Jake laughed, then settled into a comfortable silence. The nippy fall breeze drove them back into the crowds and toward the stand where her three A’s stood, smiling and handing out treats to the masses.
This was great publicity for the shop!
“Olivia,” Jake said and grasped her forearm, “before we go back to your, umm, A’s, I have a question for you.”
“What is it?”
“Would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow night?”
Olivia’s cheeks turned pink. She hesitated, then glanced at nosy, old Alberta. “I—you know what? Sure. Why not?”
She smiled, and they walked back to the trays of chocolates and her three favorite ladies in the entire world.
All was right with her world again.
