.”

Dear, sweet Jesus, did she want a glass of him instead of the wine? “I want to finish what we started the other day.” Boldly, Mindie’s heated body took over her vocabulary, voicing passions she was normally too embarrassed to admit.

“I want that too.” Deftly, George poured the wine in two glasses.

She didn’t even notice he’d opened it. She was too busy imagining him naked. Quickly toasting her, George took a hearty drink, obviously ready to get down to other business. His eyes asked her the question, and her arching back answered. He slid his hands down toward the hem of her shirt and slid it slowly up her body. Mindie responded eagerly, with no hesitation. She sat up taller easing his job of pulling it over her shoulders. She leaned forward, exposing her breasts, filling the cups of her bra fully. George leaned in, kissing the soft skin mounding the top of her bra while the shirt still covered her face. Mindie moaned through the fabric, her heated breath softening the cotton.

George’s hands grasped Mindie behind her back. With one hand he steadied her as he unhooked the bra strap, the other clasped tightly around her waist. Mindie’s loins burned crazily as he expertly guided his tongue and teeth around both breasts, taking his time with each nipple. She frantically pulled the shirt all the way off her head, throwing it onto the floor. Pressing her thighs together in an effort to fill the growing hot void between her thighs, Mindie began to lean against his head, still loving on her breasts. George’s hands guided them down to the blanket on the ground. They could do much more on the horizontal. He moved his face to her tummy and ran his tongue around her navel. Mindie continued to wiggle. She loved the intensity, yet at the same time, the magnitude of her physical reaction was almost unbearable.

George’s rock-hard manhood throbbed. He’d masturbated many times to his vision of her and their most intimate activities. It was even better with the real woman under his fingertips. He had enough control that she would be fully satisfied, he guaranteed himself that. Years of self-discipline taught him to hold onto his release, but, Mindie tested every technique he previously mastered. Wriggling her jeans from her hips, he only left her lips for a moment. George finally slid his hand toward her pulsing mound underneath her panties. It pleased him to find her fully saturated, waiting for him to fill her. She moaned, urging him to continue his hands’ course toward her heated center.

George stopped and slowly slid her panties down her thighs, kissing along each leg. He moved so slowly, finally touching her feminine folds of soft skin. George pulled the panties from her feet and threw them across the air. The silky bikini cut landed on a bunch of wildflowers, swaying in the summer breeze. Mindie chided him with the obvious. “I’m naked, but, you’re still fully clothed.”

“I’ll fix that my dear.” He stood up, tugging his shirt over his head. His abdominal muscles tightened and flexed, trickling small beads of sexy sweat across his skin. “Damn, George, you are gorgeous!”

Smiling, George unbuttoned his pants, sliding them down his equally muscled legs. Standing only in his boxers, his rock hard cock pressed against the front seams, the fabric tented accordingly to accommodate his erection. Unmoving at perfect attention, each of his muscles flexed throughout his body, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. He finally pushed his boxers out of the way, making him as naked as she. Mindie slightly spread her legs, clearly encouraging him to return to the blanket. Kneeling, he bent down and kissed the spot just above her saturated pussy. He expertly guided his tongue along her velvety feminine skin until he found her clit. He explored a few maneuvers until he found the one that made her squirm away from his mouth. Nothing worked as well as the gentle way he moved tongue and lips in unison, tasting her hot spot as he would eat frosting from a slice of cake, curving his lips around her clit. He slightly tugged on her delicate skin, sucking it into his mouth. Gently using his lips to bring in air to blow discreetly across her clit, he stopped to lick lightly at the same spot. George brought her down and re-aroused Mindie several times before he allowed her release. Mindie came with the force of hurricane winds. She arched her back off the blanket, moaning delightedly. George held her ass tightly, keeping his face firmly planted against her pulsing pussy. He kept rolling his tongue around the soft, yet swelling labia. At the peak of Mindie’s orgasm, George slid his middle finger deep inside her, changing Mindie’s moans to yells growing in volume. When her body finally settled from the first climax, George could wait no longer. He needed to feel his manhood inside her delicious vagina. He rolled over, admiring her naked body one more time before he took his place on top of her and slid himself in slowly, inch by inch, until he fully filled her. He arched his own back to force himself even further inside and Mindie bucked her hips toward him for even deeper penetration.

“Oh, George…George! I needed this, oh, how I needed you!” Mindie repeated his name as George pumped faster, then slowed to enjoy the moment, changing up tempo when he almost lost his resolve. Mindie’s female essence was almost too much to bear without releasing too quickly. George thought of random, dull images to sustain his erection, wanting to please her fully. The reprieve of benign considerations slowed his pace to ensure success.

Mindie yelled once again when the tip of George’s cock found the internal spot, his thickness rubbing against the elusive hot button not always found. From her reaction, the place seemed like raw nerve endings inside her tight box. She writhed underneath him as she came in rolling waves, clutching his back. Slippery nectar flowed against his pumping cock, merging with his pre-cum. George allowed himself release as her climax slowed and he moaned loudly in relief. His body jerked and shivered as he filled the condom inside Mindie. His hands gripped her shoulders. Her hair intermingled with his fingers, pulling deliciously with each shudder. Sweat poured from George’s body as his heart rate r
ocketed in the summer heat. “Mindie, my beautiful girl, you are so…perfect.”

  Chapter Ten

“Are you going back to the camp today?” Nixie asked an almost unnecessary question.

“Yes, he’s back from his business trip today. I thought it’d be nice to surprise him.”

“It’s been such a long five days.” Sarcasm shadowed Nixie’s joke.

“Hey, now, your guy is here in town. You see him every day.”

“I know, I know…it just seems we don’t spend time together anymore. If you aren’t busy with George, I’m on a date with Brent. What happened to our friendship?”

“I guess seeing each other at work doesn’t really count, huh?”

“I won’t complain about work, but, we’ve been so busy, no, work doesn’t count for girl time.”

“Let’s make a date, right now, we will choose a day on the calendar just for us. No boys allowed.”

  “I’d like that.”

“We need to regroup on occasion. We know work comes first, but, sometimes, when you’re wrapped up in your lovers’ arms, it’s tough to drag yourself to the job.”

  “I know the feeling.”

“Oh, you do now? We definitely need to talk.” Mindie giggled, assuming Nixie had crossed the final barrier to womanhood.

Nixie only grinned, turning back to the project of stocking.

The girls set their day within a week. Growing older, priorities changed, possibly damaging childhood or young adult ties. Friendship strained when one of the duo becomes romantically involved. In the lucky case for them, they both had companions taking their spare time. Hearts, minds, and emotions also add to the physical absence. Balance could be a tricky element to the blend.

After she finished her duties, Mindie arrived at Camp George before he made it home from the business trip. The least she could do was prepare a nice supper for his arrival. The whirlwind trip left him tired and ready for home, their phone conversation revealed his weary voice. She’d washed the bed linens and brought them out to make a fresh bed, a touch he was sure to appreciate. Situating the naked pillows into cases, she caught the faint scent of his masculine skin on the uncovered pillows. Breathing in deeply, memories of a few nights’ prior invaded her brain, wickedly turning her thoughts from domestic to primal. He’d propped her hips onto one of those pillows, giving him better oral access to her clitoris. Would he be too tired that night? Surely not.
