Saving Rhys

I nodded, feeling a little ashamed I thought so little of him. Of us. That was one of my flaws but I was working on it. On myself.
“Tell you what,” Nolan said, sliding his arm over my shoulders. He gathered me close to his chest. His skin burned fever-hot, just like mine. “Once we return to town, the first thing we’ll do is go to a clinic.”
“Buying a pregnancy test from the pharmacy should do the trick,” I mumbled.
Nolan planted a warm kiss on my mouth. He rested his hand over my flat stomach. “We’ll do it the proper way. Rhys, everything’s going to be fine.”
“What if I’m too immature to be a father?” I whispered. “I know you’ll do great but me? Nolan, before I met you, I could barely take care of myself.”
“That was you months ago. You’ve changed, Rhys. You’re stronger than you think.”
Nolan’s confidence in me blew me away. He was right. I was only second-guessing myself. With Nolan standing right next to me, anything was possible. We were going to have a baby and we’d make fantastic parents.
“For the record,” Nolan said, smiling up at me. “I love you, too.”

One Year Later
Rhys
Nolan’s singing woke up me from my afternoon nap. Hold on a second. What? Nolan didn’t sing or so I thought. I groaned, stretched out on the bed, only to hear a familiar whine next to me. I opened my eyes, not surprised to find Tiny curled up next to me.
“Hey Tiny,” I said, scratching his belly.
He gave me a goofy grin, before closing his eyes again. It was tempting to go back to sleep. Ever since the twins were born, Nolan and I had been swamped.
I quit working at the cafe for a little while but Nolan was okay with me going back to work. I was relieved Nolan wasn’t the kind of Alpha who expected his Omega to do all the child-rearing. We took turns looking after Amy and Shauna.
I got up and padded into the living room. The moment Nolan and I saw this apartment, we knew it was perfect. It was big enough to raise the twins in and to have a dog or two. I found my Alpha standing by the windows, a twin in each arm.
Nolan was singing softly to them.
I blinked, still amazed how good he was with them. I approached them and hugged Nolan from behind. An awkward thing to do, given his size but I somehow managed.
“Good afternoon. Did you manage to get any sleep at all?” He asked.
“I did. I had a good dream.”
Nolan turned to face me. I reached for Amy, which he handed over. Our girls were identical twins. They had my dark brown hair and Nolan’s blue eyes. Amy was an Alpha while Shauna was an Omega. I began to gently rock Amy in my arms. I couldn’t believe an entire year had passed since I arrived on Nolan’s doorstep like a drowned rat.
Right after our camping trip, we made an appointment with the clinic in town. After we learned we were having twins, Nolan decided he wanted to baby proof our entire apartment.
We brushed up on our reading and went to baby classes together. Omega pregnancies only lasted three months so we had to rush everything. By the time I gave birth, we were more than ready to welcome the twins into our home.
“What did you dream about?” He asked.
“This,” I said. “My current reality. It’s hard to believe we’re parents.”
Nolan leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. “Believe it, baby.”
I looked at our babies. Shauna had fallen asleep. Amy meanwhile, was sucking on her thumb and was staring at me. In moments, her eyelids began to droop. She was asleep. We lowered them in the cots in the living room.
Nolan and I settled on the couch. I rested my head against the shoulder. Nolan reached out, stroking my hair. It was just another lazy Sunday afternoon. I loved quiet moments like this with my mate the most.
The travel bug hadn’t completely disappeared. Nolan and I decided that once the girls were a little older, we’d go camping again as a family. It was something to look forward to. For now, I wanted to enjoy this period in our lives to the fullest.
We soon heard a bark from our bedroom. Tiny spotted us. He didn’t start barking. He probably sensed the twins were sleeping. Tiny was incredibly patient and careful of them. He was a great dog. Tiny nudged his way between Nolan and my feet.
Nolan expelled a sigh. “This dog goes everywhere with you.”
“Do I detect a note of jealousy?” I teased.
“Of course.” Nolan sounded grumpy.
“Which reminds me, it’s been ages since you fucked me senseless,” I said, running my fingers down his chest.
Nolan flashed me a wolfish smile. “Oh? If I remembered correctly, I took you in the shower last night.”
I pouted. “That was last night. This is today.”
Nolan pulled me to my feet. Tiny looked at us lazily, then dropped his head to his paws again. There were baby monitors anywhere and Tiny was a good guard dog. If the babies woke up, we’d know.
Nolan began pulling me towards our bedroom. I must’ve moved too slow because he placed his hands on my waist. I gasped when he hefted me easily in his arms like I didn’t weigh a thing.
I slanted my lips over his. Nolan spirited me to our bed. It struck me I just woke up here only minutes ago. Oh well. Not much of a loss. My Alpha used his foot to kick the door behind me. Nolan lowered me to the bed, all the while I was giggling.
He eyed me, licking his lips. Even though we were mated for almost a year and had kids together, part of me always marveled at how much he wanted me still.
My Alpha loved me unconditionally.
“There’s one problem,” he said.
“What’s that?” I asked, raising my eyebrow.
“You have too many clothes on.”
I laughed. “You and I both.”
We began hastily peeling off our clothes. Nolan slipped right next to me in bed. The moment he touched me, I was a goner.
Nolan lifted my leg. He pushed two fingers inside me. I was always wet and primed for him. In one smooth push, he entered me. I groaned, willing my inner ass muscles to clamp hard around his dick.
“At this rate, you’re going to get me pregnant again,” I whispered.
I moaned as he started rutting me. I found myself moving with him, anticipating his thrusts. Nolan felt so good, so perfect inside me.
“I think we can handle one or two more kids,” he murmured. It wasn’t long before we both orgasmed. One last push and Nolan spilled his seed inside me.
“Love you, baby,” I whispered after. Languidness filled my entire body. Nolan didn’t pull his softening cock out of me, not right away.
“Love you back,” he said, pulling me into his arms.
I once told Nolan that he saved me. If it weren’t for him, I’d still be out on the streets, homeless, and hungry. Nolan corrected me and said I was wrong.
We saved each other.
Maybe he was right.
